Q400 frames Vs NGX

Featured Replies

Hi fellas, I've just got my grubby little hands on the new Q400 and like most others, I find it stunning! However, most opinions I've read on the forum have all said how the frames are better than the NGX and some have reported that they are substantially better. Sadly I do not have that experience. I would say the frames are more or less identical to the NGX, which is a shame, because the reported framerate benefits was one of the many influencing factors in my decision to buy. Of course this is rig dependent and for some reason I am experiencing poorer frames than many others. I don't get hung up on frames over smoothnes, but nevertheless I was wondering if there is something I should know? BTW, I have gone through the options panel. Cheers...

Did you restart your computer after install? For some reason this works best for me when I install new scenery/addons.

Howard, you are running a mighty resolution on that 30" monitor. What AA settings are you using?

I have a 27" rated at 1920X1080 and use AA 2X2 and 2XSGSS now. I have half refresh rate forced in Inspector and run at 30 locked in sim. AF is in sim and not in Inspector. With these settings, I see an improvement over the NGX of around 5FPS in general, sometimes slightly more. For example, the Q400 runs at 29.7-29.9 in FTX Wales/EU Cardiff in OPUS FSX overcast conditions. The NGX would be around 24 in the same scenario...

My PC is an [email protected] with a 2Gb GTX670 running off 8Gb 2133MHz DDR3 RAM...

Thanks fellas, Andrew, my settings are the same for both aircraft. I'll take a closer look later today...

I had a similar experience, I was excited to hear the frame rates were an improvement over the NGX which has been sitting in my hanger for a very long time due to frame issues.  Yet, at first, although better then the NGX markedly, I still had frame rate issues.  Then when I closed GSX since it doesn't work with the plane anyway, my frame rates were smooth and satisfying.  It could be another addon conflicting with yours as well.

Funny you should say that Fritz, because I have been having severe graphical spiking at FSDT's CYVR with both the NGX and Q400, which has made me think whether it could be a symptom of GSX. I think I will try uninstalling just to see if there is an improvement.

Hi Graham, sure, I don't get hung up on framerates, but I do if there is what appears to be an inconsistency with everyone else.

Hi Dave, that's not what I want to hear matey! As a matter of interest, maybe you can help. How to load the plane in a C&D state. At the moment it just loads with half of everything running...

I can't compare to the NGX, but I get better performance frame-rate wise from this plane than I do for some of my GA addon planes.  While checking it out, I raised my frame lock from 35 up to 60 on a quick low altitude loop around Orbx PAKT (stock PFJ, not the addon, but my personal favorite place to try out a new plane!), and it held 60 fps with very few dips below that.

Everyone's mileage varies of course, but the reports of good fps didn't disappoint at all for me.

That said, I plan on flying this plane to smaller strips where i doubt i would have a problem with frames regardless!

Make sure you have affinity mask in your fsx.cfg file the q400 runs on the cpu core not used by FSX.

Thanks Andre, sure I have AffinityMask=14  BTW, I've just tried uninstalling GSX and there's not a jot of difference!

I'm another that has identical FPS.  I would say, for the most part, we can chalk it up as new product fervor.  My FPS are excellent in both.

Hi Zach, at last! I'm not alone
