Yeah, it will most likely break up from inside just like Ancient Rome did, sooner or later, or alternatively unify with some other areas into even bigger superpower, maybe even world government if humankind manages to stay alive long enough to invent proper space travel and make conquering other planets possible.

// and hah not that really US civilians with weapons would be the ones stopping any foreign power from invading the country, but with current huge and technologically advanced military US will remain way too powerful for any foreign power to win for long time to come.

Yeah, it will most likely break up from inside just like Ancient Rome did,

I always figured that as well. slowly over time, perhaps starting with Texas separating from the Union. Nothing in the world lasts forever and things change over time.

Not sure about a world government as the UN is a collosal failure, too many differences. Even the EU has proven to have its challenges.

I'm sorry, can you please clarify whether that's meant to be a joke or a serious statement?

That foreign power, equipped with an air-force, guided weapons and God knows what, capable of making an invasion over thousands of miles of ocean, opposed by the most powerful military in the world, is going to be deterred by a bunch of civilians running around in the chaos of a war with a mix of small arms, probably shooting more of each other as potential home invaders than anything else?

It's a cracking joke in less tragic circumstances but if you really believe it, things are far worse than we thought.

I saw it as a bit of satire. not to be taken seriously.

But yes the local population would prove to be a serious challenge. I always loved that film Red Dawn

To add to the fun, its been suggested (again) in some venues that the answer to tragedys like this one would include armed teachers.......

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Yeah, a lot of people liked Evan Almighty but I'm not aware that people try to use it as a justification for building arks on their front lawns to teach those pesky floods a lesson.

Let's take it as a joke, please let it be a joke.......

Interesting. Yes I just googled it and there are a number of news feeds suggesting this.

This has been going on for a long time, with regards to arming teachers.

I personally agree with this!

This is what they do in Israel:

And, an interesting video relating as to why disarming the populace is welcomed by certain elements of society:

Is the answer to why it's probably necessary to arm teachers in Israel and shouldn't be in the US:

"because Israel is at all times subject to very likely terrorist attacks from its own population, where 1 in 6 are potentially hostile, and from immediately bordering states, both supported by nearby rogue nations, whereas the United States is subject to a much lower risk of terrorism, having less than 1 in 100 of obviously potential hostiles within its own territories and being protected from external enemies by several thousand miles of ocean in either direction, backed up by perhaps the most rigorous border controls and finest law enforcement agencies in the world" ?

Just to clarify something for our foreign friends. The Second Amendment has zilch to do with hunting. It's design was for citizens to have protection from the government going nuts, intruders, riots whatever. Never is the word hunting used. I have several AR 15's and hand guns. While I accept you don't get it criminals don't get to determine what I do with my life. Drunk drivers don't get to decide if I can have a beer.

Randy, as I've said - you have a legitimate reason to have your weapons and I fully respect that.

But drunk drivers have determined that you will be committing a crime if you drive with your blood alcohol level above a certain amount and hijackers have determined exactly what you can take on board an aircraft and where you can go inside the aircraft.

I mentioned in a prior post about placing two police officers in schools as per a Community Policing program in Toronto. This program I do support. When they did introduce this program it was controversial due to the police being armed and bringing guns into the schools. But a Glock is standard equipment so they do wear them in the schools.

This program has been in place for years now and has proven successful. Keeps the gangs and drugs at bay. Teachers have enough on their plates without introducing weapons training and arming them as well.

Which is exactly what happened at the Connecticut school.

The shooting was a form of terrorism on innocent civilians,in this particular case, childeren!

Yes because Israel is a great example to hold up as a beacon of peace and stability

No, no, you misunderstand.

Terrorism - Noun - The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

Political, organised, well financed, fanatical terrorism, not random nutcases with easy access to firearms.
