A/P disengage mute problem

Featured Replies

Dear All,

did any of you experience, that when disengaging the A/P it is not possible to mute the masterwarning beep sound? I can push the red blinking master warning button, but only the red alert disappears, the beep does not stop. Ít is very annoying, that I need to hear the very noisy beep-beep during the whole approach.

thank you in advance for your help.

My method is to right mouse click the toga screw twice, has to be about 2 sec apart. This issue comes up often.

From the Introduction Manual:

"I turned off the autopilot, but I can’t silence the alarm:"

You need to press the autopilot disconnect button on your joystick (or the Z key) twice in order to silence the alarm. Make the first press, wait a second or two and then press it again. If you double-press too fast, it won’t silence. Always use the disconnect button, don’t use the disconnect “bar” on the MCP – you’ll have the siren constantly going off if you do.

Hi Peter! Go to the FMC and find Equipment menu, here is the solution to your problem:    RESETTABLE SIREN:     Allows the Master WARNING/CAUTION siren to be reset by pushing the Master WARNING/CAUTION reset switch    Hope this helps, Regards. Norbert B)

Although mentioned in the manual, pressing Z twice didn't work for me. The first keypress would re-engage the AP, the second keypress would do nothing. The right clicks do work.

- Master warning siren/wailer doesn't turn off.

  • This is a realistic feature that is an option on the airplane. Look for RESETTABLE SIREN in the EQUIPMENT section of the aircraft options in the FMC.
  • With respect to the autopilot disconnect form of this sound, it takes two presses of the AP disconnect button/key to silence it. The second press must come at least 1.5 seconds after the first. Again, accurate to the real world airplane.

It's a realistic feature.

Press the button on the yoke to disable the audible alert;

or

Right click the hidden TOGA button on the MCP.

or

Go into your FMC aircraft options and set "RESETTABLE SIREN" to "YES"

That's a mistake in the introduction manual.

"Z" is the key assigned for the AP switch, not the AP disengage.

The key command for the AP disengage is Ctrl+Shift+"Z" (I think).

But you can change this to whatever suits you best in the CDU keyboard command options.

Correct on the 'Z'. That seems to control 'A/P' switch, which I have major issues disengaging in my 777. Not calling it a bug, omission, or glitch until I've reached that part of the FCOM, but most definitely 'Z' does not work for A/P disengage.

I had no idea about that other shortcut, but I'm now happy that I may actually map this on my controller. As an NGX driver, I'm way too used to just pulling that bar. Alarm is truly annoying ;-)

Well, everything on this world has an omission or two. Some of us did actually follow the manual (see the last few messages about 'Z') and ended up having an issue.

Now, that explains 'Z', but there are other way to silence that thing, so your comment still applies ;-)

Did you follow the introduction recommendations? Press the button on the yoke or the screw. :-)

Pressing once the TOGA button disconnects the autopilot, then wait 2 seconds and click again to silence the warning.
