Will we ever see cutting-edge avionics in FSX?

Featured Replies

The technology being put into the flight decks of new production airplanes is amazing - synthetic vision, geo-referenced charts, etc, but it seems to me that as these new avionics packages get more complex with more features it is less likely that we will see realistic interpretations of them in FSX. Does anyone think we will see PMDG-quality fidelity in something like a G3000 or have we hit a brick wall? Thoughts?

What PMDG did with their VSD was quite amazing in my opinion. I know Majestic is doing the true Wx radar on their dash 8...

VRS has cool NV through HUDS in their F18...

But I don't think we'll ever see FLIR/EVS along with powerful G2000/3000 systems..... most of that stuff is on bizjets and apparently they have extremely complex avionics which is why no one wants to do them.

Believe me, I'd be first in line to buy a PMDG Global Jet or any bizjet but they said market isn't big enough (I disagree but it's not my business hehe).

I know what you mean about the bizjets... oh the things I would do for a proper G650...

I think that PMDG will always be in the lead with the complexity and reality of the avionics. I do agree though that as avionics get more sophisticated the sim avionics will stay at a lower level just because of the complexity of actually making those systems. I do think PMDG and VRS and other manufactures of that quality will get and stay close to the real thing

Anything is possible. However, making something like the new avionics packages (like the G3000 with it's simulated 3D terrain display) would require creating a new 3D rendering engine within a gauge, possible but not easy or framerate friendly.

Ever noticed how PMDG has 1.44GB of terrain mesh in your FSX folder (under FSX/PMDG/DEM)? This is so their 737 can show terrain data which would otherwise be impossible to access by reading the accessible data within FSX. It's almost a sim within a sim.

Currently, and for a very long time, this will probably be the case. However, I believe that, long before I began using FSX, developers such as Captain Sim were considered to be more advanced and were more-highly regarded than PMDG was.

Especially considering the comparatively fragile and small amateur flight simulation market, the difficulty of obtaining accurate aircraft data and working inside a dated software platform, and the economic toughness of current times, things could easily and suddenly change.

Once P3D goes 64 bit, and updates the DirectX, we will likely see the type of updates your talking about. Lest we remember the other program mods LM is likely working on.

Bottom line, I think we'll see it in about 3 to 4 years.

Who said PP3D is going 64x?

Seriously? No, really, seriously? LOL!!!

I personally think it is some community created fantasy... Unfortunately, I don't see much future in P3D anymore like I used to.

Airbus A380 avionics, I don't know if we will ever see that. Given the time the systems are taking on the FSL A320.

I was a bit disappointed in the F1 Mustang, being the best G1000 simulation it's still lacking some.. But the plane itself is nice.

This must be sarcasm.

Among other things which are created around here. So many myths and dreams, I wouldn't be surprised if unicorns started popping up while surfing the site.

Well VRS has proven that FLIRs are possible in FSX. Based on some research im doing, 3D Synthetic displays can be done in framerate friendly ways as well.
