Majestic Q400 Cold-Dark Startup

Featured Replies

I am not sure if this has been asked before so if has plz forgive for double post, but is there a option to start the Q400 as cold dark or not fully booted up as it currently is?  I start my sim with default all off option with Cessna but when select q400 its already up and running and only left to program the fms and start engines.

However, it's worth noting that the aircraft as first encountered is as a flight crew would receive it - powered up on ground power waiting for the flight crew to start prep. That's more realistic than cold and dark, unless you're a ground engineer.

Cheers,

How do you save it?  Don't say you can simply save the FSX flight because that doesn't work, i have configured my startup flight to be with everything off and still the Dash "wakes up" with batteries on, etc. I'm not surprised, since most of the simulation takes place outside FSX, but there should be a way to save the state.

That's strange, Nuno, because that's exactly what I did successfully. I loaded the Q400 at KDEN, turned off all power and made sure all relevant switches and controls were set to OFF and down, and then saved that situation as a flight.

When I load that saved flight, everything is cold and dark, and the loadout is just as it was when the saved flight was created. I can't imagine why that procedure wouldn't work for you.

Does it still load like that after closing and restarting FSX? I had the same result as you, but I haven't tried it again yet after restarting FSX.

I have also done the same with success. Granted, it took me a while cause I 80% of the time get a crash on exit with FSX that I have not been able to solve for over a year now.

All I do is change the location after I load my flight and I am good to go.

I've got 2 saved files at different airports with a cold and dark Q400 now. It works fine for me.

Ok, it probably saves additional variables to the flight. I will check it, thank you!

Saving panel state with simple FSX "save flight" should work. I've seen it not working some time ago but it was fixed before the release. The workaround was : load the saved flight again.

Hey, Samdim, what about those lovely Russian aircraft for FSX *hint* *hint* :P

Same here, Dave, and yes, it's working after multiple restarts of FSX. I'm also fortunate to not have any crashes on exit with this aircraft.

Hi Guys,

To re-iterate what Dimitri said, the Saving of a scenario works quite well.  there was a period where at times it would not, which we rectified.

Here are the steps that i take (loading a default FSX aircraft is not necessary)

1. Load the Dash at the airport of your choice (time of day, wx conditions, etc.)

2. Turn-off the switches which would put the Dash in a cold and dark state, whether it be for an "originating" or  "receiving" state.

3.  Save the Scenario and name it some like "MJC Q400 C&D"

4.  Close the Sim, and restart or load a different aircraft preferably and FSX default, and then re-load the Q400.

This should work.  I have several states mainly for airports that I fly out of, and I have a "Engines started - ready to taxi" state as well.

Awesome, thanks guys.

IIRC though, saving (changing) the "DEFAULT" FS scenario, other than the Trike, can have serious consequences with other aircraft, especially the NGX.

It wasn't hard to put the aircraft in a complete C&D state, i don't know why developers don't do this sometimes, like on the MD-11 or JS41 or the Dash now.
