No need to send the data thanks since it should be fixed in the next version, so give that a try and let us know how you get on.

I have 2.24 now , not sure which version this fix is implemented. Im fllying an MD11 across the Atlantic and the violent shakes the aircraft gets everytime knocks off my speed to the point that it keeps decreasing, until i reset it for the autopilot.

Version 2.25 has the fix. You can 'watch' our Announcements topic on the Flight1 forum for details of new versions.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I just did an MD11 flight across the pond heading west, and two updates wrecked my aircraft. Shook violently.

with VAFS running it said my excessive G forces ruined my cargo. The next update, it shook violently again and overstressed the aircraft and ending the flight.

Im looking for the weather log, to help you out. Which file do you need?

Oh and details for flight status. Level at FL300 N/A track.

I used P3D this time to see if there was any difference. Obviously not.

Ok, we will lower the wind targets, no need to send the data file for now thanks.

Just one question, did you stop and restart OpusFSX at all during the flight?

Regards

Cheryl

Maybe its the aircrafts fault :) j/k have you tried it with the 737?

I believe it is more noticeable with certain aircraft.

OpusFSX Beta Version 2.27.0 is now available for download on our website. Lets hope this fixes the problem for those still seeing wind shifts.

If your system is still plagued with wind shifts at higher altitudes then first try setting the Transition altitude to 0 feet and adopting global surface winds. I would like to stress this is a known FSX bug and the only complete cure is to adopt global (static) weather. You could also look to minimising the overhead on FSX by reducing the number of active addons making demands through the SimConnect interface.

Can't wait to try that. 2h for landing

I have been getting an error since 2.26... "The weather theme could not be loaded. Make sure the file exists bla bla bla and try again". Never had this before and i am flying a route i've flow a lot of times.

The wind shifts are still happening on 2.27.

EDIT: Come to think of it, i think i am suffering from sudden pressure changes and not wind shifts. I'm saying this because although the wind intensity does change, the aircraft changes altitude rapidly and then recovers.

No. Just may have done a load dynamic weather before taking off.

Yes that makes alot of sense. Usually drops a few hundred feet after the "shock wave" hits and autopilot brings it back to set altitude. But everytime it hits it also knocks off my speed and it decreases until i reset it for the planned speed.

We smooth the pressure only allowing a one millibar change for every 16km but the lift is proportional to the square of the air velocity times the air density so the drop in height is more likely to be caused by a lowering of the airspeed over the wing. Nice thought though but it would take a considerably greater pressure change to cause such a variation in lift. Of course this does not rule out an FSX bug which doesn't keep track of the changing air pressure, and hence after a weather update registers a greater change in the air pressure when calculating the lift. This wouldn't really explain though why the wind direction would shift momentarily up to 180 degrees so my money is on a plain and simple FSX bug which is failing to calculate the changing wind direction correctly.

It sounds like your weather files are corrupted or write protected. Another posibility is that you have saved a flight using a weather theme that no longer exists, so FSX is automatically trying to load the theme when you fly. v2.26 removed the themes automatically so try loading a clear skies theme and save that for your flight.

Very strange. I don't know why there are 3 ways to enable/disable trackIR within the program. It gets confusing.

I got it working now with 'Disable TrackIR' unchecked in the Camera Control (theres also a Toggle TrackIR on/Off option there??)

And had to disable and then enable track IR again in the 'Configure' menu.

On the few systems still having wind shift problems an extreme method to prevent the problem is to disable weather updates (e.g. set the update time to 600 minutes) and to force a weather update on decent (using the OpusFSX addon menu) say at 12,000 feet so that the weather is correct for landing.

We have released version 2.28.0 Beta.

New wind stabilisation and smoothing options have been added to the Weather dialog along with 'Set Dynamic Weather Defaults' and 'Set Wind Stabilisation and Smoothing Defaults' buttons to assist configuration changes and try to keep things simple for those who do not like tweaking.

The new Max Wind Change option allows users to fine tune the surface wind recovery condition by specifying the maximum allowed wind direction change before recovery is allowed.

The new Relax Wind Smoothing option has been provided for users who mainly fly low level, typically VFR below 20,000 feet. When relaxed, the maximum permitted wind speed and direction change in every 32km (20 miles) can also be specified (default 15 knots and 15 degrees change).
there are 3 ways to enable/disable trackIR within the program
The TrackIR option in the Configuration dialog turns it on or off.

The Disable TrackIR option in the camera view configuration lets you disable TIR for that particular view. The Toggle TrackIR On/Off button has been provided to enable or disable the TrackIR device just whilst editing the view.

It is all described in the manuals.
