March 19, 201313 yr I have Photobucket and Flicker accounts that I already use for uploading screenshots,So if it's easier for Avsim to work that way,I'm fine with it. ....and Thx for asking :Big Grin: 100%75%50%d8a34be0e82d98b5a45ff4336cd0dddc Patrick
March 19, 201313 yr I've always externally hosted my images. Big reason for that is I find it annoying when this site's images expire and don't show up in older threads anymore. So one 'yah' from me towards the change. B)
March 20, 201313 yr I pretty much uploaded all my stuff to Photobucket anyway since I post the same screenshots on multiple forums, so this one I don't have a problem with. I would think most people were doing that already anyway, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue. Twenty screenshots should be fine. I think Aharon's suggestion of fifty is just pushing it. March 20, 201313 yr Im not sure if everyone is able to host their own pics. I, for one, dont even know the first thing about hosting. Gideon
March 20, 201313 yr Guys I think just linking images is a great idea and use an excellent site for this no loss of quality no muss no fuss http://tinypic.com/ Rich Sennett
March 20, 201313 yr Im not sure if everyone is able to host their own pics. I, for one, dont even know the first thing about hosting. Gideon Quite simple, actually. You get an account with a website like Photobucket or Imageshack, upload the pictures there, and post the link here. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. March 20, 201313 yr I have an account at SmugMug and it is incredibly easy to use. Provides a Share option that lets you select a photo from a SmugMug folder, click on Share, then select Get a Link. You click that, then come back here, click the Image icon, and paste the link into the bar that is presented. It's that easy. If that reduces Tom's space overhead it might even speed up this web site. Is that the case Tom? The only down side I can think of is if a storage site goes down or out of business, or if a member here closes an account on a 3rd party site, the images will cease to appear here. That would be an issue considering how valuable a resource the Avsim forums are to most if not all of us. March 20, 201313 yr I usually host my own images, if it helps AVSIM i don't see why not stop hosting images. March 20, 201313 yr Author Guys, let me set some assumptions straight... First, we have always removed images after 90 days. Remote hosting images at say Google would not cause us to delete them. We are not looking to NOT host images. We are responding to a suggestion that gives you more control over your images, their size, etc. If we were to do this, we would shut off uploading to this forum and we would force remotely hosted images displayed here to a maximum size that does not cause you to have to slew your browser from right to left to see the entire image. Click on the image here and it will show the full size image in a different window. Though we would certainly allow more images to be posted than 10, it certainly would not be 100. We still have load times on the reader's display to be considered. I hope that clarifies some possible misinterpretations.
March 20, 201313 yr 1024x576 or 1280x720 something that allow flexbility and balance. size should be limit in size, host on image shack before hated it, it gave my laptop a virus. Photo Bucket and flicker okay thou.
March 20, 201313 yr one thing I forgot to mention in addition to my previous post is that the new rules should have screenshot size limit of 1024x800 with freedom of leeway to allow up to 1200x 900 for error margin. Any screenshot over 1200x900 will be deleted. Aharon The problem I have with that is: 1. No one runs FSX at such low resolutions so images get downsized and don't look as good which can defeat the purpose of trying to show how good something looks 2. If the image is being link to another site, that site serves the data not AVSIM and hence should NOT slow down AVSIM 3. When trying to demonstrate a problem, re-sizing the image can remove the problem or make it difficult to see
March 20, 201313 yr Personally I had no probs with the old rules. In fact, I consider them pretty good. I neither want to post more than 10 images, nor do I want to browse thru them. What I can't express in 10, I can't in 100. Hosting on AVSIM was pretty easy. I liked that feature. --------------------------- Blue Skies, Gottfried www.blueskyscenery.com

I'd like to see the present system maintained because I find the forum's integrated attachments function quick and simple to use. Having to upload pics to another site first and then get them into posts isn't nearly as convenient. So how about a compromise? If you want to attach more than 10 pics, or pics larger than the forum's maximum specs, or you don't want your images deleted from your posts after 90 days then link them from an external site. However, if you just want to quick-and-dirty put a few pics into a post and don't give a hoot about size limitations or your images' shelf-life, then use the existing attachments functionality.
