August 20, 201312 yr But the few example shots of water are straight up noon time shots. Would like to see how it looks at 3/4/5 o clock pm, or early morning. Lets see Big Bear and Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, San Diego and San Francisco bays. How about a late afternoon run up the coast off Big Sur. I'm sure Mojave, and the inland areas look good if they are of similar quality to my Nevada and New Mexico Version 2's, but I'm hoping the water bodies don't follow suit after my Florida Version 2. So hoping to see some screen captures soon, and crossing my fingers :Worried: Chris Strobel KSNA
August 20, 201312 yr I'm a big MSE 2.0 fan, but this is pricey for me at the moment. $99 for all of California. I absolutely love MSE 2.0 Oregon, but if I'm honest, I'm a little underwhelmed by the California screenies seen so far. Maybe I'll pick it up at some point, but I don't regard $99 for photoscenery of California as good value as getting the whole world refreshed (FTX G!) for $99. Yeah I know, totally different products; just saying. I can get around a half of California in quite good quality photoscenery, from Blue Sky Scenery - for free. So $99 is a big upgrade fee, to get the remaining half, albeit it in higher quality.

I have all of MSE California Version 1, and have overlaid Blue Sky sections over funky parts of MSE like some areas in Northern California. I've been very happy with it, have trees, night lighting, and water that looks good at golden hour. Its going to be a very hard sell for me for version two even with 40% off. I absolutely am not going to accept the water gradient banding I get with Florida and the lakes of Colorado, with my home state of California. Chris Strobel KSNA
August 20, 201312 yr I have been downloading it and hope to have it all completed today but need to do some chores first, like an oil change for my car. August 20, 201312 yr Move furniture out of rooms and throw old carpet out while this takes a day downloading. Normally fly San Diego and Salon Sea, Imperial Valley area in fsx without photoscenery and like the variety for low flyer like me California provides. Flew vfr from San Diego to Salt Lake in fsx over default scenery now all do it again with mse photoreal.
August 20, 201312 yr After puchasing 3 states of MSE v2, I'm one of the few who seem to be sadly dissapointed:-( I was SO looking forward to this release as CA has a great all round flying envirionment. I think maybe my problem is that I also have the SoCal release, and THAT is simply stunning, even at as little as 500agl. I also have a lot of France VFR, which is also very high resolution. I guess MSE v2 was never intended to be anything like these, so comparing is not good. Guess I'll save my money for something else. August 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member I guess MSE v2 was never intended to be anything like these, so comparing is not good. Yeah I think it's matter of available data too, I think for any better quality you would have to go for commercial data and that's very expensive, last time I checked even covering middle sized airport and its immediate surroundings would have costed hundreds of dollars with commercial usage license. I hope they will find a way to do something like this for Europe and parts of other continents, I don't fly in US much other than as a longhaul destination so I can't really justify buying all of these for the US as I already have FSAltitude high altitude photoscenery coverage for the US already...
August 20, 201312 yr As a frequent customer I had a direct mail card I was waiting to use. Gave me a 25% discount and good through the end of August. When I followed the email link I received for California I immediately noticed it reflected the 10% Tuesday discount. Had the initial price at $89.9X. I entered my 25% discount code and my price fell to $67.47. On another note, I must say here that the MegaSceneryEarthInstallManager (what a filename!) version 1.2 is great. I use a program named Free Download Manager to orchestrate my downloads. That is still a bit cumbersome but I can queue all of the files for download and then leave for a couple of hours while that all completes. Now the MegaScenery Earth Install Manager takes over from that point and performs the unzipping and installation, retains the install .exe files, and deletes the original .zip files. The installer is right now finishing the last of the 22 files for Northern California and the unzip and install process took just under 30 minutes. The installer has automated what formerly was a tedious and time consuming set of processes. August 20, 201312 yr To me, FSAltitude is one of the most impressive addons for scenery. I wish that their photoreal was of MSE v2 quality. If there was one thing I would wish is that MSE would have the same feature. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. August 20, 201312 yr Just recalled that I have SoCalBlueSky scenery installed. I anticipate that I will need to remove it from my FSX. Is that correct? August 20, 201312 yr I've been very happy with it, have trees, night lighting, and water that looks good at golden hour. Do MSE scenery have trees and autogen? Cheers, Sascha Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
August 20, 201312 yr Do MSE scenery have trees and autogen? No. MSE v2 does not have autogen, trees or buildings. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
August 20, 201312 yr As usual, there are deals to be had so many won't need to pay full price. If you've already purchased previous area products (like MSX SoCal) you'll likely have a coupon in your email for 40% off. As for quality, Dougal which MSE v2 states have you gotten? As I've mentioned before, these are not monolithic products where when you've seen one, you know what the others will look like. They're dependent on the imagery available and that can vary greatly. I've been very pleased with many of the states I've bought, OK with a few others and a bit disappointed in 2 of them. But the good ones are quite good. Still not sure what to do about Cali. I have and quite like MSX SoCal and have it surrounded by Blue Sky which also works fine in the south. Further north, I've not been pleased with the overly saturated colors that have previously been available, and the screen shots seem to indicate the same, er... iridescence in v2. But there's that annoying gap starting at the Salton Sea... Dunno, Scott
August 20, 201312 yr Any idea whether you can use the autogen from V1.0 with V2.0 sceneries? Would that just be a matter of moving the objects folder to the V2.0 folder? Danny Hicks
August 20, 201312 yr Any idea whether you can use the autogen from V1.0 with V2.0 sceneries? Would that just be a matter of moving the objects folder to the V2.0 folder? I've seen in another post somewhere that apparently this isn't possible. I don't own any MSE v2 so I can't comment for sure but I can't see why it wouldn't. Unless there is something special they do in the development of the autogen for v1. Maybe they use scenery libraries in v1 that aren't available for v2 or need to be made available? You could always try it. Copy them over and try. Then delete if they don't work. Are these .agn files in a texture folder? That's what I'm thinking of or used to with autogen and photoreal that I've done myself. Maybe these don't work that way? Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
