Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.

Happens /almost/ on any flight, usually about 20-30 minutes into the flight. Found no way so far to bring it back, no un- and replugging, no exiting to task manager, no using FSUIPC, no saving and resetting flight.. Need to close and restart P3D. This basically makes the sim unusable for me.

I can't believe this thread is still going at this rate.   Register your controls with FSUIPC, Disable your joystick in FSX menu = 100% reliable joystick availability.

Well, in my case fsuipc doesn't even recognise joystick inputs in Windows 8.   Wysłane z mojego GT-I9100

If you guys feel like experimenting, trying getting a copy of dinput8.dll from a Win7 syswow64 folder and copying it into your main fsx folder on win8. DO NOT overwrite any files on the win8 machine, just put into your main fsx folder. When you are done testing you can just delete the file (or if it fixes the problem leave it in).

Also verify if you do/do not pass your controller inputs through fsuipc.

Just tried it, issue still occurs and I don't do any inputs through fsuipc.

I had this problem when I first installed Windows 8 sporadically and the controls would come back if I tabbed out and then I had no problems for a few weeks but now the problem is back and much worse. Now when it happens I loose all input except for keyboard and mouse and no matter what I try it doesn't come back without a shut down of flight sim and a restart.

I have the full version of FSUIPC and that program also looses all connection to FSX.

The interesting thing for me is that when I run FSX with just shade it seems the issue does not happen near as fast as if I am running shade, REX, Pro Flight Emulator, and Air Hauler. This leads me to believe a conflict is happening and I suspecting simconnect. I have no evidence it is simconnect just a hunch.

What I did do and it helped although I need to do more testing is set FSX.exe to compatibility mode of Vista service pack 3. ( or service pack 2 whatever is the latest service pack choice for vista) In my short test flight with this setting it did not happen but I need more testing time because it could have just been coincidence.

Don't agree with UAC being a security feature.

It turns out, it doesn't solve the issue with the hardware, but it is a barrier to running an OS with full

permissions.

Windows 8 has obviously messed up somewhere with the hardware permissions.

UAC is only benefical if you don't know what you're doing with the OS.

Seems running FSX with Vista permissions was a fluke. But for those of you with the full version of FSUIPC there may be hope. I have discovered that if I uncheck enable controllers in FSX and run everything through FSUIPC the problem has not occurred since.

Ill update if it messes up again.

Yes you can. I actually have the X52 Pro stick and throttle, combat rudder pedals, and a logitech joystick all setup through FSUIPC with controllers disabled in FSX. I actually have a flight running right now at home while I am away. When I get home if it is still flying and the controls work then I will update this post.

Is there like a guide anywhere to be able to do this? Hopefully when you get back your flight still works in terms of the controls :P

So far so good. I have completed a 5 hour flight and several 30 min flights and no loss of joystick control. For the people who have a registered copy of FSUIPC try assigning all of your joystick commands through FSUIPC and uncheck your enable controllers in FSX. This will not disable your mouse and keyboard just joysticks.

MattGarner a good place to start is simflight forums in the FSUIPC support section. There are links to guides there.

Hi Everyone,

switching to the task-manager , expanding the fsx-task, then right clicking on fsx.exe and choosing 'Bring to Front' always brought back my Joystick. Sometimes I have to repeat it twice or from time to time and sometimes the Joystick will stay for the whole session.

Assigning the Joystick to FSUIPC (registered) is the best idea,as long as you don't go to your Joystick or FSUIPC Settings and confirm your settings ( lets say for assigning new Keyboard commands etc.) as long as your Joystick is lost. Then FSUIPC will also loose the Joystick.

At least this is what I experienced on my rig B).

Best regards, Mike.

I have the whole day tomorrow. I will be doing a lot of flying and tweaking.... Will try the above and report back....

Hi everyone - I have the Joystick-issue - of course, otherwise I wouldn't write here...

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The loss of the stick happens on my Windows 8 Computer only when i'm flying online with the PMDG 737 NGX. All other planes cause no problem and the stick stays with me. The loss occurs more often if i use an acars-tool like xacars or kacars.

But once more: It NEVER happens on other planes than the PMDG 737 NGX!

Hope there will be a solution soon...

Since I only fly the NGX and MD11, it never occured to be to try an inhouse aircraft.

Maybe you have something there.
