The End of Flight?

Featured Replies

What's bugging me .... is that they released the Deluxe Carbon, which most of us pay for it....

And the next day, they are killing the project (if rumors are confirmed).

They just try to get most of the ca$h from us and then run away.

A shame...

Yes I totally agree with you, but on the other hand I just cannot believe a company like Microsoft could do this so I hope that the rumors are not true.

Really?! I would not be surprised if Microsoft burn puppy dogs to power there studios

Exactly.. I'm surprised Microsoft didn't announced and release MS Flight SP1 with DX11 Preview before shutting it down. :P

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

Roll on P3D v2 and XP!

Until then, theres still thousands of FSX sceneries and aircraft to explore, just no DX9 cockpit shadows.

If you are feeling down and run FSX, try out the excellent DX10 fixes that have become the talk of the town in the FSX forum. It has breathed new life into old faithful while I use P3D v1.x eagerly anticipating v2.

I only got this thing 2 weeks ago. The first time I've tried a flight sim since I had a jet-fighter thing on my Atari ST around 25 years ago.

Still got a great many hours before I exhaust the delights of Alaska, but it is still disappointing. Maybe I should check out FSX.

Amazon obviously keep a close eye on these things, I got an email from them yesterday, timed at 3.30 am, suggesting that I buy FSX:Deluxe Edition and Traffic X.

This is sad! Feel kinda bad that I didn't buy any DLC to support it, but on the other hand they didn't really offer any DLC that I wanted. I hope som developer will eventually make a new "true" flightsim. Perhaps some russian gamestudio?

It would be sensible to wait for a definitive statement from Microsoft, but the following statement is widely reported

Microsoft Studios has decided to end development on Microsoft Flight and Project Columbia. As a result of this action, some positions within the development teams have been eliminated. Microsoft human resources is working with the affected individuals to find new roles within the company.

It was confirmed by Microsoft, linkie: http://www.eurogamer...icrosoft-flight

A sad day indeed. And surprising... they didn't even give it a year dammit. It's crazy how short sighted that is. Should at least have let it run for a year.

I agree they should have given it more time! My guess in an earlier post was that they would at least let it run for a year to see how it performed with more interesting scenery-areas and aircraft... when you trickle release content, you can't expect the 'big boom' effect of the free launch to last forever. A second advertisment and discount campaign when more content would be available would have been needed for instance near x-mas. Only when content equal to a boxed version had been in place would MS Flight had the chance to be judged fairly by the communities...

... that's why I feel sorry for the dev team, they did an excellent job with the flight dynamics, the best in-house GA planes released from Microsoft (compared to FSX) and graphics that it was too bad we didn't get to see for the rest of the world. I hope they will find new assignements quickly.

It was an obvious result. They wanted a game that had success outside of the general sim community, what did they get? Same people that used fsx, and avsim having more activity than the steam forums just shows how they failed to achive that.

I don't think MS got the numbers they wanted to make it a financially viable product. Unfortunately, MS Flight suffered from the following:

From Flight Simulator enthusiasts - "Where are the cockpits?"

From Gamers - "Where are the guns?"

Are they gone to kill it, like Train simulation or sell it, I hope the second one.

You made the point.

or sell it

They already sold the FSX code. And is Flight that different? Besides, Flight is missing more than half the stuff FSX has. I would wonder who would be stupid enough to buy it, while P3D is already way more advanced, with V2 waiting to be released...

Tom, you have to admit it's been somewhat skewed towards "the good" rather than "the bad". I would never critique AVSIM and it's mission and goals, but please, pretty please, admit that the handling of Flight has been a little protective rather than objective.

toevd,

This morning I have less patience that Tom did, so you are banned from writing in this topic. Bye...

Kind regards,

They already sold the FSX code.

Microsoft licenced ESP code. It retained the FSX code.

I agree that no one would wish to licence Flight - given its apparent commercial failure..
