January 15, 201313 yr Author JUST HAD A TEST FLIGHT IN THE DEFAULT 747 OUT OF KJFK WITH 49-63 FPS SMOOTH!! Had around 19-29 FPS at jfk with default 737. ALL SCENERY SLIDERS MAXED EXCEPT THE MESH ONES WHICH WERE ALMOST MAXED. Traffic at 50% and only light bloom and Antialiasing unchecked. Most who fly this region in FSX know that the whole New York area is a Frame eater but i made out pretty good this time. Heres what ive done so far: FIRST OF ALL, I went back to my vanila cpu. nothing special, just the original "out of the box" default processor. Then i uninstalled ALL ADDONS and FSX itself. Then i wiped the drive clean and rid my registry of all the old FSX stuff. Then i did a fresh install of FSX on the same drive but this time my cpu is not overclocked. Then i did a test flight with the 747. it was alright- getting around 19-30 smooth FPS. Then i used NICKN's Nvidia Inspector guide. http://www.simforums...topic36586.html Then i tweaked the sliders to the settings stated above. Finally i went into my FSX.cfg file and added the HIGHMEMFIX=1 just to start with to see how the game acts. Although HIGHMEMFIX=1 is probably not going to help my frames in a default Aircraft im adding the necessary tweaks little by little after every test flight to see how much performance i can gain just on my CPU running at stock speed. Next im going to try to add the AffinityMask=14 to see if i can achieve more out of FSX and also i will begin to experiment with some addons.
January 15, 201313 yr Good. Starting from scratch is the most important. Personally I think a lot of the cfg tweaks are unnecessary. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 15, 201313 yr Author Yes thats what ive always come to think in the end. Although alot of people claim these little tweaks are the difference between night and day in their FSX i still believe that inside the game itself you are doing the same exact thing with the settings menu. Balancing the Sliders plays a key role in how your sim will perform. With out a shadow of a doubt i do believe that some of these tweaks can cause noticible differences in some peoples performance but only because they have a good balance of hardware.
January 15, 201313 yr <br />Although HIGHMEMFIX=1<br /> Highmemfix is not a tweak, it is a fix. And a must have for FSX. January 15, 201313 yr Adjust your vertical speed, I mean your sliders.. adjust my fps is ranging from 29-57 from VC on FTX PNW KMHQ using P 40+AccuSim and Accu Feel V2y FPS is set to unleashed. Found only very minor stutters, by minor means I hardly notice and it is not that annoying. I dont fly heavies in fsx thats why Im keeping my good old fs9. January 15, 201313 yr If I wanted default FSX I would not have bought addons. We buy addons to build immersion into the sim. Most will accept a modest performance hit. My limit these days is about 20 fps with sliders to the right (except autogen). I'll dip with 2048 Rex textures for weather. The first thing everyone does with a new rig is slam sliders to the right. It's hope for a better sim that keeps us tweaking, adjusting and buying new hardware.
January 15, 201313 yr ^^ what Ryan said in his first post. Get it all working properly. Backup. add one or two tweaks to fsx config (himem and BPools) Backup. See what your average is. Backup. Tweak the hardware now. I'm so bored of arseing with my system to chase other ppls FR's (prolly all wrong anyway LOL) My system is totally stable now (mildly similar to yours) most of my issues were around HEAT. When your CPU gets too hot it will downclock itself (unless you've turned it off in BIOS) I'm not talking about Turbo mode, I'm talking about adaptive heat control..search youtube for the ASUS ROG vids; they rock. Also, turn off HT. It adds heat and does nothing for FSX (but leave it on if you want to do anything with video/audiop prcessing as it helps) heat, heat, heat...At 4.6 my rig puts out 78 degrees under 100% load (I have water cooling) when it gets too hot (I haven't cleaned the rads, and re-tim'ed the CPU for three months) it goes into the low 90's, for real...The whole system grinds to a jerky halt.. My biggest problem is being able to capture my solid 30FPS properly to youtube it...As soonas I start DXTORY, my FR drops 5 fps JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
January 15, 201313 yr Author I usually have HT disabled all the time. My temps arent bad(avg37c) but like you said if i go over a certain temp it might try to downclock the cpu. I knew that happens with video cards but didnt know the CPU can be limited by that as well. I still havent OCed it again so im still running the plain jane cpu but getting pretty good FPS(19-31) on the ground and 35-100 in the sky. This is with GEX and ENB series installed so far on the fresh install. The 100+FPS is usually at around 20,000 feet and higher. The higher you go the better the frames get. In regards to Fullmetal02 I strongly agree which is why ill probably keep wasting my money on PC upgrades in hopes of running an 8 year old game at its finest! IMO That is another reason to keep playing it...to see if you can achieve the results you want with this years setup haha. That and the fact that its the most "practical" simulator out there next to Xplane which i have yet to try due to the fact that ive always stuck with FS since 2000 when the twin towers were still part of the manhattan skyline! Im sure in 8-10 years from now there are going to be some people(me for sure) that are going to get bored with the current game they are playing and stick FSX in their current setup to see how well it does with a 2023 PC. Those people are going to be dissapointed when FSX is running the very same as it is now! I dont want to believe it though. Its a shame that microsoft didnt want to keep the series running but who knows what p3d will achieve. Today im going to try more installing and see where my performance pans out with more and more things being slowly added.
