a few weeks ago a young girl in my city died (electrocuted and dismembered) because she fell in-between 2 subway cars instead of walking inside the car, her head and eyes were focused on her iphone

MONTREAL - Dozens of friends of Audrey-Anne Dumont, the 20-year-old woman who died after falling on the metro tracks at the Monk station on the morning of April 19, assembled Friday outside the station to honour her memory.

The coroner is investigating claims that the young woman fell onto the tracks between two metro cars because she was distracted by her cell phone.

The woman’s body was dragged through the tunnel and recovered at the Verdun station.  Her parents have reported that they believe she fell because she was busy tinkering with her phone and did not look at where she was going.

Walking yes, But ensure I keep a good eye out for whats around and avoid it while around busy roads and other locations that require attention. Driving NO! and I have not even considered it. I don't even see how anyone could possibly do both those tasks at the same time.

And that's really sad what happened to that girl. What a horrible way to go.

It's very easy with standard keyboard.

OK, sorry. I take it then that you've tried it.

I don't even "text" while sitting. The only "text" messages I receive are notices from my bank (which I asked for) and some occasional "SPAM" texts...

Like driving, multi-tasking with a smartphone is one of those things that almost everyone thinks they're good at.  And like driving, most aren't nearly as good at it as they think they are.

I'd tend to think, that we are all guilty of doing some very dumb things through out our live's. It's seem's so sad and unfair that some of us have to pay such a heavy price.

In Ireland we all got scared off driving/walking and testing at the same time a number of years back by extremely graphic TV ads depicting accidents... Thought there's also a current campaign underway again, though less graphic...

Here's the current one running on TV:

The older one is probably a bit too graphic to post, there was a number of complaints when it was shown on TV, but road safety has certainly increased by miles since they started the campaign...

I don't text at all (or at very rare occasions), but I watched people doing that, they said it's easy after little bit of practice, they do not even take a glance to cellphone, it's just a muscle memory. Now, with touch screen or qwerty, it's almost impossible. Is it safe? I don't know. I don't think it's more dangerous than to speak with your passengers, smoke, drink (water), eat, do manicure, nose-picking while driving.

I don't own a cell fone or a smart fone, but I frequently see this going on in cars while riding my motorcycle and it worries the heck out of me. Now the stupid State of Colorado has legalized pot -  so throw that into the mix!

Texting, while driving

Were you the guy that posted once about getting a conviction for drinking and driving.... and expecting sympathy?

Apologies if it was not you (the person I refer to also had the same flag image in their signature, that you have).

Whilst your trying to stay 'usefully neutral' on the subject; what on Earth is the point in even representing a viewpoint that texting while driving "may be safe" or "may be ok"??

...... that is downright stupidity. There are young and impressionable people, and "overly liberal" posts like yours serve absolutely no useful purpose, and do nothing but harm.

Texting, while driving - let's say it again:- Texting, while driving .

...........are you for real????

If I were in charge (thank god I'm not), anyone found doing this would be in the slammer for a month.

I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.

:LMAO:  :LMAO:
