So....what are the advantages of going dx10 again? I tried it out but reverted because I was getting too many flashes and didn't see much improvement over dx9.

Improved stability? Improved FPS? Better lighting?

Thank you.

If you followed all of the instructions to the letter and took your time setting things up, the advantages are completely obvious.

"Improved stability? Improved FPS? Better lighting?"

Yep. All of the above. And tons more.

OmniAtlas: When you have an issue, such as many of your fellow flyers here occasionally have - put you system specs into your Avsim profile, so that we can all see what you have to work with, and then include your fsx.cfg, attached to the post as "Omni_fsx_cfg.txt". Use the "More Reply Options" at bottom-right to do this - and then post/publish a screenshot of your Nvidia Inspector settings, on a free photo-sharing site, such as www.mediafire.com or www.photobucket.com - and there are many more.

No-one here appreciates someone who will complain about DX10, when they haven't done their "due dilligence". You've posted twice in the DX10 forum, plus this post, and in neither asked for help, merely complained that "it didn't work for me". Both Ualani, above, and HawkDSL, (in post 24), here gave you the true answer to your problem.

We can fix 99% of your DX10 issues for you, if you give us the chance and show a little positive spirit. OK? It's not hard - sometimes it might take a few days/posts, or a Teamspeak/Teamviewer session, but FSX works in DX10 mode, better than it does in DX9. Steve has fixes for just about everything now, and I suspect he's just putting documentation and presentation together at this moment, with little else left to do!  Give yourself a chance.

All the Best,

Hmm... if I understand correctly, Steve's application will make the transition DX9 - DX10 easier?

It would be cool to finally try DX10!

All the Best,

That post you quoted was a few months ago Paul. Obviously things have changed since then, I am giving DX10 a chance again, especially with this new tool.

I don't know why you have the impression I don't have a 'positive spirit' - perhaps not so much a few months ago, but that was back then and not now.

So, do those 99% include the addon AES? Does it include the grey runway problem of Aerosoft airports? I am currently running my FSX on DX9 with almost exclusively AES supported airport sceneries plus Switzerland Professional. I have FSDT airports (seem to be ok in DX10) and FlyTampa airports (Dubai, St. Maarten) and so on. I use UT2 with already quiet a lot of custom added repaints, together with the FAIB models. Furthermore, I use Nick's guide for the FSX.cfg and nVidia Inspector settings. For me, switching to DX10 is only a option if those points are working:

1. AES support is working. I do not want to have grey/white AES vehicles during dusk/dawn and night. Same goes for AES Lite on many airport sceneries

2. UT2 is a must. Same here, grey/white airplanes is a no-go for me. Shadows have to be enabled as well.

3. My addon planes must work. I have QWSIM Avro (should be fine) and PA, as well as Thomas Ruths and Overland Planes. Flight1 BN-2 etc.

4. Sceneries I have must work. I do not wan't to disable sceneries by switching to DX10.

5. I use 8xS anti-aliasing with 16xAF and I do not want to reduce my image quality by switching to DX10.

6. I do certainly not want to spend money on strange conversion tools where I have no idea what they do to my files

That's the point. I have my FSX now configured that I get a steady and smooth 30 FPS in almost any scenario, except high AI loaded sceneries such as EGLL or VIDP. Even there I get 20-22 FPS in a more or less smooth way. So, as performance is basically not an issue, I still see no need to switch to DX10 as long as those 99% are not absolutely true...

Sounds like you are perfectly happy with DX9 therefore DX10 should be of no further consideration in order to meet your needs, standards and requirements. Some people only drink Coke and some only drink Pepsi. Its all personal preference. At the moment, DX10 is a compromise within the FSX experience. Come to think of it, compared to what DX10 offers, DX9 is now a compromise as well. To each his own and I'm glad that you're happy with what you have.

+1 You are happy with DX9 and has set your own bar . Enjoy that .

The rest of us likes to reach out and raise this bar even further but is also paying the price during this developement (thank god)

All very well put.

DX9 certainly has had it's own issues over the years, too, stuttering, hesitations, shimmering, and so on, with OOM's being a biggee for many folks, and I don't expect that a 2007, repaired DX10 sim should be any different. The entire graphics architecture was changed and improved with DX10, with most of the work done by the GPU itself, and so you'll find that  fsx responds to Inspector and the fsx.cfg settings quite differently to those of DX9, so there will be some experimenting to do. It's not a case of reading Nick's guide, or Word Not Allowed's guide - neither work for DX10, and you don't have to read my guide if you don't want to - just read other folk's experiences here, and experiment until you've got FSX where you want it.

I haven't been involved in the Aerosoft testing, but I will go out on a limb and suggest that the Aerosoft airports will, or already are (I don't have any Aerosoft airports) fixed by Steve's product when it is released. The F1 BN-2 works without issue. Everything that has come up in my testing has been fixed. At this moment I believe it's a matter of designing an interface that is user-friendly, with a straight-forward, easy to understand manual, and then a method of security and distribution, and for this I cannot project a date. Try asking Steve on his blogsite.

Yeah I understand...this pic of the LH Maddog at Flightbeam's ksfo is just too bright, somehow... isn't it?

The first pic (included by accident) is of the FlightZone02 (FS9) KPDX in FSX (DX10). Of course - we know it doesn't work in FSX, does it? - let alone DX10....

The second two are as mentioned above.

What about AA? Has this or will this update manage to fix the lack of AA in DX10 mode?

Currently this is really the only thing holding me back.

Use Nvida inspector to force AA at the driver level infact its more efficient then Fsx's Aa

I have no problems with AA in DX10 wit ATI CCC and a HD5870 1GB.
