July 30, 201312 yr Bottom line, if p3D is a product that suits your needs as per its guidelines, buy it. If you wish to discuss the EULA and what it meant or what they meant or whoever thought of what, what your legal views are, etc. stop!! the horse was flogged to death a long time ago. The LM team are a pleasure to deal with, I think Avsim were among the first virtual aviation sites to be granted an interview over a year ago (if not the first) when I interviewed them. It was a candid, very friendly, very refreshing chat, and I truly wish their product the very best for the future. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
July 30, 201312 yr I'm grateful LM is moving the product further along and I plan to jump in soon. If they can eventually take the lead in migration to 64-bit so that 3rd party developers begin writing for 64-bit we will all be on our way to a future w/ better upside potential. I absolutly love flying on the PC. Have been for 30 years. XPX and the future of P3D are our only hope to keep it alive it seems. Me2! It's an awesome hobby and having just built a nice machine it's even more pleasant to fly! July 30, 201312 yr ...LM's real intention The best way to understand Lockheed Martin's real intentions it to read what it actually wrote. ORLANDO, Fla., March 26, 2012 – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] released academic licensing of its Prepar3D® simulation software to immerse students in learning and problem solving. The special pricing of $49.95 makes simulation accessible to the academic community for engaging the next generations in science, math and social studies curricula. http://www.lockheedmartin.co.uk/us/news/press-releases/2012/march/lockheed-martin-launches-academic-prepar3d--simulation-software-.html The Academic EULA grants a licence to use P3D (1) on a single computer (2) by no more than one user at any one time (3) in connection with Academic Education - defined as education programs for elementary through undergraduate students in fundamental academic disciplines such as science, technology, engineering and math, including history and social sciences related thereto, but NOT in connection with professional training or certification of any kind, including, but not limited to, military training, emergency responder training, commercial flight training, private pilot training, air traffic control training, airport ground control/logistics training, driver training or nautical training Note the explicit exclusion of commercial flight training, private pilot training (4) by students, instructors and staff associated with Licensee's Academic Education and (5) in the Territory - defined as the State(s), Territory(ies), or governmental subdivision(s) thereof in which and by which Licensee is licensed, chartered or otherwise accredited to provide Academic Education. July 30, 201312 yr Discussion of the EULA for both products has been politely suggest as inappropriate here at AVSIM. Perhaps it's time for something stronger? ^_^ Gents, From now we won't allow any more comment on the legal aspect of Prepar3D.Discussing here about the deal between Microsoft and Lockheed Martin without any basis is useless and sterile.Avsim is not a lawyer school and all those groundless speculations and comments are inappropriate and out of place here. Thanks to John Nicol, we have a fantastic opportunity to interfacing with LM developers, we shouldn't waste it because of legal stuff that isn't in our hands. Thanks for understanding. David Roch Administrator Bill, clearly AVSIM needs to do something stronger. These guys just go on and on, hijacking any thread as soon as P3D is mentioned. I for one am very tired of their actions. Hopefully AVSIM will soon state their EULA policy in a manner that everyone should understand and heed. (Even "arm chair lawyers"!) Lyn
July 30, 201312 yr The best way to understand Lockheed Martin's real intentions it to read what it actually wrote. When LM requires authentication that the purchaser/user is enrolled in flight school for the professional version and will not allow me to enter my CC# until then, then I'll buy the real motivation is what the EULA attempts to define. The real reason as I say has more to do with establishing their market and game plan. The $49 student version I would respect for what it appears to be as well--a way to encourage kids to get into the hobby. I can afford $199 and as I say--they'll be more than happy to accept my payment w/o any proof that I am indeed a private pilot, training to be one, fantasizing I am one, or what have you. July 31, 201312 yr Is there a prize for thread distortion? Go over to the PMDG forum and sort my rudder pedals out
August 2, 201312 yr The way I see it, P3D has, in the FS Community, a vast number of knowledgable beta testers, that pay for the privilege of testing and providing feedback. Not so bad, really a win-win situation. LM gets a diverse group of FS enthusiastic, and knowledgeable Product Testers. Those that are currently using P3D, have an opportunity to make suggestions and provide feedback, that may get adopted into P3D, and thus are actively contributing to more advanced FS. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic develops, especially after 2.0 is released, and potentially P3D becomes significantly more advanced and stable than the current, frozen in time, FSX.