January 15, 201313 yr Mate airliners are a killer combined with detailed scenery. Don't worry too much just lock the frames at 20 for smoothness if flying complex glass cockpits like the NGX. I've clocked to 5Ghz and have SSDs, 16gb of very fast ram, killer GPU etc but FSX will always perform like a dog lol. At least I get smoothness and a beautiful directx 10 2560x1600 cockpit but never high frames compared to DCS, FSX just doesn't want to go any faster. Non-glass though is a different story, GA and A2A aircraft I can lock between 30-40 depending on the airports It may dip though. But this is still not good compared to other sims that weren't dumped, but I'm happy with for FSX as I know how hard it was to get to there.
January 16, 201313 yr LOL, I built my rig just for FSX and still am far away from the perfect setup. Ah well, the joys of comp upgrades and software updates. :Big Grin: the most important step in any add-on of tweak to FSX is BACKUP. Learned the hard way on that one. Forgot to back up my FSX and it all went to crap in less time than it took me to start the pgm. MS sure let a gem get away from them when the let the ACES guys go. MS Flight.......pfft!!!! What a waste of code. If your getting good FPS now, I'd wait to o'c until FSX is done (all add-ons installed). Then I'd fly, check FPS, then if you wanted to start the upward clock increases.......SLOWLY! Don't just jump it back to where it was. Sometimes a slower o'c is better than the petal to the metal. January 16, 201313 yr The last thing I do is manage addons. Before I buy something I ask is it worth the risk that ill get decreased performance. This hobby takes as much thought as real flying.
January 16, 201313 yr The last thing I do is manage addons. Before I buy something I ask is it worth the risk that ill get decreased performance. This hobby takes as much thought as real flying. LOL! You are right about that! Almost as tedious and frustrating as owning and maintaining a real aircraft. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
January 16, 201313 yr One thing most of us get carried away with, is the frame rate we are achieving. I'm using P3D now, I have my FPS locked at 30 and things feel really nice and smooth, I notice when I get into some very heavy area's that FPS may drop to 20-21 and it will bug the bejesus out of me, but you know what? When I press shift-z a couple times and hide my FPS I cant notice the difference between the 20-21 and the 30 things are just very smooth. I have since gone cold turkey and have taught myself to leave the shift-z alone, I will not touch it unless there is an obvious problem, which there hasnt been one yet. To the OP I have a high end system similar to yours and I wouldnt think a $40 purchase would be much of an issue. My advice would be to add P3D to your library as it is just a more stable and more bug free version of fsx and 95% of all addons will work with it. I'm sold on the stability and the stutter free performance of the simulator. Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com
January 21, 201313 yr Author well you know i would be satisfied with 20 smooth fps but depending on what AC im in and scenery i can get 14(CS777) to 35(AirbusX) in the air at low altitude, but i have many stutters! I would like to find out a way to reduce those.
January 25, 201313 yr Author MAN...I am pleased to say that after alot of trial and error, reinstalling programs, overclock tweaking, and changing all sorts of settings i have finally achieved a great FSX! I didn't even think it was possible to get a locked 30 fps in the Captain Sim 777 until now which i am achieving on the ground in the VC! Next up, NGX. I probley owe the most to Nvidia Inspector and my bios settings but none the less I have a great looking simulator. There are still some places i get minor stutters but nothing major. Im glad i am finally getting the kind of performance i should be from my 2700k! My water in my game looks beautiful as well! Hopefully now i can start enjoying my addons with a whole new level of detail and performance.
