A2A Cessna 172 now available

Featured Replies

Just wanting to pass on my positive experience with the C172, after 2hrs worth of a few short hops, I ran into a couple of the bugs mentioned but overall am really enjoying the feel and immersion of it.

I had the mouse clickspots issue during one of my 7 flights (3 monitor fullscreen user, EZdock here), and I notice the the Orbx scenery ground friction problem, but otherwise this thing is a pleasure to fly, and it is working great with my RXP530.

I plan to keep enjoying it while A2A resolves the bugs, their support on the P-40 and P-51D in the past has been terrific so I have confidence they will get this right.

A good (temporary) fix perhaps would be to add an option for users to select via the config panel whether to use A2A's custom friction, or default FSX friction until they get it sorted.

Yes, that's a really good suggestion Jimmy.

More flights in, still a great number one aircraft for my sim - only 2 gripes now are:-

the door opening issue (click on right door-handle and the left door opens, and the float after a normal flare. The r/w Chipmunk floats: the r/w C172 doesn't. This one floats like the Chip.

Gotta go!

Cheers!

So it's the 172's problem, but it's more noticeable at Orbx strips.

It is got damn more than just noticeable, they have put some damn superglue to the wheels so it won't even freaking move <_<

Yes that would be great:) Right now my 172 is in the hangar catching dust.... :(

You know you could fly it on a regular grass strip or any hard surface strip for now.... while they get it sorted.

A2A seems to be having domain troubles again. Site seems to be down.

I know, but I want the challenge with sloped dirt strips, I live and breathe for those hard to get into areas and this just bugs me so I'm flying other planes now while I wait for it to get sorted(if they will ever fix this  )..

So far I have only seen suggestions that we alter the ground friction on all the airports affected, wich sounds ridicilous, and I even don't know how to do this....

Now what I wanna hear from A2A is, "yes we are aware of it and we are gonna fix it in the next patch"...

As you saw they already updated us that they are looking at ALL issues (priority being the clickspots issue) and Scott even said he is going back  up in the 172 today and recording data and to go over all the comments they have gotten. I don't know what better kind of response we can hope for here?

I said it before and I'll say it again, A2A is an honest and communicative team. They WILL fix the issues.

And for what it's worth, I do think there's something to be said about the "vocal minority" drowning out whatever positive side there may be - in my case I have done 5 or 6 complete flights and enjoyed every second of it without issue (other than EZdok compatibility which I already fixed myself.)

So to those people who skim forums every day looking at everyone else's opinions, please be aware many are enjoying the product and don't feel compelled to go to the forums to tell everyone else about that :)

Please note I am not trying to say there are not issues or people should "complain less" just to take account of ALL users and not just the ones saying "this is rubbish it's going back in my hangar."

The ground friction issue may be minor to you, but for me it has become a show stopper, and I have every right to complain about it and even get mad at it <_< I would have relaxed more if I knew that the next patch would fix it!

And no, it's not rubbish, never said that and I love alot of things about it, but the ground friction keeps me away from enjoying it no matter how much I like all the other positive things about it -_-

To quote myself from earlier to show that I have not been negative all the way, this was offcourse before i ran into the ground friction issue, as you can see I have some positive things to say about it too(I have even reccomended it too others on the Orbx forum):

Are you kidding me? This plane has soul, it has a feel I have never felt with any other addon plane(except the other A2A releases).

The vibrations when giving full throttle during runup is just awesome, the sounds, the engine feels like a real engine...the the omg. No no, you have to be kidding Also I find it more challenging to land this one compared to the default, there is just now way you can compare this to the default plane.. No way.

And they are also working on even make it more realistic quote:

"We were not happy with the p-factor and torque were were seeing in the FM, so we turned it down considerably as it was more natural to have less torque and p-factor than something that wasn't right. We are working on bringing these systems into Accu-Sim. A much nicer and more accurate torque, p-factor, and some slipstream effects coming. This is also coordinated with some new physics for the ball in the turn & balance indicator."

How does one change GPS configs in this craft?

On the fly using an ingame menu. So you can switch to any possible setup in mid air, if you want to. It's by far the easiest and quickest way of doing things I've seen so far!

It's a shame their forum is down again because I had some follow up questions for them. Does anyone here know what the question marks do in the ingame menu's? On the A2A forum someone said you should hover your mouse above them (and you could do the same above the action icons) but NOTHING shows up on my PC...

