There is an answer from Nick

Featured Replies

Quit whining, NickN. It's called competition.

You guys might have had better luck, for me anyway, if you hadn't required folks to buy two non-North America regions in order to get the updated textures a while back. That was as clever an underhanded move as I've ever seen. Don't be sore just because someone has shown up at the party to give you a run for your money.

As I do not know how to changed the title of my thread and since Nick specifically said that his opinion is not a statement from Flight1 in his edited thread, I'm asking for a mod. to change the title to show "There is an answer from Nick."...thank you.

My gawd, folks...why such the 'hate-on' for Nick, for J.V.,  or for ANYBODY ELSE for that matter?!?!?!?!??

Regarding Nick, who I have never met or talked to in person. Have any of you?

1. He can say anything he wants to, as I say any of you can, without a rep-bashing, or ethic bashing tirade in the making....

2. I did not see any 'bashing' of ORBX from Nick. He stated what he sees with using the product. I do that. You do that. We all do that. No problem!

3. My name and Net rep has not been put into question on the Net. Has yours?  His has...good, bad, or indifferent. He decided to address how he sees and feels about that as he typed about whether GEX and FSXG can co-exist in tandem. So what? Sooooooooooooo What?  I read it, noted it, and moved on.

I'm here for the hobby. I'm not part of AVSIM or any other board to start giving my 'august' and 'sage' viewpoint on another Net personage. I am here to discuss and enjoy FLIGHT SIMULATION with the each of you.

Let all the verbiage and energy regarding the 'intents' and personality quirks of any developer end, folks.  Like anything we might type in this or any other forum is going to give J.V. or Nick an epiphany from your posted 'spanking-over-the-knee! They are laughing off their butts at the lot of it, just like I would! Just like you would!

C'mon folks, let's just talk about the product(s), and not personal references, attacks, or theories about the 'why' and the 'how' of someone's personality and ethics (as seen from OUR personal set-of-standards....)

The products, folks...the flight simulation products, please. Do you you like them? Do you not? Why not? What do they do for you, or what do they NOT do for your flight simulation requirements and needs? THAT IS ALL WE SHOULD EVER TYPE ABOUT HERE AND ANYWHERE ELSE! What we use. What we buy, or perhaps why we are thinking of not buying/investing in. Who knows...in responses to your concerns, you might change your mind! THAT is what forums are for...not attacks, or dressing downs...geez!

Stepping of soapbox,....

Mitch (Sesquashtoo)

My only hope is that Nick's feelings regarding Orbx translates to a desire to crush them that burns with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns; antagonism between competitors is often a powerful motivator, and consumers reap the benefits. (If I can add some hyperbolic levity to the discussion).

This thread phoned, to ask if you could just let it die.

I have read through the whole thread and am still on the edge....should I buy FTX Global? Will I see a big improvement over GEX? I guess the question is...is it worth it?

And to who ever posted that video, I want my 3 minutes back! ;-)

He does make a valid point regarding Orbx's custom landclass meaning you'll be having to use both FTXG and OpenLC or something else entirely - but the issue is, from what I've seen, FTXG looks so much better than GEX's textures that I doubt simmers are really going to care about the monopolisation.

This is what I think too. FTX Global and OpenLC should be able to provide something so superior to existing landclass and texture products that nobody will even care using them anymore when OpenLC coverage has been done for the whole world, assuming that they do it properly of course.

Personally I couldn't less care about custom landclass products becoming kind of obsolete with FTX Global, I never cared much for them anyway.

If you mostly fly in relatively green areas of the world like most of Europe and parts of the US then yes. However many dry areas look a bit messed up right now so if you fly around those you might want to wait for OpenLC packs.

Thanks for the feedback. Most of my flying is in the Midwestern part of the US, with some flights to the southwest. Thoughts?

I don't actually see any problem. At the moment, FTXG is purely a texture replacement option, and once installed it can be uninstalled very easily. It is also compatible with third party mesh and LC products. ??? So the only thing I can see from Nick's post is to do with the FTXG Open LC when it arrives. OK, so if anyone has any concerns, then they have a choice to use a third party LC product and retain the option to be flexible in respect of uninstallation etc... ??? Or am I missing something?

Well at least around Grand Canyon area and probably elsewhere in dry areas of the US FTX Global seems to cause too green textures so you might want to wait until they release OpenLC pack for North America.

Well, for one thing it breaks FinlandX which has landclass, mesh and a couple custom textures. Work just fine with GEX, but not with global..

Has this already been reported on the FTX support forum? FinlandX is one of the things I wouldn't want to fly without. It's up there with weather engines (on my list).

I ment to buy FTXG so I could do cross Atlantic flights between FTX regions (and for the beatifull night lighting), but I have to see how this turns out.

You're missing nothing! ^_^

Base on how many people support FTX GLOBAL OR GEX if Nick an John was running for president i think John might win by a long shot . Is just like a debate while John is silent he knows action speaks louder than words . An with FTX Global you don't need talk much just face the facts is way much better than GEX an  for what is worth it covers the entire world.

Lol, you make it sound like we should have a collection for him and sing 'For he's a jolly good fellow'.

He is a jolly good fellow. Oh boy, you young whipper snappers just don't get it.

And this.....is the days of our lives.

man so much drama...what happened to just posting pics and being happy as hell we even have a somewhat awesome piece of software to use for our Sim...

Well, it's like tweaking LOL

I think this post by OrbX explains what they did, why they had to do it and how they tried to minimize the damage done:

http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/59802-ftx-global-update-june-2013/

The "scrambled LC calls" Nick refers to sounds like the lclookup.bgl file.

One can only hope P3D 2.0 is able to reach a larger audience. Friendly competition among developers is good, but when flawed decisions made by the Aces team in 2004-2005 force developers to fight for control over core FSX files, it's not good for anyone.
