November 26, 201213 yr I used to fly Default aircraft all the time. Thats all I would fly. The 737, 747, and so on. There all "decent". When I first played FSX, I was kind of happy that most of the controls were kept simple, because I had no idea what I was doing really, with no aircraft experience. But once I got more advanced, learning how planes operate, and practicing my skills FSX, I moved on to the pay ware aircraft, like the PMDG, and Captainsim. Now you can actually see more physics involved in the plane, as well as reality. Like most of the button and controls in real life are toggable in the payware. And the default doesn't even have an FMS! That was a killer for me. After using pay ware, I find it impossible to fly default 737, 747's The smaller aircraft are fine as default with me though. Do you ever fly default once you purchased pay ware aircraft? I think they could have done a bit more effort in the detail of the planes.
November 26, 201213 yr I've never been able to fly any of the default aircraft after discovering payware. With GA aircraft by Carenado, RealAir and Milviz, how can default be attractive at all? With corporate jets by Eaglesoft, helicopters by Dodosim and Nemeth, and military by Vertical Reality, Milviz and Razbam, there is no desire left for default. Robert Yunque
November 26, 201213 yr I sometimes use the default C172 for IFR procedure training. Other than that I never fly them. They were fine in 2006 but after trying some of the many high quality payware add-ons available today it's only natural that your standards have been raised. Rolf Lindbom
November 26, 201213 yr In the past, default planes were great. I still think they are since their concept is to give you the 'you are a pilot' impression while things stay relatively simple. Man, I was so proud about an ILS landing. And I was flying a jet. :Party: I still think some default planes are actually really good. Take the Maule or the DC-3. The glider is nice too. Or the Extra300. But, as one progresses, the addons kick it and even the simpler one among those have so nice textures and model details, it doesn't make sense to go back. Now, don't laugh, default airplanes are still the best test bed for me. If they work or show navaids, I know the stuff works. If a fancy addon plane does wonky things, I often wonder who did wrong. Me, bad pilot, or one of the fancy systems just failing. :( Both? Now the default stuff still serves another purpose. Building the basis for freeware and even payware devs at times. So I still applaud to MS for giving the very standard FSX such a nice variety of planes. And I do believe they still have their fans or allow new users to start.. with a real 747!
November 26, 201213 yr They're a bit long in the tooth now, but I still fly the default 737 (with a few mods) when I feel the urge for bus driving. The default Beaver I like very much, so much so that I never reinstalled Aerosoft's Beaver package. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
November 26, 201213 yr Just because I have the Carenado C337 doesn't mean I'm not going to fly the default C172. Same with the DiscusX sailplane and the default DG808S. Since getting the DodoSim 206 Jetranger I doubt I'll do much flying in the default Bell 206, but it's possible. When you have a good payware version of a default aircraft, you get used to the features. There's often no reason to revisit the older aircraft. If I had a *good* payware C172, I wouldn't bother with the default one. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
November 26, 201213 yr I don't fly default aircraft anymore, but er... I also don't fly 6 year old payware aircraft anymore... ^_^
November 26, 201213 yr I fly some of the default aircraft mainly the Grumman Goose and the Caravan. I really enjoy tweaking aircraft and the funny thing is I find myself tweaking pay-ware aircraft more than the default. The default aircraft just work. November 26, 201213 yr No payware aircraft at all here. Quite happy with the default and extensions of them (Project Airbus, Project Opensky/SkySpirit etc).
November 26, 201213 yr Now that you say it. I totally forgot about the default Goose. With the free Ozx HD mods, it's actually a really nice ship.

I really enjoy tweaking aircraft and the funny thing is I find myself tweaking pay-ware aircraft more than the default. The default aircraft just work. Some default aircraft work better than others. The Grumman Goose, with tweaks, is excellent. Without tweaks it's a bit odd. I was just researching the A2A Cub. I gotta say that if I had that one, the default J3 would never get loaded. Hook Now that you say it. I totally forgot about the default Goose. With the free Ozx HD mods, it's actually a really nice ship. The graphics are great. I prefer my tweaked flight model. November 26, 201213 yr I fly the default C172 - it's pretty decent with fde mods either by RealAir or Alexander Metzger... It's a good basic IFR trainer. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 26, 201213 yr The Goose is not bad at all. But 'play FSX'... When you learn more, you want to raise the bar, and demand more. Thats why it never ends. Once bitten by the bug...
November 26, 201213 yr I agree after having the PMDGs (737 / 747) that I "don't look back" unless flying one of the Missions that use them. However I still quite enjoy those missions. Many have mentioned the default planes that are still fun to fly (the Extra etc). Two FS planes that stand out are the DG808S (I've yet to find a "better" glider). The other is an update of the DH.88 Comet (from FS9 to FSX) by Classic Wings. That plane *will* test your landing and crosswind skills. http://www.classicwings.net/dh88_comet.html
November 26, 201213 yr I happened to delete the default 747, 737 and CRJ. Since I have much better quality 737's/747's thanks to PMDG. To be honest I used to fly the default 737 allot before the NGX came out as I found most other payware 737's to be of poor standards/quality to what I was looking for!
