FTX Global Released!

Featured Replies

If you can't even tell if it installed properly, then I'd say it didn't install properly.

There should be entries in the scenery library - mine has them after installing Global.

Library or cfg?

If library, can you provide a couple of samples so I can compare?

You should see some "Orbx!OpenLC" entries in the scenery library at or near the top.

I have two, one for Europe and one for Base.

Sounds like you're good to go then.

Here are some more screenies for those interested, including night lighting:

No way my installation looks as good. I'm reinstalling.

Simple way to check is just to set it to night and see if the lighting is there.

Did you guys turn off UTX lights?

Anyone getting stuff like this with Global and UTX installed? You can obviously tell where the Global textures are, and what I assume are UTX textures/changes. Not sure how/why UTX is doing this.

What Im most concerned about with this, and Im sure alot of other people are as well, but how is the performance??

How well do the textures load?

How well do u think it would run on my system?

Yes I get this too.  Unfortunately this is something we have to live with until OrbX provides replacement textures for the UTX-specific landclass textures. UTX has a few textures that default FSX landclass does not call for, therefor FTX Global has no replacements for them. I'm hoping they will add them in a later update, since UTX is such a popular product.

GEX on the other hand does include replacement textures for the UTX landclass textures.

For me performance is the same as default.

UTX takes priority because it's above what FTX GLobal has replaced (i.e. default textures). I think you need to disable them in UTX.

On another note, this shot gives a good comparison between normal night city textures and globals. Globals looks really good with the lighting and darker look. Much more realistic.

Having cities not look like a sea of throw up at night is going to be nice.

It'll run fine, I have lower specs and it works well.

Many thanks, guys. Didn't realize we'd have to do that, but I disabled them and everything looks nice again.

I do love those Global night textures and lighting.

It's lacking the wow factor for me personally, I actually wasn't sure if GEX was still on or FTXG in the Chicago area. I need more time with it. I guess it's worth 90 bucks to have the whole world coverage. Like I said, I need more time but the first impression wasn't jaw dropping by any means.

Interesting.  If it performs as well as FTX AUX areas I'm in, but if it's a hog, forget it.  Not going back to sluggish performance!
