777 2D Cockpit?

Featured Replies

That's the one major thing that stops me using FS9, having to cycle past the 2d cockpit to use the 3d one.

I remember there was an uproar when CS released the 757 and there was no 2d cockpit - people have still not gotten used to

the 3d one,

It's time to move on and accept this.

There's merit to both sides of the coin. About all we can do is wait to see what they pull out of their hat. They've been known to surprise.

but I'd pay $100 moe

Thank you for the $100

I'm really over my long-winded posts arguing for the side that's already "won" out anyway, so I'll keep it short.

With a business, the market decides what happens. All of you who are holding onto the 2D for dear life are eventually going to be left in the dust in need of converting eventually. Despite all of your seldom logical arguments, it's just not what the market sees.

...but hey, where there's a hole in the market, there's an opportunity. If you all really think the 2D continues to be a viable option, then pursue it. Start your own development group that develops planes with 2D cockpits only, because they're clearly car superior and more realistic.

I wish you luck in that venture.

...Not everyone has the money to upgrade their PC, OK?

No, it is not OK. That was the argument against FSX for 5 years and put an end to the two year refresh cycle and was probably the single most significant factor in Microsoft abanding the franchise. It does not hold water anymore. An upgrade to a 4GHz+ system is available for under £350 (for example: http://www.overclock...rodid=BU-080-OE ). Any system from the last three years can run NGX in VC, so if you budget £350 every three years, that is less then £10 a month. If you can't afford £10 a month on hardware, then you have to ask if a computer based hobby is really a good match for your lifestyle.

Yeah, that argument is trash. My hobby is flying. When I made $22,000 a year I didn't have a lot of room in the budget to go flying, so I didn't fly very much and had to save up.

Who decided computing/simming was an equal opportunity hobby?

Kyle Rodgers

Paul, some people just don't have the money or the budget to upgrade computer gear.

Doesn't matter how economical you stretch it out or how much you plan it.

I would also guess that a lot of people don't know how to build their own pc, so they have to rely on pre-made systems from electronic retailers, which cost more then 350 no matter what the currency.

Everyone is so angry. I have yet to understand why people argue over who has the correct personal preference. If you people put in 1% of this energy into real life, you could get your private by tomorrow.

Some people don't have the money to go get flying lessons, too. Are the flight schools not offering flight lessons anymore because people can't pay? Nope. Sorry Charlie.

While they often offer a few planes at different rates, most aren't going to take a hit simply because "some people can't afford it." You'll also note, the FAA isn't sitting down and saying "oh hey, we'll hold on to NDBs and LORAN because some people still only have those for navigation in their planes. Panel mount GPS is really expensive, and people can't always afford it, so we might as well stop progress..."

The economic argument is absurd.

I can't afford a Ferrari, so I don't buy one. You can't afford the processor to run a game, you don't play it. Again, why is it that people think this needs to be equal opportunity?

Kyle Rodgers

I hope this thread dies soon!

Argue whatever you like, it boils down to this in my mind...

There are a considerable number of PMDG customers who would like a 2D panel option for the 777. As PMDG has decided not to provide a 2D option, then people are welcome to vote with their wallets. It's not about what's 'better' or 'more realistic', it's about giving people options (or not) from a service and customer satisfaction point of view.

This does not hold much water with me either. These days putting together your own pc is easier than putting together lego. It really only took an evening of research to put my first system together several years ago. Things are even easier now.

Even worse. Why did I waste so much effort? Happens every time...
