Orbx Announces FTX Global VECTOR and Iceland Free Demo

Featured Replies

Very good news for me B)  Been waiting for something like this after FTX Global got released, now we finally get better vector data for areas outside the UTX coverage, like Asia, South America and Africa. My wishes come true

yes, asia comes to life!

The full package comes to somewhere around $270?

world

land class

vector

Not really that expensive for a life time hobby and it is ORBX so continues upgrades as well

would vector work with GEX? as a substitute for UTX

ZORAN

Now that is a good question . Maybe you could try asking at the Orbx forum and I'm sure they will give you an answer.

I just did  :P

but GEX is GONE

Are they making a payware proprietary product with the work made by OpenStreetMap contributors ??? Did they use code from free software like Osmconvert, Osmfilter, XPOSM or OSM2XP to build a payware proprietary installer for FSX ???

Then, if you want to appreciate your downloaded vectors, make sure nothing is missing or wrong in your local area and start contributing to OpenStreetMap because this is very different from previous Orbx products: it's a collaborative project !

Happy mapping !

Why does one need OpenLC?  Is it primarily purported to be more current & valid LC representation than is in default FSX?

Why does one need OpenLC?

Because the default landclass sucks.

Looks like a superb product to me. FTX Global is the product I've been craving since running FSX for the first time in October 2006. Now we can have better textures and more accurate vector data in the sim, and it covers the entire world!

It can in no way compete with dedicated photoscenery or full ORBX regions in terms of accuracy, but for some of us that doesn't matter. We just want a more plausible world with as few addons and moduels installed as possible. Great for flying tubeliners since there is very little fps impact by this stype of scenery.

Best of all, ORBX has full Prepar3D support for all their products!

Because the default landclass sucks.

Somewhat improved in Prepar3D though.

Will it fix the elevation disconnect between correct airport elevation and surrounding land?  I have the FS Genesis Mesh and it had a fix for North American but not much else.

Good question. Since PILOT'S is involved I suspect it will only correct it if you have PILOT'S mesh installed.

I'm willing to have a look at it.  Judging from screenshots, road textures are a bit better than UTX, and the roads seem to conform to the terrain a little more smoothly as well.  But I'll wait for more detail and most likely some user reports before I decide to jump in.

Don't think there is a change of textures, it's just vectors.

ORBX just owned FSX

Again?

As mentioned above the advantage of this over UTX is it will be designed to work with existing/future ORBX products, it covers a wider area and it can be used in P3D. A big plus is not worrying about compatibilty between different products.

As I've mentioned before Flight1's anti-P3D stance has cost them any future purchases from me.

I'll give it another month or so then when I have time I will bring myself upto date with the latest offerings from ORBX removing GEX and UTX permanently in the process.

Now they just need to work on a Global Airport addon.......

I'm interested in the Iceland demo. Always fancied EGLL to BIKF ever since I watched the 747 DVD with Captain Alan Carter where they flew over Iceland on way to KSFO.

Future enhancements in the form of free patches may include ports, docks, graveyards, golf courses, forests and ocean beaches.

Now my simming experience is finally complete - I have virtual graveyards...

I have UTX for USA and been thinking about getting UTX for Canada and Alaska, but I think this announcement just made the decision for me.

Remeber that Ultimate Alaska is a bit different from the rest of the UTX series! I'm not sure how well it will play alongside FTX Global.

I have used it in the past since there is no ORBX region for Northern Alaska. It had some very nice features in terms of how it doesn't use landclass for populated areas, instead it places autogen houses along roads. Many of the villages looked quite good, although some important ones were missing. I did not like most of the landscape textures that was used. ORBX textures looks more realistic to me.

Well, you gotta have some place to bury your victims when you crash your plane.

Hey you need to have somewhere to visit your virtual alter-ego's that were in all the planes you crashed when learning to fly :P.

On a more serious note, graveyards and golf courses can be important landmarks.

No golf courses currently?  UTX NA has them so nope not installing this until golf courses are back!
