Do You txt while walking or driving?

It seems to me like a design flaw if someone is able to fall between two subway cars.

In New York and Toronto Subways there is a telescopic gate to prevent people from falling between two cars, The Toronto design is the better one:

we sure need that now! :good:

I don't even use the hands-free phone feature in my car anymore.  I used to, but I'm convinced by the studies that show that it's as much a distraction as using a handset (and more than talking to your passenger - the absence of visual cues seems to make a difference).  The fact that I don't puts me in the minority among my business associates but I don't care - I'd rather be unavailable for a while today and still among the living tomorrow.

Were you the guy that posted once about getting a conviction for drinking and driving.... and expecting sympathy?

Apologies if it was not you (the person I refer to also had the same flag image in their signature, that you have).

Whilst your trying to stay 'usefully neutral' on the subject; what on Earth is the point in even representing a viewpoint that texting while driving "may be safe" or "may be ok"??

...... that is downright stupidity. There are young and impressionable people, and "overly liberal" posts like yours serve absolutely no useful purpose, and do nothing but harm.

Texting, while driving - let's say it again:- Texting, while driving .

...........are you for real????

If I were in charge (thank god I'm not), anyone found doing this would be in the slammer for a month.

Ok, tell me difference between texting while driving, and lets say talking to your passengers while driving? Why first one is offense and second one is not?

Btw, yea, I'm waiting conviction for driving under influence of alcohol, I'll let you know outcome

I'd assume because you can talk to your passengers and still look where you're going... I wouldn't see anything inherently dangerous with talking while you're driving as long as you're still paying attention to the road...

Are you sure you're not waiting conviction for driving whilst under aged?  There is a time when you should recognise when to shut up. Or to put it another way, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

It's illegal in the UK to even hold a mobile phone whilst driving and carries a penalty if you're caught.

I wouldn't walk along and text. It annoys me when I'm walking down the street and have to avoid people who are too busy texting to realise they're about to walk into me. Pickpocketing and particularly phone theft is rife in the area around where I work anyway so I try to avoid having my phone out in the street for that reason.

We have 5 penalty points for holding a phone over here, a €120 fine and mandatory court appearance. I think it's going up to 6 points though soon...

I'm a delivery driver, and I have very valuable things I deliver, and people texting while doing either walking or driving is dangerous period. That is a very bad habit, and I myself had to break myself from doing that as I do not want ot damage the goods I transport or harm anyone else! To me I mostly see women doing it, not trying to be sexist but is just an observation from work. If you feel the need to text or talk on the phone pull over, or take seat somewhere and handle your business, that is the safe and only way to prevent incidents like this one from happening!

Actually, there is a point to made here relative to driving - though we're getting a bit far afield from the original topic. The root issue is really distracted driving. We, as a society, tend to pick off obvious, avoidable and unnecessary activities that clearly lead to high levels of distraction while operating motor vehicles, like driving under the influence and texting, and make them illegal, but the list of punishable offenses certainly doesn't cover the whole gamut of things that shouldn't be done or should be done in a considered manner. I certainly wouldn't include casual in-car conversation in this list, but there are times when a driver should probably tell their passengers to "button it", just as there are times for a sterile cockpit.

Most people take driving - one of the most dangerous things we do in our lives - far too casually.

You can look where you are going while texting too. I think there is a same amount of distraction between these two.

Well, maybe I can dig all way down to other part of the world.

Was it?  You seemed to be saying that it was OK to text because it's OK to talk.  I'm saying exactly the opposite.

I DON'T think it's OK to text and drive, and while I don't consider in-car conversations at the same level, I'm suggesting there are times when prudence suggests 100% focus.

You would be sadly wrong... Each glance down to text at 55mph you pass about the distance of a football field. As a motorcyclist I wish I could kick in the windows of drivers I see texting as I pass them... Half of them veer into your lane, don't look before changing and are just ignorant to the fact that there is anyone else on the road altogether. In there own little world until they shatter someone elses world by taking a life.

Just google Texting Driver kills Motorcyclist... Or here I will do it for you since you are so busy digging...http://bit.ly/13zUHIG

In-car conversation is just an example, I could pull out any other distraction activity. And, yea, I tried to point that there are a lot more distraction activities not punishable by law, but obviously, you made a better job as native english speaker.

I'm gonna disagree with you. Motorcyclists suicide themselves because of their reckless driving: Speeding, overtaking a convoy of vehicles, cutting corners, driving between lines, driving without proper suit and helmet, driving on rear wheel. Personally, I take as much distance from every single motorcyclist as I can because they are unpredictable.

And when this guy die, you will blame texting drivers as usually.
