I too am having issues after installing the PMDG777 why is there an addon so intrusive that is messed up other addons...FSDT need to fix this..I am about to uninstall GSX so my FSX work properly and I will tweet so the rest of the world know what they are getting into if the purchase GSX and COUATL products...And yes I realise from reading other forums that FSDT gets very defensive which is totally unnecessary..all we want is our purchases to work ..i have uninstall and reinstall every day since PMDG 777 release COUATL is messing up my system...

when i use the task manager to end the process FSX works...this should not be.

Installing the PMDG T7 should not interfere with FSDT products. Sounds like user error to me. If you have performed an update to GSX, did you reboot your pc afterwards. That is one of the major causes of user error.

Are you using the content of this thread as a mask for your own short comings, and not installing incorrectly ?

You have provided little information why FSDT has become an annoyance for you, but your remark about tweeting the whole world does nothing but bring amusement.

i have uninstall and reinstall every day since PMDG 777 release COUATL is messing up my system...

when i use the task manager to end the process FSX works...this should not be.

From this sentence, if I understanding it correctly, you are saying that before the PMDG 777 release, Couatl  worked normally now, after the PMDG 777 release, it "started" to mess your system ?

Now, assume the opposite situation: which means we released GSX/Couatl this week, and the PMDG 777 was working normally for the past year or so.

What would be your logical conclusion, if your PMDG that worked fine for a year started to fail as soon as you installed GSX ? You would point your finger towards GSX or Couatl, of course.

So why, since you are in the opposite situation, you are still pointing your finger in the same direction ?

Fact you have to kill the Couatl process, doesn't obviously mean Couatl it's the cause, it might very well the fact it's the victim of some kind of problem which, as you said yourself, happened "since the PMDG 777 release"

This doesn't obviously mean I'm saying there's anything "wrong" with the PMDG 777, I have it installed and, of course, works perfectly with GSX without any problems or locks up. But you don't have to take my word for it, have a look at this nice video, which shows the 777 being pushed by GSX

So, that proves GSX and PMDG 777 are surely compatible, and since GSX won't work without Couatl, there are obviously no issues between them.

I will tweet so the rest of the world know what they are getting into if the purchase GSX and COUATL products..

This might end up being a bit embarrassing in the end, considering that GSX is sold in TRIAL version so, anyone can see for himself how's working on his own system BEFORE purchasing it, without having to rely on someone else's opinion.

No, the right thing to do, as discussed many times in this and other threads, is use the FSDT support forum, which is the correct place where you are supposed to report specific problems. THERE, after you report your issue precisely, we can check all your config files and understand what's going on.

First of all, I am just frustrated having spent money on FSDT products, which i believe to be the very best out there, and not be able to use what I purchase. Therefore, no disrespect intended. Secondly, from reading post in all other forum VIRTUALI is under the impression that nothing can be wrong with it program, fair enough, in a perfect world. You take sure great offence when all your customers want is value for their money. You must not forget we are your customers and even if we get frustrated never take it personally its no an attack on you.

The bottomline for me and my personal issue is when Addon Manager is install FSX start up is slow and sluggish while it waits for Couatl to load which now begins to utilise almost 50% of my system resources by the time fsx startup the entire system crash. However, if I end the couatl.exe process the system loads quickly and FSX is now ready for use with the exception of all of my FSDT purchases.

why post in here for  there is  a fsdt  forum to post your  issues,   iam sure  that Umberto  cant  be  searching  everywhere  for  users  issues. And  he  has posted  enough information in here  already, think its  time  for  posting  issues   in the correct  forum where they belong

Here's my problem. Any hints as to a solution? This has happened two or three times in the last week.

Here's my problem. Any hints as to a solution?

It's not an activation error ... but I think Umberto said that "servers" are undergoing maintenance and should be back online Monday 9/16.  I was prompted for an update today, but ignored it and plan to wait until tomorrow.

It doesn't appear to be a security context type error (UAC related) but you can search back in this thread and try my Run As Administrator options and see if that helps.

Rob

EDIT: Surely you understand error speak, don't you have a decoder ring ;)   -- this is what I meant when I suggested have "wrapper" code around error exceptions and log current stack to file (makes life easier for Umberto to understand/debug).

That's doesn't have anything to do with activation, registration, couatl or whatever. It seems there might be a problem with permissions running the Couatl_updater.

It also shows it was trying to download and install the gsx_vehicles_update.exe setup, which indicates you are using a VERY OLD installer for GSX because, if it's trying to download that update, your GSX installation comes from a very old installer.

It's either this, or you have must have removed manually some of the GSX vehicles, or moved your FSX install manually, or some of those vehicles that comes with a regular GSX installation might have been lost for some reasons, so the Updater is trying to fix it by downloading the vehicles update executable file.

The Update tries to repair a GSX installation which was very old or has been corrupted by manually removing files or where files has been lost/corrupted for any other reason, including file system corruption, etc., but it can't fix everything.

In this case, the easiest solution is to download and install using the current GSX full installer, which contains every update released so far, so it should correct any outstanding issues with your install.

