The End of Flight?

Featured Replies

This is a shame, can't say I didn't see it coming though, I always suspected all the content dlc was produced before release including the vc cub. I just bought the damn thing too. Hope they don't cut us off too soon so I can at least enjoy it for a few weeks.

Regards;

I thought it seemed very clear that nothing but "dead-ness" was coming to the FLIGHT franchise...

I'm still chuckling :)

Does this mean we can finally say what we think of this abortion without getting banned from avsim?

No?

I didn't think so....

There are many passionate Flight users and I feel for them. But, got to admit, that there was funny!

I don't go along with that. I was a Microsoft beta tester for three versions of Flight Simulator. Back in the good old days of developing the product, the staff was really into providing a rather realistic product. And they certainly had the support of Microsoft. And Microsoft made it possible to hire more people, and purchase rights to data-bases, than most competitors.

I'm sure the actual development staff were very good at what they did and wanted to make fantastic products. What I'm getting at is the short and rushed development cycles they used. Two years was wayyyy too little time and it usually only resulted in heaping bad code on bad code instead of optimizing what they already had and building on it. If the beancounters at MS had allowed some more dedication to quality things may have turned out better for them.

Instead they released FSX which caused thousands to leave the FS niche so, in a sense, they've destroyed their own market and have no one to blame but themselves.

We've requested direct confirmation from MS Aces.

If true, will you shut the forum?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Perhaps they'll open up the source code for free developement. Which I kinda thought all along if it ceased to produce, I would rather dought it though.

Well, I didn't see this coming. I'm very dissapointed... I really liked Flight...

Hmmm... where's my HD with all my FSX addons on it...?

You have always been free to state your opinion about Flight or any other sim related topic. What you have not been free to do is continue to harp, repeat ad nauseam, and provoke. If you wish to start doing any of those, then you will definitely cross "that" line. And sarcastic remarks about AVSIM aren't going to earn you any commendations either. If you think so lowly of us, then we can certainly ensure that you don't have to suffer being here.

Wow, if true, sucks for the developers, i wish them the best of luck in their future roles. Guess josh howard can now realise the direction he wanted to take Flight in was wrong.

I really wanted it to succeed, it had quite a bit of potential, bummer..

It seems that the entire Vancouver gaming industry is on the downfall. Many studios have shut down. This might have also contributed to the projects being cancelled You can read about it here:

http://www.theprovince.com/news/Quest+revive+video+gaming+industry+turns+political/6971334/story.html

"To be fair, the video-game industry is in a global slump, a result of the worldwide economic uncertainty.

And Vancouver's older, established gaming studios appear to be victims of the sudden rise of inexpensive, downloadable games such as Angry Birds for mobile phones and other wireless devices."

It also points out little government support in the ongoing industry transition and that game developers are moving to Toronto due to higher tax credits for video-game studios.

Started off with a real upper this morning with the upgraded Cub and ended up with this bad new tonight. FLIGHT got me back into flight simming again and I am very disappointed in Microsoft. They did not give this sim a chance. Now I see why they will not be at Airventure this year. So now I have invested in new rudder pedals and trackeir5. Well, still have Hawaii and Alaska to play with. What a waste.

Mr. Howard may have been gone for quite a while, considering they were advertising for a project manager a while back.

Tom, you have to admit it's been somewhat skewed towards "the good" rather than "the bad". I would never critique AVSIM and it's mission and goals, but please, pretty please, admit that the handling of Flight has been a little protective rather than objective.

I was holding out that we'd one day get the ability to develop for it. So wanted the first person view and the new shadows in a sim I could add to. Wonder if it would be feasible to open up Alaska and the community could develop it further, LOL.
