A2A Cessna 172 now available

Featured Replies

I hate to say it, but I certainly don't think it was ready for release based on my experience.   This is an advanced simulation, an amazing product that I (will) love, but the nature of this aircraft is that it relies so much on mouse clicks in the VC, so to lose them just kills your flight.    It's A2A and it pains me to say it, but this is one of the most showstopper bugs I've had on any new release.    Sure we get used to the usual 'list' with a Carenado release, but to be fair they don't tend to be absolute "back in the hangar" showstoppers, as this one is.

Still confident they'll fix it though.

Its good plane overall, but those click spots tried to enter vor it did not respond. Otherwise, the c172 files like docile bird it is very forgiving. Like maintence hanger testing out the engine out and doing oil changes.

This has been my first A2A aircraft purchase (even though I love WWII planes, for some reason I just never want to fly them in FSX), and while it has provided me some staggeringly nice moments, and it's easy to see the potential for this becoming a truly great piece of simulation - at this time, its has become just too frustrating to fly, as I never know for sure when this VC thing will show up. My "just jump in" and hand fly routes have ranged from trouble free to nearly instantaneously dead in the water, but my heavy interaction with ATC dialogs and A2A control panels trips almost always end in VC lock out.

Some things seem like bugs, but are really just "differences" from what I expect or am used to, but this problem is a pretty big show stopper IMHO...

It seemed like it took forever to get back home from my vacation in order to get this bought & downloaded. But I did last night, and was able to take it up for a short 30 minute flight around home.

My impressions -

- I loved the walkaround.  Could of done a hour flight, but I was having too much fun in the walkaround (and then in the hangar!)

- The visual passenger selection is great.

- The majority of my Saitek stuff worked. Only thing that didn't was the battery switch, and I note above that there's appearently a fix for it - I'll have to check that out tonight.  My trim wheel is a wonderful thing to have, works great.

- I really, really loved the startup. It took a bit for me to get it to stay running, and once I ran through the mag checks, it took a bit for me to get the plugs firing again properly!  The mag check alone makes my Saitek switch panel happy as well.

- The vibration, along with the sound of the engine, is sooo sweet on startup.

- I found it very docile in the air, but was expecting it.  That said, I really didn't find that it felt on 'rails' - it seemed to float and bob through the air in a very convincing way.

- I was pretty happy with my first landing - flared nicely, and settled onto the runway.  Gently felt the rear wheels make contact, with the nose softly dropping a second later.  Felt great to me, and very intuitive.

I left it tied down and chocked, saved my flight, and I fully intend on loading it back up to carry on to my next airport.

Yes, I did notice the VC no-click bug, but not until the very end of my flight.  I wasn't using the GPS, nor the AP, so it might of been present earlier in my flight, but I didn't notice it.  I probably wouldn't of even noticed it at all if it weren't for the non-working batt switch on my Saitek panel.  It also went away immediately upon opening the FSX options panel and closing it.

So far - very, very happy.  I can understand the frustration for some however, if they have to restart FSX to get rid of that particular bug.  I am sure though that with the work they're continuing to do with the plane, that they'll address it.  I'm also looking forward to some of the features that are in the works!

I feel sorry for you guys with the VC bug  Luckily I had only some minor issues, like the ground friction, and that the flaps won't wiggle in the preflight check, other than that I having a blast an no show stoppers here B) Just can't get enough of this plane. I even enjoy taxiing around the tarmac, right now I'm on a "deer hunt" at Bonner's Ferry :P

Ok yep I'm done. Click spots not working 90% of the time, GPS not working (wont follow nav) Cabin fogs up unrealistically, power profile is off, panel lighting pretty bad. I have many hours in this real life, and was really looking forward to it. Pretty dissapointed. Am going to request a refund and revisit it down the road when hopefully the bugs get ironed out.

I noticed the steamy cockpit too. I think there is a keyboard shortcut for the defrost but I can't find it in the VC. At least in the P51 I can open the canopy in flight to clear it.

I think the canopy fogging should be an option - as it's a real problem if you fog up.

Yeah I mean Im in Dagget, CA and its 100 degrees, and the cabin starts fogging up immediately. This has never happened to me irl. Also switched to the RXP530 and now it follows nav, the 430 doesnt......hmmm

Curious if your RXP530 says "2" in the corner where then NAV and comm freqs are... I bet it has something to do with that.

It's a bummer you guys are having problems, but rest assured A2A will get it fixed up. They are one of the best developers out there and they do NOT leave customers hanging.

Once the clicks are fixed to Im good to go. Go take a nap, after waking up play with the engine some more in the hanger. A2a $50 well spent

Don't have the 172 just yet, just doing my normal window shopping.   However, I wouldn't be surprised if this VC Clickspot bug some of you are talking about is because you have your head positioned too far back via Ezdok/Opus.  Just a guess, but if you look straight down are you right up against the back of the seat or even slightly behind it?  If so you might just see what happens if you move your head forward just a bit.   That's something I would try if it were me, anyway. edit=also just noticed a simultaneous thread on 777, and tab's suggestion was the same for them

For anyone having perceived or real flight model problems:  There is a need in MSFS going way back to ensure that you start with the default flight and then load your chosen aircraft, for maximum fidelity.

Many times I have wondered why a particular aircraft has not behaved as I remembered it or expected it to, before I realised I had forgotten to load the default flight first.

It doesn't seem to always matter, but if in doubt, load the default flight and then build your situation from there.  At least then you can be pretty sure that anything you're not happy with in the aircraft is not attributable to carryover aspects of another aircraft.

Cheers

Might I suggest that those experiencing disappearing click spots go to the A2A C172 Tech Support forum and post there.

Be sure to include info on your system setup as related to multiple monitors, addon

camera utilities, etc.

It will help to identify possible common elements that could aid in coming up with a solution.

One post here made mention of having to restart FSX to regain click spots.  That sounds a lot like what I have to do occasionally

when TrackIR stops communicating with FSX. That is a problem

related to Simconnect, I believe.

While I haven't (at least yet) experienced this problem, I do have others and your comment is well-received.  One of the most daunting things about adding a new developer to your personal list of add-ons is having to move out of your normal comfort sites and into their ecosystem for support.

I've registered at the A2A forums and (attempted anyway) my first support post.  Apparently new users have to have posts approved?