Obviously, if you read informations from forum where I can't post a solution (since, of course, the correct place to get support is one and only: the FSDT SUPPORT FORUM), you are misled thinking about this, because the information in other places is provided by people that probably never bothered to contact us in the first place because if they had, their problem would have been fixed. By not asking for support on our forum, you are doing their same mistake.

You take sure great offence when all your customers want is value for their money.

What I can't accept, are spreading doubts on our ability and/or willingness to solve issues, which everybody that goes on our forum, can confirm it's exactly the opposite.

People don't always read all threads up their own conclusions: they usually read them partially and, because the correct way to troubleshoot a problem is to exclude all the external ( = caused by other products, or user error ) possible causes first and then, eventually, act on our products because a new bug might be found, one reading just the initial replies without following the thread to the very end, will get the wrong impression that we always put the blame on something else.

But this because the external causes are what caused 99% of the issues so, logic dictates that, if we start asking for questions about those external causes first and exclude them one by one, the issue is way more likely to be found earlier that if we started by suspecting a bug in our programs.

And if threads (on OUR forum, where we have the means to really check things and post the correct questions) ARE being followed to their conclusion, it always turns out this is what is really happening, and IT IS true that 99% of the times, the issues is solved by acting on SOMETHING ELSE.

Those remaining issues, those 1% that we can't eventually trace to an external cause, are fixed with updates.

And there's no need take this as face value: fact speaks for us with the frequency of updates, since Couatl is currently at build 2354, GSX has been updated 3 times in the past two weeks, and has a very long update history:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/couatl_liveupdate_notes.html

And the Addon Manager was updated TWO DAYS ago, following a request of an USER that asked for the ability to turn off Ground Vehicles in our sceneries without having turn turn Scenery Complexity...

As you can see, actual updates are the main proof that, when something reported can't be traced to have been caused by external issues, we DO act and CHANGE our software.

We can't obviously act if something is not reported, or if the user reports it and disappear after we suggest some solution (leaving other users with the wrong impression the problem wasn't solved, when maybe it was but the user didn't bother to report success back, or it wasn't, but we might never know it) and we can't do much if people keep trying to discuss of their problems on the wrong places, which is everywhere else, except the FSDT forum. Or, of course, support by email. My post count at FSDT forum todays is at 13789, that should be another indication on the level of support offered there.

Have you ever reported this on the FSDT forum ?

We could check what is really causing the issue, you are assuming the problem is "caused" by Couatl.exe, "just" because quitting it would stop the problem but, hasn't been occured to you that MAYBE Couatl.exe is being affected by another program ? For example, the antivirus might take longer than usual to scan it, that's another reason why we always suggest to turn exclude at least our files (I exclude the WHOLE FSX folder from scanning, so my FSX starts way faster).

Or, that might be a problem with your Scenery Library, something that FSX itself would ignore, but problem nonetheless that you are having without knowing it (maybe there's a scenery that doesn't work, FSX ignores it so you won't see it, but it might confuse GSX if the scenery has a problem of the scenery.cfg file has a syntax error).

It could be anything, and we can check it (we have additional ways to follow up users, such as special debugging versions to try and, when all else fails, direct assistance with Teamviewer), but you must use the two proper support channels, the FSDT forum AND email support.

For the last time, please, please REPORT any issues you have with our products on our forum/email first!

I noticed that Aerosoft has packed the Flightbeam's KSFO. Does it differ in respect to couatl with a downloadable version or is it couatl-free?

With all fairness to Umberto/Virtuali/FSDT, I too had some criticisms to make here in this thread, but having Updated to the latest Couatl & Add-on Manager, and with some aid from Julian(Badfinger), getting the GSX loaders to go to the correct Freighter cargo doors, I posted a query as to why I could not get a loader at the Main Deck Cargo Door in the FSDT Forum, and  this query was politely replied to by Umberto. Query resolved. Q.E.D.

So, credit, where credit deserves to go.

Do you mean Aerosoft has packaged FSDT KSFO.  It just means it is selling the product if that's the case.  The product has the Addon Manager built into the installer.

The Aerosoft boxed version comes with Aerosoft's own bloatware software and COUATL/ADD on Manager. I believe you can remove the Aerosoft software after you activate your scenery but they are against it and it is not advertised on their forums.

I asked Mir if I was able to use the same product key from my boxed version on the dowloaded version an he told me that it was not possible.

I ended up buying KPDX and KSFO bundled up for a great price.

I too have had problems with this thing as well. My problem is that the terminals disappear and re-appear at random times. They have tried to help me at the fsdt forums and I have tried everything that they suggested and I still have the problem. I changed antivirus, uninstalled, reinstalled... you know the drill. I would like for them to acknowledge that something is wrong with the products or installer or whatever because many many people have the same problem that I have so it's not just us, the customers. Also, it keeps happening even with the newest releases because I had originally thought it was a problem with just the older scenery but it isn't

Call me crazy but I will continue to buy their scenery because they are stunning.
