New Flight Simulator

hmmmm....from a computer illiterate, aside from the wonderful insanity of the project, i was wondering if, due to the explosion of new tech discoveries these days, is it possible that what you may design, might become redundant even part way through the project....can something like this be designed with a foundation capable of supporting these potential new innovations in the future.....

So true!  However, if this group pays close attention to the big trends:  64bit, multicore (unlimited!), multithreaded, offload to GPU & DirectX11/12, etc, AND establish a killer core, IT WILL have a potentially longer service life than FSX has because of the much greater headroom in those features than in what FSX could exploit (reduced down basically to clock speed!).  Nothing lasts forever, but that shouldn't stop anyone who wants to try to exploit the scope of modern hardware.   Whether these folks or whomever can get the magic right, remains to be seen.  But geez, they have so much to work off of--they have FSX as a model of features that will matter for example, and a 3rd party community already exists.

I am surprised this was not introduced in a Kickstarter format if its far enough along for general discussion.

multicore (unlimited!

This is something that is quite impossible to manage at least so, that simulator runs well with just few cores and lets say a dozen. For something like cryptocraphy, some other scientific stuff or pure graphics processing, where whole process is bunch of small similar calculations all calculated in similar manner and time and not necessarily requiring synchronization, it is achievable. With game software, to make it work, you need to stick with bunch of threads calculated in certain manner.

Something like FSX with additional cores helping with terrain......

Or something like XplaneX

DirectX11/12

There's no DirectX 12 to my knowledge...

DCS is still valid, along with FBMS, as FSX aint no combat sim and never will be, and that includes VRS TacPack etc.

I see the want to be lawyers are out in full force.

Regardless of your helpful contribution, there is a potential problem for anyone developing a new simulation that uses a 3rd Party's property.

What, the original idea of a new flightsim?

or

The posters attempting to be armchair lawyers?

What?  You don't get your legal advice on flightsim message boards?  Seems like a great place for legal advice.

I am dealing with probate court right now,  I am going to post a thread on here for advice.
