I find the American livery one of the ugliest in the aviation world, so unimaginative and ugly.. I am personally surprised with the love for it here! :P..

I love it as well. It's iconic you know what airline it is immediately. But the. Again I grew up with it kinda like the classic Southwest livery.

I hope they don't make it so bland like UA's new livery (yuck).

Or they could do what Eagle does and paint the plane white.

The Reno Air MD-80s were painted white with the red white and blue stripes. I never cared for the look. I don't know if it has to do with the size of the plane or the scale of the stripes or just my own personal perception but to me the Eagle planes look fine but the Reno planes always looked bad.

How about an "American Flag" paintsheme? Make the planes look like thes were wrapped in a matrace with stars on it. :LMAO:

I'd rather like to see something white with blue and red stripes maybe...

With kind regards, Bogdan Misko.

As far as US Airways goes I think the likelihood of that is increasing. US Airways is going to try to buy us in bankruptcy. They've been very clear about that. Our management has finally given in to the fact nobody in the industry supports the stand alone carrier business plan. Plus all the other airlines our management was hinting they were talking with about mergers have come out very publicly saying there have never been talks about mergers and they don't plan on entertaining any. Our guys have accepted that US Airways is the only real candidate left and are now trying to beat them to the punch so AMR management will retain control of the airline.

I agree. Good luck...

I hope American can buy US Airways, be great not to see them around anymore, they bought Piedmont and destroyed one of the best airlines ever. "Warm southern hospitality will be replaced with cool northern efficiency", anyone remember that quote ?,

USAirways will be doing the buying and they're still getting the mess cleaned up from the America West merger. Yikes. The American name will stay, the USAirways logo will go away.

I'll save my USAir jokes. That would be unbecoming of me to share them.

It would be considering a US Airways employee would be reading them! Just kidding Zach. After 33 years, I doubt there's a joke or comment you could make that I haven't heard. At this point, I don't care who's name is on the side of the airplane as long as the check cashes every two weeks. This will be my 4th merger so I'm pretty immune. I started with "Agony Airlines" in 1979.

I love the AA Livery and always have. When I was a kid I went on an AA B707 from KORD to KLAX and was so excited to go on the big shiney airplane...

American is the only major U.S. airline that leaves the majority of its aircraft surfaces unpainted. This was because C. R. Smith hated painted aircraft, and refused to use any liveries that involved painting the entire plane. Robert "Bob" Crandall later justified the distinctive natural metal finish by noting that less paint reduced the aircraft's weight, thus saving on fuel costs.

The reason why AA didn't paint aircraft was to save money on Paint, Weight and Fuel costs. Very good idea at that time. However new aircraft are made out of Composites so in order to acheive that traditional look they will have to start spending a lot of money on heavymetalic paints or chrome, increasing weights and fuel costs, this would go against every tradition of AA in trying to acheive the same look.

No surprise to me they will change it and most likely it will be white aircraft with AA logo and stripes. They are in financial trouble at the moment and I am sure they will be making low cost changes. People won't like this.

They should keep the current aircraft as is and just make these changes to the new Composite orders.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

It sure is an iconic look, but so was Pan Am's. And sometimes as much as we may hate it, these airlines need to refresh themselves, especially for overseas customers.

We are going through it now with Air New Zealand - having boasted beautiful fresh teal shades and now progressively moving towards the "dark side".

I didn't know that, Mike! And 33 years? That's wonderful for you. I hear mixed feelings about the airline, but then again the same is true for every one except LUV, FDX, and UPS.

This industry has been a train wreck ever since deregulation. Very soon, there will be just 3 major domestic carriers and they will slowly but surely begin to squeeze the other guys. Everyone likes to talk about service but it really comes down to frequency of flights and lowest fare. There's is very little brand loyalty anymore. I have a little more than 3 years to go before I retire. It can't come soon enough.
