FSX has no cure..About to give up

And you didn't notice a difference in what? Did you have OOM's before? Or do you mean loading times? Because it can only help with those things.

Oooooo, aha. Are OOM's the same as app crashes? I did have appcrashes a looooooong time ago in specific Orbx regions but the free version of FSUIPC solved that. Never had an appcrash again. If OOM's are something different, then I never had those... ;)

And I was thinking (hoping ;) ) turning off regions might have an effect in performance. I will see if loading times are better but I have SSD's so I seldom have loading problems.

When talk of DX11 and 64bit entered into the equation.

Your sarcastic reply of 2016 wasn't in response to me saying anything about 64bit or even DX11.

They've already stated that V2.0 is the next version. No more incremental updates until then and V2.0 will be DX11 initially but not 64bit (they've pretty well settled on their forums that 64bit comes later, if at all, and won't be in the initial release).

I was simply suggesting to Dillon he check out P3D V2 before going to FSX if he's switching in 2014. I think 2.0 is out in 2014 based on two different interviews stating a 2013/2014 timeframe, comments from others on different forums, and logically concluding it's not going to take 4 more years of work to get DX11 done. If I'm wrong FSX will be there waiting for him to buy.

I've searched for anything that even suggests 2016 and can't find anything.

Hello sidh !

..... all the above comments & advices, is a proof that FSX is

  • Old Outdated piece of software
  • Big bulky behemoth.
There are way to many add-on, Hardware & software trying to improve & or fix issues... from my experience you solve one, you create two others.

If you like tech challenges & spending most of your time walk around/ fix problems, FSX is the right place for you.

If for some reason, you just wanna fly (like me), well, to a certain extend, learn to except problems (the very same tactics you use with spouses & bosses), or just quit

..... FSX is, basically, passe, obsolete ..with your HD spec, you can .probably, design the next space shuttle, but trying to 'SQUEEZE" FSX wouldn't be very cost effective ...as a RW Student Pilot I'm trying to focus an FSX advantages, & just ignore all the rest.

Hope it make sense :Peace:

Cheers

I just use FS9 looking like FSX and no issue with anything. It's just simming and enjoying all the aircraft and scenery I've bought over the years. Some of you are too good to go back to something that just works you'd rather settle for a headache because it looks better.

There's an old saying, "if everyone jumped off a bridge would you". I'm glad I didn't...

I'm glad I jumped off the bridge my friend. FSX is superb on my system.

FSX "just works" as well, for most of us. The tweaks are just that tweaks if you want them. I have no "headaches" with FSX and never have had.

You are too scathing of FSX, I presume based on no experience of FSX.

Yes, a powerful system is required. But I know one thing, I wouldn't for a second consider going back to FS9, that would be utterly bizarre.

I want to know how you guys still manage to enjoy FSX within major airports (using NGX,REX,Traffic,Complex airport-ORBX YMML,UK2000)?

In short, anyone who is getting super smooth framerates at complex payware airports, using complex payware airliners, AI, autogen, weather engines etc, and AA/AF at acceptable levels (in my case, that would be 8xS and 16x respectively) is not running FSX at maximum detail levels.

I think it depends. Some compromise has to be made but not much if your system is up to it.

For me I compromise on water (2xLow which is hardly a compromise to me), shadows, and cloud draw distance (which I mask by setting a maximum upper vis level in AS2012 so it all blends into the horizon).

Everything else is maxed out scenery wise (UT2 at 100% airline AI as well) and I have no problem flying into major hubs like KSFO, YMML, etc. I usually get around 24-26FPS in the NGX in these situations, which is totally smooth.

Heavy overcast is tough though because I run AA at 16xS and 2xSGSS.

My system is a 2 year old 2500k (overclocked at 4.6 being the key) and a GTX570, so no super computer.

Eaglesoft Citation X v2 is one of the best if not the best performing complex jet for FSX, but I think polygon count  is a very serious factor on FPS count in FSX as well, isn't it?

Dirk.

No, not polygon count... draw calls...

Then what is it? A thread like this one or FSX works without issue? I just load up FS9 and fly and it has been like this for the last five years. I'm not getting that impression from FSX users and they've resorted to feeling like problems is just the nature of the beast (hence the quote above). I've never seen a version of FS where people felt like that before. It's either one or the other. If your having these kinds of problems look for alternatives, you may have to give something up (in the case of FS9 not that much) but your doing this already. People want P3D for a reason. You can't have a thread like this and make like FSX is just awesome over everything else...

 Yeah had a lot of headache with FSX, but when the pieces finally come together and the headache wears off it's worth it. Not going back to the dark ages B)

When I finally got everything to work, FSX is just like that. Start up and fly, I don't tweak anymore. It takes awhile to get there but it's a one time discovery, don't have to reinvent the wheel everyday  So I can fly now for a decade without having to do anything with my setup...

Now your talking. Putting up with crap and never figuring things out or running something on a computer that can't handle it yet to pompus to go to something that will run on your hardware makes no since at all...

Say what? As I said when the headaches are gone and you figure out howto run FSX great then you would never go back to something as FS9(maybe a great sim but the graphics are a little outdated for me). But offcourse in the beginning I struggled a lot with howto get FSX run good, thanks to Word Not Allowed and ******* in finally made it B)

I gave up on FSX and went P3D, only to return to FSX cause, FSX addons make P3D even  more unstable than FSX.

MOst addons are not ready for P3D.

Goldeb rule i use for FSX is this, turn all sliders down, and see if problem persists, then its a real problem, else  lower sliders to settings that dont cause issue.

Also raise those mobo voltages, then help improve stability. If you got good cooling you should have some room for voltage increase. I found increasing south birdge north bridge voltages helped with crahes when loading.

My FSX is now stable @ 4.74 Ghz.

Never the less, i can confirm real pilots dont have our system management skills, not even close

Everyone has different experiences. Some even have issues with FS9. Threads like this exist (and it seems his problems have been cleared up) but there are also tons that have no major issues.

I get decent framerates at most detailed airports with my i5 2500k powered PC, but I certainly don't get 26fps when approaching UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme in the NGX with my UT2 AI set to 100%.
