I'm going to destroy my computer..

Featured Replies

Ever since I wasted over 1800 on my gaming rig for fsx, I can't get it to stay stable and load textures fast as well as autogen. When I watch videos on youtube I see people with lower specs playing the game better then me, and no-to little scenery popping. My specs are ; i5 3570k oced to 4.3ghz on Air, galaxy gtx 580 -- 860mhz core , 16ddr3 ram 1600, p8z77 mobo, ocz vertex 4 ssd 128gb ( FSX AND OS ).

I've tried the bojote tweak, as well as numerous amount of tweaks. I am currently running 4- 5 addons ( GEX, REX, AERO SOFT CHICAGO, SAN FRAN, ETC ). I am at the last point of either literally destroying my machine and recording it on video, or giving it away.. Can someone please give me their fsx.cfg that runs fsx well with specs close to mine? THANKS SOO MUCH.

REGARDS,

Desperate FSX Player..

Hah yeah I don't think I can help but I share your pain, I've lately felt like throwing my computer and everything else outta window too.

Sorry to hear that you can't get it to run properly. My understanding is that for hardware like yours Kostas FSX Blogs tweaks will give you the best result.

Google it and start with a fresh cfg-file, Word Not Allowed has also info about how you should set up your nVidia Inspector. The whole process will take 30 minutes, well worth the try.

My rig is older and much different/poorer than yours so my cfg will not help I am afraid.

Good luck!

Step 1 - rename your fsx.cfg, then launch FSX and have it build you a new one.

Then, before adding tweaks, get the basic tuning right. There's good fundamental advice here, here and here. Pay attention to the recommendations for Windows 7 settings in addition to FSX tuning. While there are many source of advice for how to set up FSX and many of them are good, Nick Needham (one of the developers of GEX) knows the hardware in great depth and understands how hardware and software interact to produce performance.

After that, let the tweaks in slowly - ideally one at a time, then test, so you can see the effect each one is having. Good source is Word Not Allowed's blog, as mosteen suggests. Also look at the Avsim guide here.

Many people rely on Bojote's tweaks but they don't work equally well on all systems. I never got good performance out of them, possibly because of the way they interact with other settings in the guides I've mentioned.

If you visit the Avsim hardware forum, MOBO's subform, you'll find plenty of knowledgeable people ready to help.

Don't blow up the rig yet! Keep us posted.

If you have more than 1 pcie slot, try switching the card to another one. It might suprise you

Your system is actually faster than mine and I get decent frames (aside from ORBX + OZx in Tasmania but I think I need to defrag like they said after install). What has helped me the most was Word Not Allowed's nvidia settings and FSPS Xtreme PC V2. the FSPS edits your config file, but instead of you looking at text and code you get to adjust by moving sliders and checking boxes where needed, its very user friendly and allows me to be lazy and get good results.

What is your actual problem? When you say scenery will load not fast enought, do you mean it is blurry?

Have you adjusted you LOD radius in you cfg, perhaps try 6.5 ...................... LOD_RADIUS=6.500000

What type of flying are you doing, low and slow GA flying or commercial tubeliner type flying?

If low and slow, with orbx for exmaple I can get rid of blurries by simply running locked 30 FPS with LOD radius at 6.5

Like they say, Rome was not built in one day. Welcome to the world of FSX... even out of the box FSX does not behave as we think it should. You have to work with FSX and massage it until it is right. Alan_A provided vital links to posts that have made a difference for many FSX users, stick to it, don't get frustrated ($1800 paperweight's are not good to look at) read and re-read the post's and visit these forums for help, you will get what you are looking for...Hang in there.

...and remeber that a lot of those videos were recorded with FSX running at 1/2 speed, then accelerated in video editing software after the fact - in addition to several other digital manipulations of colour, contrast and various effects.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Plus no matter what system you have, you can't just expect to throw multiple, performance-intensive add-ons into FSX and have it come up running at 60fps.

A Piper Cub flying into ORBX Seattle at night, around the city, with FTX Night on (i.e. lights enabled), is a far different thing from flying a PMDG 737 into that same scenario at 3x the speed.

Are you looking to enjoy IFR? VFR? Very different focuses. High and fast with heavy clouds out to the distance, or low and slow with fog in the valleys? Ditto.

Money does not solve the problem, thought does (although no amount of ingenious mystery tweaking will turn slower hardware into faster hardware, either).

I'm a bit concerned about your video card, does not sound like the highest quality manufacturer/repackager. Cheaper variants of a piece of hardware often means you get a component that didn't test out at spec or top of class, so there might be a problem there, too. If possible, I'd trade that card in for a different one, like EVGA. You barely get what you pay for these days, and there's all sorts of cheap-out skulduggery out there to trick you into a "bargain" which is anything but.

I agree with this, but not fully. Galaxy is not terrible, the components on their higher end GPU's are solid, their low end stuff is lack luster to say the least. I do prefer EVGA, they are all I will use, I don't think his GPU is necessarily the problem. He needs to do additional tweaking to get the best performance for either VFR or IFR flight. This is actually why I suggested him buying FSPS FSX Xtreme PC V2, its a simple to use but detailed GUI FSX config editor, it produces very good results, I have been using it for over a year now, have not regretted buying it 1 bit.

I was feeling the same you did a few days ago . Now i have found a way to narrow it down the problem with fsx, i recently purchase Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge -E 3.5 GHz Six Core. An instead of getting nice FPS an smooth FSX what i seem to get is 2 second stutter when speeding down the runway. My FPS will be stable 30 Lock an then when speeding down the runway it will drop to 10FPS . I felt like i spend all this money on a CPU that doesn't do nothing to FSX. My First thought was to overclock it but then i said no way because it is new an it runs perfectly well with other games, software even music production software why can't it work with FSX. So i deleted my FSX.cfg file an started fresh from start, i had problem trying to view my aircraft they all appear to be white an texture tearing with out DirectX 10 being enable. So my next step was to try a different fsx guide. Word Not Allowed guide is more for Nvidia user also Nick . But they are several tips nick stated out that really help me , basic steps to do before running fsx. I have tried them an also fallow his guide with out even having an Nvidia Card an it works smoothly more. Am still getting those 2 second stutter when speeding down the runway but i think it is because i have the window automatic update enable in my pc or something seems to be loading at the same time am speeding down the runway.

The only way to get rid of the blurries is to turn your settings down in both the FSX.cfg and the display driver. The more request for resources thrown by FSX at your CPU/GPU, the more blurries you will get.

Nice!!! Jim i was looking for something like this to compare it with my Fsx.cfg to see what am doing wrong .

Well, your system is a bit more powerful but my config is a good start. You might be able to move the LOD up a bit to maybe 6.5 and turn on Autogen but I would still be careful. The config I have works well for my system. I get great crisp clear graphics most of the time but still have issues whenever flying into or out of commercial scenery like FSDT KORD and also using real weather (AS2012). But the graphics are not blurry. The fps though are sometimes in the single digits and up into the 20's. Just bouncing all over the place until I depart and get a few miles from the airport. Then the fps continue to move up until they stop at 45/46. Even though the fps are in the single to the 20's I can travel around very fluid and can hardly see the problem. Perhaps two systems from now (6-8 years), I'll be able to have a solid 46 fps throughout my sessions with FSX.

Thanks for making me your friend....

Best regards,

Jim
