November 19, 201213 yr Hello, just wanted to know where the majority fly online, i am a big fan of vatsim, i love the way it works, the ATIS, the controllers and the client. i think (from experience) vatsim is more close to the real thing. been in a 737, and 757, heard some real communication and stuff. what do you think, it's really interesting. cheers. November 19, 201213 yr Both are "more close to the real thing", it all depends on where you want to fly. I've been on IVAO for ~3 years and i'm happy. November 19, 201213 yr I have accounts on both. I usually fly on Vatsim, but only because I've used their client, etc., more often so I'm more used to how it works. Alfredo Terrero
November 19, 201213 yr Try both, use both if you want too. I personally use VATSIM the most. Simon Roberts

November 19, 201213 yr I fly on VatSim, though now that some scenery I am interested in has come out in England, I might try IVAO. Even though, I do see controllers and traffic over there from VatSim, not really sure what the difference is. William Sequeira
November 19, 201213 yr Commercial Member Not in the PMDG NGX forums guys... Exactly what I was thinking... It's not really even PMDG-related, but if you really wanted it to be in a PMDG forum, General would be your best shot. Then again, it seems rampant today. Another thread in here is about the FSX Tweaker... If I ever had to fly with some of these people, I'd be scared to see what their flight bag looked like, much less their chart binders. Kyle Rodgers

November 20, 201213 yr I fly on VatSim, though now that some scenery I am interested in has come out in England, I might try IVAO. Even though, I do see controllers and traffic over there from VatSim, not really sure what the difference is. The ATC coverage for the UK is excellent on vatsim, so you wont have to move to IVAO for traffic. You could try IVAO for other reasons of course. -Wim Sjoholm, vatsim-scandinavia S2 vatsim s3
November 20, 201213 yr Personally, I prefer vatsim due to the coverage in the States. November 20, 201213 yr I have the same question actually. For months now I have been thinking of trying online flying but I'm reluctant to do so. And while I'm a lot at ease with controlling my 4 addon planes (all from PMDG and Leonardo), reading all these training material (especially on IVAO) has me intimidated. And they're supposed to welcome and want new pilots. Regions I would be interested for flying would be the following (because I have a lot of addon airports there): - parts of Europe (France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, UK, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Greece, Cyprus) - US - Central America and Carribean So could someone note down the pros and cons of each one of them? PS: The most important question of all: In this case, bigger and more and whole would be better. So why don't the two of them (VATSIM and IVAO) unite into one?
November 20, 201213 yr Personally, I prefer vatsim due to the coverage in the States. Yes me too. Regards,Stan
November 20, 201213 yr Both are "more close to the real thing", it all depends on where you want to fly. I've been on IVAO for ~3 years and i'm happy. Didn't IVAO come out with an updated Pilot Client earlier this month, how is that vers? And how do they do with voice communicating, same as before, RW-Teamspeak? I'm interesting to try it out but that voice part have been held me away from it, so far....
November 20, 201213 yr So why don't the two of them (VATSIM and IVAO) unite into one? That's a long story I am not qualified to answer but will give it my very best. It dates back to the days of SATCO. The short story is that, there was a difference in opinion as to the direction SATCO should take. IVAO was formed when a SATCO leader, Mortan Hanson, split away. SATCO shut down some time after that and Vatsim rose from the ashes, if you will, and purchased the rights to all things SATCO. My understanding is that Vatsim follows more in the tradition set by SATCO, which is to heavily train controllers and make it more life like. IVAO on the other hand takes a less strict approach. Honestly I have been considering flying on IVAO so I can make a more informed choice of which I prefer. That basically is the answer to your pros and cons question. Each has their upside and downside. The question is more a matter of preference. I greatly enjoy the controllers on Vatsim. I have had more than one challenge me with directions and changes to my flight plan. I have also had many great opportunities to soak up the scenery as I am vectored around for landing.
