December 5, 201213 yr Ok all peace in paradise again. After the install of the SP3, everything is again up to standard that I am used from this specific developer. However I did some tests. The MAIN culprit for the fps hogg is the 3D grass. Between grass HEAVY and grass LIGHT my FPS differ by between 17 and 22. Running now grass light and it is a really nice experience.. well much better then harvey at the moment. I think I will sat with the grass "light". So yeah go grab it. Remember to get the PFJ SP3 first.. (Still weird how they released this airport without PFJ SP being available at least same time - a bit of putting the Wagon in front of the horse - unless this SP is indeed a quick fix for a rushed out job..!), but alas lets leave that there. I am happy. All back to normal. Great Airport that I will frequent from time to time.

I am happy. All back to normal. Great Airport that I will frequent from time to time. Yeah, timing is everything, but these guys are working from places around the world so I suspect timing is a little more difficult for them to pull off, especially if any last minute problems pop up, like they always do  Off to download it now, just installed SP3!!!!
December 5, 201213 yr I can't believe the frequency these guys have been whipping out the sceneries at. Insane. It's not one team of guys that's working in the same office down under: Orbx is a company that releases products from various persons and teams of scenery designers from all over the world under its own name. Hence the differences in quality and performance. The time between releases never is the time spend on one project, that's for sure. BTW This addon has some pretty ground textures! But I don't buy (and use) Orbx airport addons anymore: I love the regions but the airports differ too much in quality and performance and they make bigger regions look less good. ^_^ And they cost too much imho, specially when you buy them all (I own some 12 NA airports... anyone interested? I don't even have them installed anymore!) I also found out that all that detail you can see on screenshots is nowhere to be seen when you are actually flying (which is what FSX is about). A few years ago I was a nutter for detailed airports and everything moving but now I couldn't care less. I love how the airports are in Orbx England (some static things here and there) and that's enough for me. Saves me a lot of money. Besides, I found it annoying to see the same old guys walking in patterns on every airport... ^_^ Still, if you like detailed GA airports, you won't find them better anywhere else, that's for sure.
December 5, 201213 yr I still have a bad taste in my mouth from that fiasco last year, and the fall out afterwards. Al Stiff
December 5, 201213 yr Author I downladed PFJ SP3 and turned grass to lite and it is quite alot smoother now, even on ground. Almost butter  This and Stewart are now my best performing ORBX airports, with almost no noticable FPS hit. i9 9900k - 32 gb RAM @ 3200mhz - 2070 RTX 8gb
December 6, 201213 yr also found out that all that detail you can see on screenshots is nowhere to be seen when you are actually flying (which is what FSX is about). Well, as you say, to each his own but with the large areas of annotated photoscenery Orbx is doing on many of their recent releases (KJAC, KYWS, CZST, heck even little S45 now and soon KSFF...) I can't agree with this part. One of the reasons I've been looking forward to Bella Coola is because I know how much Stewart, with all of its surrounding detail, enhances the experience of flying up the waterway and descending into the field. The difference between the default Stewart area and the enhanced is, well... there's really no comparison. It's a joy to fly in to. The rest boils down to what is and isn't important to you, and if a good airport isn't - it isn't. From my perspective, airports are a big part of aviation - so to me they're very much in line with "what FSX is about". - unless this SP is indeed a quick fix for a rushed out job..! I don't think this is the case, as the installer even references a newer service pack. I expect it's just a matter of timing and coordination. Scott
December 6, 201213 yr While all these small sceneries are nice, I still can't believe no quality SEA PDX YVR and YYC have not been released yet. I hope by the end of the year.

December 6, 201213 yr Yeah it's funny how performance differ from system to system. FSX performance is a complicated matter. True dat! Read Word Not Allowed's guide and literally it is all explained in there....
December 6, 201213 yr You mean SEA and PDX from Orbx? If so, bad news. They aren't doing the big airports anymore. Glad to hear the SP fixed the issues and that FPS is good. Off to buy. @ Ben: yeah, I've read the guide. But FSX is a strange beast and it does indeed run differently on even very similar systems without much rhyme or reason.

The rest boils down to what is and isn't important to you, and if a good airport isn't - it isn't. Well, the thing is that I am a bit obsessed with concistency... ^_^ The surroundings of those addon airports look great indeed but I am the kind of guy that wants it all or rather nothing. I noticed that I only flew to addon airports and didn't like leaving the enhanced area. I hardly visited other parts of the larger regions. When I reinstalled FSX and left out those addon airports, I noticed I had a lot more fun flying EVERYWHERE without thinking 'this part looks better then that part' because everything looked 'on par'. Another thing is that the various addons themselves aren't concistent: some are awesome and some are er... not (imho). You can clearly see the hands of the various developers and I don't like that either. So in the end I am a lot more happy without the addon airports. Saves a lof of money too. Anyway, this shows that indeed it 'boils down to what is and isn't important to you' and 'to each his own'. ^_^ That's why I ended my post by saying 'if you like detailed GA airports, you won't find them better anywhere else', to make clear I wasn't simply bashing Orbx but pointing out my personal view. I really love PNW and and now England (I only fly there now): those bigger region addons are very concistent and I don't plan to spoil that concistency with addon airports. Yeah, it's just me being silly.
December 6, 201213 yr Is this Bella Coola a fictional airport? Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

December 6, 201213 yr and I don't plan to spoil that concistency with addon airports. Yeah, it's just me being silly. No worries. I respect your opinion, (odd though it may be ). What I was really reacting to was the part about not getting to actually see the scenery when flying, and flying being what FSX was all about. In the interests of full disclosure, I will admit that I'm a GA airport junky in real life as well, though. A good GA airport is the place where all the magic of aviation begins and ends. Of course, Orbx do a remarkable job of upgrading almost all fields in their regions, which is one of the reasons I value what they provide, and is also one of the main reasons I have a hard time flying out of Orbx territory unless I have some sort of upgraded airport to fly to. I actually like summer/day flying in photoscenery in the SW US, for example, but I can't stand landing or departing from most airports there. Anything near the ground is an immersion killer. Outside of Orbx territory, there are few GA airports available, at least for the places I fly. Scott
