August 7, 201213 yr Gmap is `meh' in my book. August 7, 201213 yr Ah, ok. The patch notes in the Android Market referenced something about fixing an error caused by loading flight plans generated in certain 3rd party applications. It seems that the app can load flight plans, just not display them properly. It may just currently be showing the waypoint markers but not the course line itself, or something like that.
August 7, 201213 yr Gmap is `meh' in my book. The server software isn't the most reliable thing ever and I found myself constantly having to close it and restart it to accept a connection again after disconnecting from it. Ok... I added the default GPS500 as a popup to the Legacy and it works perfectly fine. Funny thing though: I made a flightplan in Plan-G following valleys and loaded it in FSX but when I was flying the Terrain function of the GNS530 showed me an even better path through the valleys...! Still, it's nice being able to quickly glance at the created plan in the popup whenever I am unsure. Advantage of the GPS500 over for instance GMap or Plan-G is that you don't have to run FSX in windowed mode and/or you don't have to alt-tab out of FSX: I rather have the free default GPS! GMap for Android looks like fun because then I can forget about popups altogether, but if the connection is a constant problem... I might as well stick with what I've got.
August 7, 201213 yr Is the RXP gauge happy with the extra GPS? I've never tried that, but I could think of problems when it comes to actually switching to NAV and let the GPS steer the AP. Which GPS? When you hover your mouse over the RXP data card slot, what does the tooltip say? 'Active GPS RXP' or something? Just to make sure that twin GPS setup doesn't mix up the ability to fly the RXP approaches.

So much so I just stopped using the software all together and put together a network PC from extra PC hardware I had and run Plan-G on it along with weather, and Air Hauler. The monitor sits right next to my flight sim monitor. Little work but much better than GMap.. Provided you can't walk to the kitchen and watch your flight but. :) Anyway... At this point now I can't connect and I would have to go out of full screen, close the server, restart it and return to full screen.. Connect w/ my tablet again etc.. Any phone or tablet this will happen to you with because of the very habit how tablets are used. You will be going out of GMap to do other things on the tab and return to G-Map etc.. Upon return to G-Map you have to connect again and that's where you have a 50-50 chance of the server flaking out. August 8, 201213 yr Is the RXP gauge happy with the extra GPS? I've never tried that, but I could think of problems when it comes to actually switching to NAV and let the GPS steer the AP. Which GPS? When you hover your mouse over the RXP data card slot, what does the tooltip say? 'Active GPS RXP' or something? Just to make sure that twin GPS setup doesn't mix up the ability to fly the RXP approaches. I tested it thoroughly and had no problems at all. Whatever I did in the default GPS500 popup didn't make any difference at all to what I told the GNS530 and the AP to do. Not even in the middle of an LPV landing, I changed all possible settings in the GPS500 popup: entered a new Direct-to, pressed all possible buttons and I even loaded a new flightplan in FSX (without having me replaced to a new spot obviously ) and even THAT didn't cause any problems: the plan did show up in the GPS500 but it had no influence on the GNS530 and the AP. I landed safely with a perfect LPV approach as if that GPS500 popup didn't exist at ALL. So this works perfectly fine and for me this is the cheapest AND best solution! No need for other addons running in the background or having to run FSX in a window or using a laptop or Android (thanks for the info about GMap, stycks!!!) or whatever. I just need it as a backup if I forget where I plotted my low and (not too) slow flight.
August 8, 201213 yr I may still get Android for GMap simply as a chart viewer. I do have a good collection of paper US charts, but ORBX AU and NZ are tempting me, and I'm having trouble finding reasonably priced charts for those areas. GMap chart-data on my tablet seems a workable solution, even if not connected as a GPS display.
August 8, 201213 yr So this works perfectly fine and for me this is the cheapest AND best solution! Nice solution indeed. Thinking outside the box at its best. Thanks for the report.

Yes, you can switch between which GPS you are using..And by the way..if you create your plan by hand in the GNS, and switch to the default GPS with no plan loaded, it will load the GNS created one!! (new in RXP 1.6.1) and, if you right-click the flight plan button in the GNS, it will save the currently loaded GNS plan as a .PLN in your fsx docs folder too! As far as automatically transferring the GNS flightplan to FSX (and the default GPS) - that only works if you have LinkGPS=On set in the rxpgns.ini file for the airplane. Bert
August 9, 201213 yr We need more of those tips. I didn't know some of them. Thanks guys! I've obviously missed that read. if you right-click the flight plan button in the GNS, it will save the currently loaded GNS plan as a .PLN in your fsx docs folder too! Now we also need it the other way around and the thing is perfect.
August 9, 201213 yr Now we also need it the other way around and the thing is perfect. It's a limitation of the Garmin trainer, not RXP coding or FSX..I think you might wait a while, CoolIP..now if somebody were to write a way of getting the trainer to be able to "read" .PLN files....I think RXP have said this will not be them...I could be wrong... August 9, 201213 yr Well, while the RXP experts are here . . . how does one turn off the voice announcements for the RXP Terrain warnings? It interferes with touch and goes and is a distraction. I would like to turn it off completely. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
August 9, 201213 yr how does one turn off the voice announcements for the RXP Terrain warnings? In the RXPGNS.ini, there's a line Taws=On. Set it to off and the unit is silent but will still show the warning text message and the terrain view. You can also do this in the RXP config tool of course. Your buzz word is TAWS (terrain awareness and warning system). If you want to get rid of the yellow text message (Terrain Advisory, Terrain ahead, Too low - Terrain), go to the terrain page, press menu and chose 'inhibit terrain'. The terrain view is still there, but the warning is suppressed. You will also see a notifier 'TER INHB' stating that the terrain warning feature is inhibited. It's a limitation of the Garmin trainer, not RXP coding or FSX. Well, the Garmin trainer already interacts with a FS9, FSX or XP gauge. It reads the data on e.g. plane position and winds coming from the sim, it reacts to key presses and it stores it's custom stuff in separate mem files. With exporting to pln files, it's obvious that the syntax is already known, so why not import pln files and store them in the mem format the RXP uses? Same as you store and read the flight plans from within the RXP unit. The door only opens to one side? Not in my book. See how the RXP to default GPS flight plan streaming feature evolved. A user, Bert, tried some xml tricks to allow for it on the Carenado glass planes. This worked and already showed lines to the next waypoint. Later, RXP itself took up the pace and now that extra dll (with version 1.6) allows for it to fully work on all planes. So what was 'a limitation' or fixed state before, got ruled out by efforts. Mainly because one actually tried. Stating this because I thought it was impossible until Bert came up with a solution.
