Hi Dave

That will be it then ...

The Ignore Reduced Visibility > 6000 m instructs the LWE to ignore all reported reduced surface visibilities in the METAR statements that have indicated (reported) a visibility > 6000 metres (equivalent to misty conditions).

So unless it is very misty or foggy at the site, the LWE will ignore the reported reduced vis and assign whatever Max Surface Visibility you have specified in the dialog. In your case I can see you had it set to 80km (50 miles).

This option was included because many simmers do not like flying in poor visibility, so it allows them to override what the METARs say. The 6000 metre limit is adjustable. So if you set the limit to 0 then the LWE would ignore all visibilities reported in the METARs and always use your Max Surface Visibility setting for your preferred surface vis.

In all cases the visibility is intelligently layered and increased at higher altitudes taking such things as cloud bases, assumed inversion layers etc. into account.

Regards

Stephen

For RW conditions this option should not be checked and you should set your Max Surface Vis to somewhere between 32km and 80km depending on your expected local conditions. Remember the vis will improve as you climb being intelligently layered up to a maximum 128km (80 miles).

So will we see these sort of vertical air movement effects in this or a future version of Opus?

Or what about AS2012's delayed weather?

Yes, we already have plans to introduce bly sky turbulance amoungst other things but all our turbulant effects are intelligently controlled by the LWE which of course knows the exact met conditions around your aircraft.

We have no intention of using our own weather servers but several users are already investigating using historic weather. Please also see our Flight1 Saving Dynamic Weather - Historic Weather themes topic.

ahh, i see...so because the vis in the earlier metar reported 4nm vis (which is just slightly above the 6,000m mark) it got ignored. But, if the vis in the metar reported lets say 3nm or less then opus would NOT have ignored it?

Ok...so if I want things to look according to the reports then it sounds like I just need to have the ignore box unchecked, correct?

wow, that was a long way to go for such a simple problem! LOL

thanks for hangin in there with me, Stephen...much appreciated!

Many thanks Stephen. Not being able to select the morning's or afternoon's weather isn't a show stopper for me and knowing that turbulance "amongst other things" is coming I think you've just sold another copy of OpusFSX.

Great following this thread - I reckon I've learned a lot before I've even bought the product.

Ok I have two questions. When on the main FSX screen on the weather tab, what do I click. I have always used real weather udated every 15 minutes or do I need to use user defined? Also with the weather engine working, the sky seems to be a little too blue for comfort. Yet from others users screenshots they look the same as mine. Maybe it has something to do with my Rex settings?? Just wondering if its something with the lwe or rex settings or its just how it is. Thanks for the help.

no actually...due to some information that has just been revealed to me on their flight1 forum Im now pretty upset and will likely take a pass on this particular product. I may be misunderstanding something (and I certainly hope I am dead wrong) but it appears that EZdok users must STOP using their ezdok software if they want to purchase and use Opus (even if you dont want to use Opus cameras you're ezdok cameras will not function properly once Opus is installed).

I was reading about this on the Opus forums at Flight1 and what i read made me feel like some sort of weird monopoly ploy was the intent by Opus (it almost sounded like Opus has some sort of vendetta with Ezdok the way he spoke about them). Im not saying this is true of course, im only saying this is the impression I got.

it almost seems to be like Opus isn't simply trying to compete with Ezdok but actually put them out of business. In this hobby I feel thats a bad thing...we need competition but not a friggen camera and weather monopoly, lol.

Anyway...I dont wish to be forced to give up my old camera software right now...all that interests me about Opus was it's weather and thats it...if I cant use it for that alone then theres no point, for me.

If Opus has changed their stance on this or will consider doing so then I will of course be glad to support another vendor and make the purchase!

There is no problem using Opus for just the weather if you want.

Untick the live camera and trackir options and away you go.

Bryan.

Hello Dave,

Did you already tried to leave the "Enable Live Camera Control" unchecked?

P.S.:

I just saw a simular reply passing by from Bryan; so this double

Joop H.

yes but leaving those options unchecked seems to make no difference because Opus automatically adds camera definitions to all your aircraft.cfg files and uses the same hotkeyselect=4 that Ezdok needs to use, therefore you will have issues using and creating certain ezdok cameras once opus is installed...it may not effect your vc cameras but it will effect the others from what I understand.

...and Opus will keep writing this camera code into your aircraft cfg's everytime you start opus...whether you want it to or not...so just deleting the opus cfg codes from your aircraft cfg's wont work.

This can easily be changed by the author but he doesnt want to from the way he sounds. For instance he could easily make a checkbox for Ezdok users so Opus stops writing to your aircraft cfg's.