Wait a minute... while I a typing this, I think I know why that is...! I use DX10 and DX10 doesn't show tooltips so apparently also not these popup notes! Bummer... Don't want to quit using DX10 because I like the VC shadows...

Anyway, I just had my very first official complete flight with a used trainer. It was great. The sounds are really AWESOME and the best I've heard so far! Now I know more about the walk around and the hangar it's a lot more fun to use. Controlling the plane is a breeze indeed and btw not too sensitive as some say. It's quite perfect, really. Now I know that you quicly have to change trim after take off, the inital climb went well too.

I do have to get used to the DG's because I've been used to the HSI and that other VOR gauge in the Legacy that turns around automatically (forgot how you call it). Those 'simple' DG's are bit a PITA to use... having to turn them around all the time... but well, I'll have to get used to it, I guess. What I did like is the OBS on the NAV radio: great feature!!! And the ingame map is also nice, I have to say!

Landing was a lot harder than yesterday btw... This time I had real weather on and there was some crosswind: the runway was shorter as expected and I came in a bit too high so at the very last moment I aborted the landing and did a go around. But even the next landing was quite hard because the plane floats on and on and on and on... I ended up overshooting the runway a little into the grass where I got completely stuck  (FTXG scenery: does that also have problems with sticky grass?). I had to slew myself back a few meters. After that I entered the hangar and noticed the left brake was a bit worn: that didn't surprise me at all.

Anyway, after my not too positive initial reaction yesterday, I am very happy now. I notice I am keeping an eye on all the gauges everytime now which I never did before because there was no real need. The VC looks great, the view outside is better than I expected (although I am still not a huge fan of high wings) and also the glass reflection is just perfect: not too much, not too little.

One more question: you have to start the engine with the mixture pulled back and push it forward when the engine starts. This feels a bit odd because I can't do both: when I start the engine and I think it's picking up I VERY QUICKLY have to move the mouse to the mixture but this evening that resulted in the engine turning off again because I suppose I was too late... Maybe I should assign a key to the starter (is there one assigned by default) and keep my mouse on the mixture.

Oh come off it ......... must sure get lonely up on that lofty high ground

You go on as though the people who have a largely unusable plane, are just moaning whingers.   Have you tried operating your 'perfect' aircraft without using any clickspots at all?.... it sure as heck isn't possible in this product.

Small little gripes, sure, people take them out of perspective  -  major issues such as no clickspots or even an aircraft that cannot get moving from a standstill on grass strips that have the very tiniest of inclines are major dealbreakers ............

Bear in mind, two things-

  • As much as I respect Scott and A2A, this is not Flight 1 and we've all already put down our money, and got our severely broken plane, with no entitlement to a refund.
  • Scott has said (being honest, which I respect) that presently, no-one in the A2A team can reproduce the loss of clickspots that dozens of us are reporting and talking of here..... so the prognosis as it currently stands, in not positive.

I am sure that if you were in our position, you would be discussing and talking about it too, and that I dare say you would include a slight tone of disappointment.

And for what it's worth, I do think there's something to be said about the "vocal minority" drowning out whatever positive side there may be - in my case I have done 5 or 6 complete flights and enjoyed every second of it without issue (other than EZdok compatibility which I already fixed myself.)

II'm glad the minority is vocal.  It helps me make a good purchasing decision.

@Q400.  I don't necessarily disagree with you, although I wouldn't have phrased it like that, but in all fairness to Molleh, you started out this thread doing this: :im Not Worthy:  Now that you personally have run into a problem, you're flaming mad about it.   In threads on the Dash 8, King Air and other airplanes, I haven't exactly seen you be Mr Sympathetic either, so maybe you can take that constructively next time you see somebody expressing some honest dissapointment in something.  I hope you can see that observation for what it's worth without getting all defensive about it.  I think we all have to watch out, myself included, that we don't adopt the holier-than-thou attitude, or worse the "I've got mine, so *&^%& you!"

major issues such as no clickspots or even an aircraft that cannot get moving from a standstill on grass strips that have the very tiniest of inclines are major dealbreakers ............

Thanks B) for supporting my issue as a dealbreaker.

Thnx...found it:-) Didn't know there were more meus than the Alt+numbers

Edit: Apperently, Alt+3 should be that menu? My Alt+3 only makes a beeping sound, so must be something I have misconfigured at some point.
