Which slider has most impact

Has anyone mentioned "water effects"? The difference between Max 2.x and the lower settings makes a huge difference on my machine at least.

Mesh resolution pretty much has no effect (unless you have some very high res mesh installed) and Mesh Complexity has very little effect.

Of course, every individuals PC is different so what works for one may not work for another. I suggest a good FPS testing session so you can figure out how your PC responds to the sliders.

I would never intentionally be rude to someone who has no idea what is means to even "turn your slider down", but when they refuse to do what I've asked and they contine to post and blame others is when it gets to me.

Wise lessons I learned here during the years is just try to be polite and when they choose not to listen

or choose another path just ignore the same questions.

Don't get frustrated it's bad for your health, and when you do don't vent it here because it backfires in forums ;-)

Further we speak different mother languages here so miscommunication can occur :(

As for FSX I agree it's all about sliders and hardware which has to be in balance which can be different on every local installation.

FSX maxed out with all sliders to the right with all 3d party add-ons (complex add-on aircraft/weather/large size textures/100% AI / Bloom/ Shadows)

can't still run decent or run into troubles (example OOM) on current hardware including some FSX bugs which are introduced with some sliders all to the right...

Have fun ladies and gentlemen :-)

Much like you Andre i hit the OOM limit before my FPS drops; in truth it's quite frustrating, i tweak my installation, it takes a day to get all the add-ons back, another couple of hours getting things working well, then i'm over Iceland in the NGX and bang OOM!!!!!

I am not leaping to anybodies defence, it is clear to me that both "Summer1" and "Word Not Allowed" are both very intelligent and 'IT literate', but i would have to say "Summer1" came across as rather abrupt and in the past i have also thought that of "Word Not Allowed". Conversely I would also say that they are both VERY helpful and knowledgeable.

It made me think of the state of Linux many years ago, (old man story...ignore as required) when i first started in IT professionally nearly 20 <pepperidge farm remembers> years ago the only Linux distribution was Slackware it didn't even have xWindows and was on 7 floppy disks. Questions on the BBS would always be met with a kind of patronising exasperation, it was not fun to be on the end of.

Totally.. The polite thing could have been to either ignore it, which would have been wise, as you clearly never read any of my posts about ORBX:ENG, or simply enquire as to my level of knowledge, rather than assume the worst, and go ranting at me for it... People who assume the worst, whilst uninformed, then go ranting at others based on this, are exceptionally rude, and will get treated the same.

You cant know every single persons setup or everything they have tried all of the time, yet your keen to pounce on others with your sliders rant all too quickly....

AVSim is a great place, so please, lets keep it that way

WOW, you really know how to be a b***h huh... Considering you didn't have all the facts..

But hey ho, thanks for being polite about it and not blurting out any old insult that fell out of your head...

Seriously, bursting into threads the way you do just so you can rant at people to "TURN THE FECKIN SLIDERS DOWN" is really, really rude.... Some might even say ignorant of how to speak to others less blessed with your knowledge.. I hope people don't talk to you like that... Oh, nope, of course they don't because you know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING!

You calling her rude maybe you should re read your opening line and second line

I have yet to see one helpful post by "Scarlett" (not "her" real name) in her entire post history. Telling people to turn your sliders down is not helpful because there are many different sliders. There are many ways to tweak the game to get acceptable framerates and smooth flights. Bufferpools=0, affinity mask, tbm, etc. Nothing she's said is in any way technical. Comparing her to Word Not Allowed is just ridiculous.

You have to admit though... She's better looking than Srdan... LMAO

The only slider that really counts is VOLUME.

The number of times I have heard "Turn that damn thing down!!" when taking off in a legacy JTD7 DC9

I love how this no longer has anything to do with FSX performance... :P

The only thing I have noticed making a significant impact on my performance is UT2 traffic and light bloom. I can have my autogen at low or max and get the same performance. I can have clouds at complete coverage density or low and get the same performance. And the light bloom trouble goes away when using DX10 (which i seldom use for the lack of AA and scenery compatability).

MyTraffic has a similar effect, it's very hard on loading times. Autogen has a performance impact most certainly, but it's pretty mixed from my observations, Cars are hard on FPS, GA, and Airliners, Boats have no impact that i can see.

Can't say I've tried DX10, largely due to lack of support.
