March 13, 201313 yr Hi all, Looking for any real world NG pilots or people in the know! What are certain airlines cost index entries? Thanks Greg Marshall Windows 10 x64 | i7-6700K Skylake 4.2 GHz | 16GB DDR4 2133MHz | 750W PSU | GTX 970 4GB | Asus Z170 PRO Gaming Motherboard | H80i V2 CPU Cooler | Cooler Master Silencio 652S Case | Asus 23" Frameless Full HD Monitor | 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD for OS & 2TB Seagate HDD for FSX
March 13, 201313 yr Welcome to AVSIM! I believe the cost index used often depends on the specific circumstances of a flight, but there is this thread. I have not confirmed its accuracy.
March 13, 201313 yr Jet A costs are pretty high these days. So CI's will be low. I see most US airlines using 35 and under. It all depends on the trip and fuel purchasing armaments they have. Safe & smooth flying, Clarke Ramsey
March 13, 201313 yr BA use 28 for SH quite alot and they can use 0 for Atlantic crossings but depends on many factors, type of trip, cost of fuel, wind conditions etc Elliot Westacott
March 13, 201313 yr Just remember some airlines have fixed cost indexes and some don't. Off the top of my head Air Canada and Alaska Airlines get their cost index from dispatch and it depends on a few factors.
March 13, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the replys guys, been a great help! March 13, 201313 yr Can someone explain why CI is so important to know? Ballpark isn't enough? Matt Cee
March 13, 201313 yr It changes how fast the plane will complete the trip but also how much fuel will be used so I presume airlines are using lower and lower index ratings to save money in fuel. If a plane is running late it can increase the index rating to arrive more on time. (With the side effect of using more fuel) C Parker
March 13, 201313 yr Commercial Member Can someone explain why CI is so important to know? Ballpark isn't enough? Same reason some simmers want their 737s to have the same seat count / empty weight as the one the airline they're flying has, probably. Kyle Rodgers
March 13, 201313 yr A usual number at my outfit is 12-15 for the 737. Although, depending on the circumstances, it can change quite drastically. It's always printed at the bottom of the flight plan here. Name available upon request
March 13, 201313 yr http://forum.avsim.net/topic/401146-cost-index-explained/ Cost index is explained pretty good here by Boeing. Shows lots of different uses for various CI for different aircraft. It's up there with knowing the winds aloft for a certain flight on a certain date. It changes. You'll get there a little faster or slower. Matt Cee
March 13, 201313 yr That's the what is CI? not the why is SO important to some? Immersion. It is the same reason that the 737NGX has replaced the PMDG's 737 on FS9 and the same reason people bought the FS9 version when there was a perfectly good 737 supplied free. For some simmers, some of the time, the closer you can get to doing exactly what your real world counterpart would do, and the closer the results of your actions match the results the real world pilot would expect in the same circumstances, then the closer what you are doing is to reality and the more satisfying it becomes. I agree with this, for most simmers out there you want to fly the aircraft as it would be flown in real life!
