The End of Flight?

Featured Replies

This is really sad news. The developers and the game deserved a better chance. I just installed the free game 2 days ago, and now this. :-(

Problem I think is for hard core flight simmers (and real life pilots) Flight is just a toy. For "gamers" Flight is too slow and not appealing. Perhaps if it had a fighter jet or something it may have appealed to a slightly larger market, but still... a niche market.

So I guess there will be no more daily aerocaches? Good news I hope is the package will go on sale.

I really believe in offering the game for free and making money from the ingame micro transactions. But I do feel MS priced it's product to steep.

Best of luck for the developers.

If true, will you shut the forum?

There are plenty of forums here for products that have gone the way of the dinasaur. Direct answer? No. Not as long as there are members here who use it and continue to share with their fellow enthusiasts.

Blimey. This is a bitter pill to swallow so soon after waking up!

Shocked, but not at all surprised.

Did we get played? You bet we did...

FSX/Air Hauler, I'm sorry I forsook you for the girl with the better makeup and the '69 E-Type...will you take me back?

Now will somebody do a fix-up of the SDK and we can all resume normal service.

RIP MS FLIGHT. You were an odd bird, to be sure, but a welcome, if unfinished, addition to my addiction...

God, now I only have the Olympics to look forward to..

I wouldn't call it a rumour anymore now that Kotaku has confirmed that Microsoft replied directly to them and confirmed it.

Unless something has come out of Redmond in the last couple of ours (it's nearly 1 a.m. local time there), that "quote" remains unattributed and as far as I am concerned, worthless as a "fact". Unless they provide attribution, it could be made up for all I know. If they attribute it, or we hear directly from the team or other sources that substantiate it, this is still just rumor (although I will admit that the probability of it being true is very high in my mind at the moment).

Although I never liked how "Flight" was implemented,I can certainly empathize with those who did.

This is a "slap in the face", not only for the "Flight" fans, but also for the genaral desktop simulation community as a whole.

Sigh....

What a shame. It sure had some potential, and i am really sad they didn't leave us with a nice 2 prop plane to fly with. I guess it's back to FSX now.

Such a shame, had high hopes for this. Lets just hope they open it up to 3rd party on the way out of the door, if so it could be the best thing to happen to flight but I fear its now grounded. I hope you have learn t some lessons from this Microsoft, ahh hell who am I kidding you made a few $$$$ out of it and probably dont care

What's bugging me .... is that they released the Deluxe Carbon, which most of us pay for it....

And the next day, they are killing the project (if rumors are confirmed).

They just try to get most of the ca$h from us and then run away.

A shame...

FSX all the way!

Since the beta I might add.

What a shame, another good idea lost to mismanagement and … misdirection.

This job listing is still up though

Any takers? At least an AVSIM member applicant would have the correct loyalties in respect of the actual content of the game..

i suspect that ad will quietly disappear in the same way the press releases regarding timescales did...

FSX is more healthy and vigorous than it's ever been and continues to grow!

I understand what you mean, but I disagree. FSX is no longer being developed, and is in dire need of a final patch to support modern hardware. I am glad that there are still third party developers that make a living out of FSX, but the flightsim community probably needed more than Flight was a new Service Pack for FSX that include the advances and optimisations made for Flight.

Flight would probably have been more succesful as a F2P version of Combat Flight Simulator, but that is all water under the bridge now.

As much as I love FSX, I have grown to love X-Plane as well over the years, and find myself spending more time with the latter, in conjunction with DCS, the Thirdwire stuff, Rise of Flight etc. There are some great titles in the works, and although the general aviation market may be limited at present, flight simming as a whole is doing much better than a year or two ago IMO.

The whole project was so miss-managed and lacked direction. Planes without VC as DLC stalled this project. The lessons here are clear, make a hardcore sim for hardcore simmer or a softcore game, dont try and fit in the middle or you will fail. If you look at us all being excited that they are finally releasing a plane with a VC like it was something special and not standard. If they had opened it up to 3rd party then there might have been a future for flight, now its out of fuel and sadly going down

Hope the devs find work soon

Dated a few days ago...

The company I used to work for was actively interviewing and hiring people two weeks before they announced they sold the entire region to the competitor effective in 3 weeks. It's always business as usual until the internal gossip mill gets out of control and corporate is forced to make the rumors official and public. Only a select few ever know these things are coming well ahead of time and the ones getting the axe and the public are always the last to know.
