I'm no longer even looking back at DX9; DX10 adds a feature set which pushes FSX up another level. Even with my 3 year old i7 at 3.8Ghz, it has never been better (next scheduled upgrade will be when haswell arrives).

 

BTW, driving 1280x720 res using a 680 gtx is like having a 100HP outboard on a row boat. What a ride at 50" that must be!

Hmmm... well you could still simulate the shadows... just have a couple back lit people moving around (with window frames similar to the airplanes) behind you. They will have to follow the angle of the sun to get it right... so long as you dont do any loops... it can be done.

Tell me about it! Eventually, I will have 3 projectors running Surround at 3840x720... Still a walk in the park for the GTX680... ;-)

I'm curious. I have shadows everywhere but the VC. At least I have not noticed them. Am I missing something ?

I now get a black screen when starting up fsx. I can no longer visualise the planes in theI selection screen.

 

I have deleted the shaders directory and my fsx.cfg file with no such luck.

 

How do I switch fsx back to dx9? There is no longer an option to deselect dx10 experimental mode in the configure menu.

Sigh, had to do a repair install. Now it works again.

sounds like you messed up OmniAtlas. Make sure you follow the read me to the letter, and you'll have 0 problems.

New convert here as well. It really does feel like butter. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making FSX with DX10 a new life. Nice work.

Yep, DX10 is the way to go. I was also suspicious at the beginning (you know, all those years listening how DX10 is broken yada yada yada..) but when I tried it with those recent improvements I was hooked - well, it's common sense actually.. more FPS, much smoother, ... it's a no-brainer!.

It's a pity that the DX10 fix didn't happen back when FSX was new... this wouldn't have been an issue now. It's a tall order with the giant catalog out there now. Maybe Devs could keep this in mind for all future projects though.

Or wait for the upcoming P3D in DX11 mode!

As their development and sales evolve in future years - I don't know that Lockheed-Martin P3D is going to be as friendly toward us FSX-ers.
