Oh don't be silly Scott. I didn't say that at ALL and you know it. Are just looking to argue or what?

No, I don't know it, and no I'm not looking to argue.  Honestly.  Sorry, but when I see the "T" word used, I view it as a large hammer often used to marginalize a differing opinion.

If that's not what you meant, then fair enough - I take you at your word, and we have no disagreement.

And as to Ron, yeah... he was just helping with the grammar and spelling.

Pax,

Scott

EDIT: There's been good and OPEN stuff from BOTH sides and I for one applaud the mods for keeping it going.

An edit to your edit which I just saw:  Agreed wholeheartedly!

So, Umberto comes on here being all defensive about his product, perhaps he'd care to explain what this nonsense as per the attached images. FSDT product(KJFKv2) paid for; and activated as can be seen from the Add-on Manager Screen, and yet, look at where the AA 777 is parked. Then he wonders why this thread has generated so many posts?

Does FlyTampa do this full-time?

Just wondering.

First, this is not the FSDT forum. I can't see you as a registered user on our forum (unless you have another nick there), and I can't find any email from someone named "Rick Almeida" so, you should always contact the proper support channel to have a chance to be supported.

In order to run our sceneries, you need to have BOTH the "Addon Manager" and the "Couatl powered products" menus running.  They work together, and I thought to have explained quite clearly in my previous message that *everything* we do, is made by running Python script that controls the appearance of the scenery so, if the Python interpreter (Couatl) hasn't started, nothing will run, regardless of the activation.

Your problem is (I'm guessing) likely that something, most likely the Antivirus, has blocked Couatl from running.  There are many threads on our forum that explain how to deal with this. Please, register and post on our support forum OR send me an email, and I'll explain how to configure your antivirus to not mistakenly block our program.

So Rick, I thought I had explained how this problem can occur in my Post #73 - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/419631-i-loath-fsdts-couatl/?p=2789667.  Whenever this happens, you simply need to download and run the latest Addon Manager.  The Addon Manager was recently updated when you started up FSX and asked you if you would like to update it (without closing down FSX).  Well, I did that and I think right after that I had problems with my FSDT Scenery until I figured out all I needed to do was download and run the latest Addon Manager.  Hope this helps!

Also, your pictures are too big.  1600W is the limit and 400KB is the max for the weight of the image.  Just a friendly reminder....

Best regards,

Jim

Would some kind admin please put an E on the end of 'loath'?

Just to prove I read these threads, I'll try changing it.  It hurts my eyes too.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim

This tip and the other recommendation taken on board. Thank you.

Only AV I'm running is MSE, and the airport loaded correctly, after installing, the 5-minute Trial warning displaying, then activating it successfully, then all of a sudden my aircraft is stood on grass.

EDIT:

Now I remember why I did not follow your advice to re-install the Add-On Manager.........because of that stupid error that flags up when trying to install that Add-on Manager.

I like that.... "taken on board".

then activating it successfully, then all of a sudden my aircraft is stood on grass.

I have had buildings and jetways disappear too but found out that all I needed to do was click on the FSX Menu, open up Couatl-Powered Products and then click on Restart.  My issue in my Post #73 was that the Couatl menu in the FSX Menu disappeared too and then I started seeing several different types of crashes.  When I downloaded and ran the Addon Manager again, my FSDT airport was back to normal and the Couatl menu was also back in the FSX Menu.  I guess this is just something you have to check if and when you ever see an anomaly with a FSDT airport.

Not sure what this error could be.  You should be able to install the Addon Manager anytime you want.  I might have missed something.  I was looking in previous posts here and did not see what the error message stated when trying to install the product.

Hang in there!

Best regards,

Jim

There it is again, the whole "I don't care if you lose out to stealing, I want what i want and i want it now" routine. A typical consumer response from someone that is not on the receiving end of lost sales and seeing their work on torrent sites. You want no DRM, do something to stop piracy other than complaining about inconvenience.

