August 17, 201213 yr Well, at least I've found the Dyson fan he is talking about. What? A riddle? I still don't get it , but I think guenseli and domkle are able to see it. August 17, 201213 yr Reminds me of the CNN world maps surely adding something to every continent out there. ^_^
August 17, 201213 yr Danville Illinois approach is one included in a flight sim textbook? http://www.flightsimbooks.com/learning/chart207.php PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
August 17, 201213 yr I'll try ... Holland, home of the little boy with his finger in the dyke. Chicago, home of Hillary ... you make the connection. Both places have airports. Charleston, Illinois ... sister city of Charleston, West Virginia. Home of Chuck Yeager, legendary test pilot featured in the film "The Right Stuff". I have a freeware upgrade in FSX for Charleston. Davenport, Moline, Rock Island and Bettendorf are known as "THE QUAD CITIES".... I have a Quad Core processor that I use for FSX. DANville, Illinois ... DANtrix.net was where I was learning how to repaint FSX airplanes till it went off line. Terre Haute, Indiana ... home of Indiana State University and Larry Bird (basketball great). Airplanes in FSX are sometimes referred to as "Birds"... as in "let's get this bird on the ground". Kankakee, Mishawaka, Kokomo .... No one from Holland on a ventilator could possibly pronounce them properly. Dixon, Illinois ... birthplace of Ronald Reagan, the last great American President. FSX the last great Flight Simulator from Microsoft. Louisville, often confused as the capital of Kentucky. Microsoft Flight, often confused as a flight simulator. Piqua, Ohio ... the next NA small town by ORBX. Champagne, Illinois ... I lift my glass in a toast to anyone who gets this right. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
August 17, 201213 yr I really have no clue what the OP is talking about. Maybe that is the whole point.
August 17, 201213 yr My guess is that it has something to do with Meigs field out of Chicago. -Damien Damien Furtman Hovering Hellion
August 17, 201213 yr That airport, in reality, no longer exists. However, reality seems nonexistent here as well. John Wingold
August 17, 201213 yr Well I am from the Netherlands too, and think the charts is wrong. Paris lays in France, Warsaw in Poland, Delhi in India, Sidney in Australia. Funny yanks, but placing Paris in there doesnt make it Paris you know!. Then I see Champaign, strange to call you town like this, but they might love it very much then. Calling it that name may have name problems, as it is a reserved protected name. Some people all drive in a Pontiac, so they called their town to it. And Kettering amazes me, ketters is a Dutch word for Cathars, all burned at the stake in medeval times. Thats why you need a new fan, getting hot ? It must be a fan from Dixon, altough it should be Dixons.. What did I won ?
August 17, 201213 yr Author Boy, oh Boy, i expected atleast 2 or 3 partisans but now it seems very much like i am the one and only FS dinosaur around here... Champaign, Bloomington, Kankakee, Danville, Champaign. What i would call ' The Golden Triangle of Virtual Flight ' as this was the first ever route with which one could virtually learn how to fly and navigate. Names that have a special place in my heart and are very dear to me although i never went there for real ( i have never even visited the US for real.. ) As Dominique already said, what you're looking at with this map is the cradle of Flight Simulator. Without it no FSI, FSII, FSIII, FS4, FS5, FS95, FS98, FS2K, FS2K2, FS9, let alone FSX... All thanks to our legendary godfather Bruce Artwick and his SubLogic company based at Champaign. I started with FSII back in 1982 on a Commodore 64. I still have the books that came with it, and as the avid aviation hobbyist i already was i can't explain the tremendous joy i had to learn about the basics of GA flying and navigation 'hands on' which i knew nothing about before. As an example here are two pages from the FSII Handbook regarding VOR navigation : And here an example of the typical maps that used to come with older versions of FS. This is from an FSII updated version with many more airports to fly to but the base is still Champaign, Bloomington, Kankakee, Danville. : I followed a remarkable thread on the MSFlight forum. The OP started it because of the great joy he found in MSFlight giving him the opportunity to learn about VOR and NDB navigation. And he was not the only one... I learned it with MSFlight's great great great grandfather some 30 years ago. Something must've gone amiss during all these years.. What has not gone amiss, atleast not with me, are the names of the cities/airports that i could virtually visit for the very first time because FSII made it possible to get my virtual PPL. I'm sure i don't have to tell you that FSX plunged down from the virtual blue yonder just like that. It evolved right out of the map i posted in my OP. I was just curious to see if there was anybody else that shares the magic that the names of Champaign, Bloomington, Kankakee and Danville still have on me. So that's all clear now... Well, in a way, i feel for you guys. It's like you love and know all about todays pop music and i have to come in here to tell you about Elvis Presley... :P In ending, for me the magic has faded quite a bit. Not that surprising after 30 years, éh ?.... cheers, Jan Jan
