April 22, 201313 yr Commercial Member As it was noted before, Cold and Dark is not the state in which real pilots usually find the plane they will fly. It's more for ground crew, so I don't understand why everybody is so eager to have it. The initial configuration is completely set by the MJC systems, so the one you have by default is the one we consider the most realistic for an airline pilot. @@nuno : a little visit to samdimdesign.free.fr maybe ?
April 22, 201313 yr The tutorial says to load the sample flight but I do not see a flight in my saved flights for the dash-8. I was wondering if there is one that came with the a\c? JeffG Jeffrey Gerbert
April 22, 201313 yr Yes the three files required are located within the FSX\simobjects\airplanes in the actual majestic dash 8 folder. They're then locate within the docs folder, just copy and paste the situation files into your user documents flight simulator x files directory Gavin Price

Well, this certianly makes sense. However, shouldn't the control locks be on if this is the case? Also, the aircraft is powered, so the position lights should be on as well? I would also expect the GPU to usually be connected to reduce the battery drain, but am not too sure how big an issue that is in the real world. I know I'm being a bit pedantic, but it doesn't seem quite right. Eric Szczesniak

What I don't understand is modelling an aircraft to such depth that all the switches and dials are fully functional, and then being confused why people would want to actually flip them on and off. If a customer is going to just hop in an aircraft that is 80% running when they start, why model the plane to such excruciating detail? I'm still watching these forums to see how everything shakes out before making my purchase, but a cold and dark aircraft is certainly a big step towards having the opportunity of enjoying the aircraft systems to their fullest. - Aaron
April 25, 201313 yr I'm afraid I don't understand the cold and dark craze either. If you want it, save a flight. And, even if you don't do that for whatever reason I can't quite fathom, I don't see how not starting from cold and dark prevents one from interfacing with the aircraft systems. You should be checking systems anyway as part of the receiving aircraft flow and checklist. Just because you have the ability to hop in the plane, select engine 2 and press start doesn't mean you have to--or even should, if realism is what you're after. My two cents.
April 25, 201313 yr I've got 2 saved files at different airports with a cold and dark Q400 now. It works fine for me. I've about 12 now at different airports and will probably go up. Denis the Menace
April 25, 201313 yr Actually, at first I was waniting a C&D state too, but to be honest, it makes a refreshing change from the NGX, which I always start from C&D and perform all the relevent checks. Nice to know someone else has done all the work for me. Although I fail to see how it would be a big deal to implement this as an option in a future patch, if only to offer it to those who want it. April 25, 201313 yr I set up my saved c&d at a small remote airport then move it to my departure airport. Mark CYYZ
May 3, 201313 yr Hmm strange...I parked the plane at EDDH and turned off all the systems and saved that flight for my C&D state, but when I load it the plane is on and everything is running. I don´t know what I am doing wrong, also the saved flight from the advanced tutorial doesn´t seem to load either. I put the files into my Flight Simulator X Files directory, but when I want to load that flight, I can´t find it anywhere. I am using the german version of FSX, maybe there is a problem with the fact that the directory for the saved flights is called "Flight Simulator X-Dateien"? Oliver Donner
May 3, 201313 yr Hello Eraser ! Regarding the saved situation: you have to load t twice to make it work. Of course it shouldn't be like that. But it works if you load it twice. Cheers.

Actually it's not 80% running, in fact it's just the bat that's on. At minimum, the control lock should be on, position lights on and nose wheel steering off. It's not a true "receiving condition" at the moment. Eric Szczesniak
May 4, 201313 yr I fail to see how/why a plane this involved was released without an option in the configuration manager to start it cold and dark. I would have thought beta testers would have brought that up right away. It seems like a very small thing to add that would make a lot of people happy, myself included. To me it is like buying a luxury car without a very standard feature, like power windows. Please add this in the future! Please! :smile2: Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!

While I don't find it too much of an issue, I would nevertheless like the option to start from C&D. I hope the devs include this option in an update.
