Worth it?

Yes, here and there, flying turns over detailed scenery and complex aircraft, cloud layers below and above me. But I trade them in for the eye candy. That is most important, we all have to trade in few things, whatever flightsim we prefer. I hope 2013 will give us health, good luck and many happy flights in the flightsims of our choice. And peace on earth.

I agree, happy new year!

bah humbug, I want a flightsim that offers everything  .....now......still looking

It's quite funny that people like to compare X-Plane to FSX + add-ons. Seems that everyone forgot when FSX was lunched and when became mainstream. XP10 it's now 1 year old and getting better and better. Yes there are many updates, but most of them are betas (which you can avoid them) and this procedure is more involving.

ORBX textures against XP defaults. What an argument! Has ORBX released the whole planet? I don't think so! If they do can someone give me an estimation of Terabytes of HDD will be required?

Is there any other aircraft, except NGX, so good in FSX? No I don't think so. Have you tested the latest top XP payware and see no comparison?

Flight Dynamics? Give me a break! I never saw in X-Plane an airliner tumbling around itself for ever... Yes there aircraft that may not handle very well, but that more wrong from developer side and not from sim. Of course XP is not perfect. Airlines pay million of dollars to get one of those perfect, and even those have not 100% accurate flight dynamics.

At the end, if someone do not want to see the future, his choice. In a couple of years, want it or not, XP will be they way! Want it of not!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Everything from A2A. Probably lots more from other developers. Realair seems to have a good reputation.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

Orbx add-ons may look awesome, but they never released something for my region, they never released something for my country, they never released an add-on for my operating system, and I don't think my hardware is fast enough for this.

I'm using different add-ons in X-Plane, and I would be glad to see how this region looks in "FSX + add-ons" today:

It's quite funny that people like to compare X-Plane to FSX + add-ons.

Why is it funny?

FSX plus addons is what many of us have today. As we evaluate potential new sims (which I do constantly, as I do want something that's better sometime down the road), that's the standard we're evaluating against. Is that fair? Don't know and don't care - it's what IS. Why would I move to a sim that offers less than what I'm currently flying, just because it's better than vanilla FSX which I don't use? That's the argument that makes no sense.

BTW, none of the above is meant to be specific to X-Plane or any other sim or to resurrect tired old "which is better" arguments. It's a general comment. Like many, I'm reading here because I AM interested in X-Plane and continue to follow its development. Obviously good 3rd party content is starting to become available and the base platform continues to improve. I'm intrigued - just not quite intrigued enough yet to begin investing time and money.

And........that's just how it is!

I have to compare XPX with the sim I use. It's a 1500€+ FSX. That's what I have and why should I use XPX at it's current stage? Most of the money was spend during the last few month. I made that descision because I do not believe in the future of XPX. Before the big boys will throw in their high quality add ons, Austin will move to XP11. And leaves XPX unfinished as 9.7. I have spent enough money on XP9 to be burned for now.

There is a video on the net, of a X-Plane 172 dragging a 747 hanging vertically from a rope, through the sky..........

but that doesn't really matter. No sim will get everything right, at least in this point in time. What does matter, is that no single desktop sim is holding the flight dynamics advantage across the board. Any one who say's so, doesn't have the experience to know better, could be thinking in terms of marketing, or hasn't tried a range of so many choices that are available.

I went fully DCS World :-)

I am SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo Glad!!!!!

250+ GB of disk waiting for new scenery areas, more precision aircraft / helicopter modules, DCS World 1.2.3, etc... A lot to study, but precision, detail, accuracy, plausibility waiting for you every single second of flight simming on that platform...

Not a smell of FSX or XPlane, or even MS FLIGHT or AeroflyFS around my PC .... Well, there is one - the box with the XPX disks awaiting a miracle during the next months before XP11 get's announced and... here we go again ... (well, not me... unless good reasons exist...)

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I have spent enough money on XP9 to be burned for now.

What's the name of the add-on your did buy for X-Plane 9 and you can't use it now in X-Plane 10 ? Most planes and sceneries I'm using in X-Plane 10 were designed and built for X-Plane 9. One example here, the Duchess:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/392306-the-duchess-in-hyvinkaa/

How much FS2004 add-ons can you still use in FSX, FSX SP1, or FSX SP2 ?

I went fully DCS World :-)

I am SSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo Glad!!!!!

I will too!

Just as soon as they include the whole Mountain West of the USA, in precision detail......

In the meantime, one sim will not fit all.
