FTX Global Released!

The beta testers were so busy kissing the ground that John Venema walks on that they forgot to look at their computer monitors!

It seemed to me that the product was in beta less than a week, lol.

Today's buyers are BETA tester (not only from Orbx), why would they release a finished and fully tested product, who's fault?

Doesn't really interest me one bit, more into the flying than gazing at the ground...

I'd have never owned a real plane, if I wasn't into gazing at the ground. Computer generated IMC & the runway at the end of all that gray mass, is much cheaper than ownership..... if thats the type of flight you prefer.

Or maybe none of them simply used DX-10, after all majority of simmers still use DX9.

I use Prepar3D which is DX9 and FTXG looks and runs great!   :yahoo:

Hmm then thats a no-buy for me. I thought they stated it was DX10 compatible?

+1 - disappointing :-(

Can we see any screenies of the UK, and Europe?

Shortly after take-off from EIDW Dublin International Airport. with FTXG running on top of UTX Europe.

Personally, for flying in the British Isles, I find the FTXG textures to be a vast improvement over GEX which I've been using up until now.  It finally looks like the British countryside rather than some tonally wrong approximation.

But they said it was DX10 compatible, you should at least test what you advertise.

As I said earlier, I got up early to buy buy buy! ....... At the moment, I think I'd rather spend the $90 on MegaSceneryEarth states with 25% off! ...... yeah I know! ...... that wasn't today's plan.

But distinctly underwhelmed by the screenshots so far.    Hopefully some cool ones will follow.

I totally agree with this! Again, I'm a photo real guy to begin with so maybe a little biased there. But, I was hoping to use this to fill the gap in areas that I don't have photo real. To me, there isn't enough of a difference to warrant the ~$100 price tag. It looks better. Sure. But not $100 better. I'd rather get some FranceVFR areas instead(I already have SimSavvy for the US).

Exactly!

I don't have any negativity towards the brand, I was never ousted from their forum, or hold some vendetta.

I was just really eagerly awaiting this "DX-10 compatible" product, got it on release day, waited patiently for the server download and install only to be crestfallen when I saw the world covered in black squares.  I am not angry, just let down because I built up my expectations.

I even gave them the benefit of the doubt, and assumed I was missing a texture.  So I did a full FSX/accelleration repair, reinstalled shaders, deleted junk files, disabled traffic, etc... which took 2 hours into the wee morning just so I could fly this new product, and nothing changed.  When I saw others reporting this same problem, I knew that my fsx install was not the problem.

Like I said, not angry, just disappointed.  Frankly this seems like a rookie-type blunder, given that one button click would have exposed the problem.

The textures look absolutely gorgeous otherwise, but the black squares are killing it for me.

Yeah that's true. Anyway I think they are probably going to fix that problem soon enough, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be possible to get those lights work with DX10 too...

I have no idea how simple replacement ground textures would be incompatible with DX10. If they worked for the default, they should work for FTXG. Then again, I have nothing to do with this product other than as a customer, so maybe something went haywire...

It's not the textures. It's the night lighting. The black boxes are where the lighting would be at night.

I installed it in the morning and I have this night lightning problem too. I don't want to switch to DX9 because it makes FSX crash or OOM always.