Point taken, but what do you want me to do? Hack torrent sites? I vote with my wallet. I've been a strong supporter of addon devs since FS2002 and have spent more money than I care to remember (better keep it a secret from the wife). I know I am way above the average spender. Why shouldn't I give feedback as a customer. I've bought their product, liked it, but didn't like the inconvenience. If it weren't for the latter I'd spend more on their products. But to FSDT that doesn't matter. They obviously do fine with their current DRM policy and are thriving. As Umberto says, they're free to do to their product whatever they want. Just wish I knew about the activation and couatl module before I bought their products. I fly offline as my computers aren't connected to the Internet for security reasons, so a lot of this online activation stuff is an annoyance. To each his own!

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Hi Jim

Will post that error flag up later as I'm in the midst of a flight with the T7. Oddly enough, I get that scenery misbehave at KJFKv2, but when I moved the T7 to KLAS, another of my FSDT Add-ons, all was okay. How weird was that? About to descend into yet another add-on,CYVR, so fingers crossed as I do not know what to expect there. A completely working FSDT airport, or mere grass to land on!! Should be either plain-sailing or hilarious, to say the least.

Rick Almeida

In what way did he attack a customer?  He certainly stepped in and defended his position, but I think that's almost a business necessity. Let the facts flow on both sides of the discussion and the customers decide from there.  My only purpose in posting something was to make sure those who HAVEN'T used these products could clearly see that not everyone experiences issues.

The customer is always right. No need to defend anything in a public forum, because it rarely looks professional or nice. Some battles aren't worth taking, but as you say, let people read for themselves and make up their own minds. After working in sales for 15 years I would never say a customer did something wrong. I rather eat humble pie, tell them sorry for the inconvenience and maybe grant them a rebate on their next purchase.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Wouldn't be nice if piracy wasn't a problem, so we wouldn't even need a DRM to begin with ? Sure, but that's not the world we live in.

Umberto, absolutely agree with you, I'm very pro DRM (I'm biased of course since I'm a software engineer for a small company).

As I understand it the eSellerate Fatal FAILURE message is a result of a problem validating a license with the servers?  If this is a correct statement, is this just a one time problem of Activation/Deactivation message or does validation happen every time I start FSX at an FSDT airport?  Knowing what this message really means would go a long way in avoiding unnecessary support tickets and/or posts on FSDT or AVSIM and probably free up your time and avoid these types of posts/threads.

Take this as a suggestion and NOT a complaint, but in my experience I have been able to reduce support overhead (freeing up my time and support time) for my company considerably by implementing strong "failure" recovery and/or exception processing ... be it logging, user friendly error message, timeouts, etc. etc.  I know Mir eluded to your product as being a work in progress and improving, so I'm suggesting that you might consider error recovery options that could reduce your support overhead.

For example, trapping the eSellerate Fatal FAILURE and rather than reporting it directly back to the user, provide a more informative message like "There was a problem communicating with our validation servers, please try again later".  Or if you ping out to a server over whatever port you use and it comes back as a timeout then perhaps something like "You appear to have a Firewall or Antivirus blocking our connection".  I think exception processing would perhaps reduce your level of frustration with end users and I'm certain it would reduce support calls/contact and free you up to do the good stuff ;)  And I would like to stress, your product content (airports, GSX, etc. etc.) is top notch!

I do have a concern that if eSellerate go out of business and/or Virtuali moves on to other pastures (for whatever reason), will all my Virtuali controlled products stop working?  The FSX 3rd party community has seen many vendors come and go.

I do appreciate you coming to AVSIM to answer these questions, try not to get frustrated with everyone (myself included) ... their passion is most likely driven by the high quality of actual content under Virtuali control.

Rob.

The customer isn't always right, and sometimes the hardest thing to do in business is to help a customer understand that, in order to ultimately get them to the best solution.  That's the difference between being customer focused (a very good thing) and customer driven (a much easier thing, but often ultimately disastrous for both the business and the customer).  And yes, I do believe there are times when a business has to publicly defend itself.

Hard to disagree with you there, but don't take "the customer is always right" literally.
