September 22, 201312 yr Having recently moved from FS9 to FSX I am not burdened down with a lot of older, addon payware aircraft that are outdated when compared with the current offernings from Milviz, A2A, RealAir and PMDG. I now have a fleet that includes the Milviz B55 Baron and Cessna 310, the PMDG J41, the Aerosoft Extended Twotter. All excellent. I am not interested in large aircraft, so am now waiting for the Milviz KingAir, the updated RealAir Duke and perhaps the Razbam Metroliner. But I have become impatient for these new models, and started reviewing older but recent FSX aircraft. Decided to take a chance on the Aerosoft DA Piper Cheyenne. Must say am not disappointed. Its VC graphics, though very good, are not quite up to recent standards, but otherwise it's got just about all you could want: detailed VC, extensive systems functionality, detailed documentation. And it looks pretty good from the exterior view, if you are in to that sort of thing. I would highly recommend this craft to anyone who likes GA turbo twins - who knows how long we will have to wait for Milviz and RealAir? September 22, 201312 yr Yes had cheyenne for ages, pretty good turboprop for its age, had one of the best VCS for its day.
September 22, 201312 yr Oh wow, now you took me down memory lane. One of, if not THE first addon aircraft I bought. Flew it for years and still consider it one of the best overall. Did my first AP approach and ILS landing in it.. man I'm getting all sentimental over a virtual aircraft! i9 9900k - 32 gb RAM @ 3200mhz - 2070 RTX 8gb
September 22, 201312 yr Great aircraft that doesn't get talked about much anymore. Isn't DA working on a new plane? :unknw: Matt Wilson
September 22, 201312 yr Still running her at times. True, some modern graphics would surely help but the systems, even the sounds, are still very good. I'd even go as far as saying that the engine model beats some later releases while all of them seem to suffer from their FSX basis more or less. / sent from a mobile thingy /
September 22, 201312 yr Looks like a nice airplane. How's it compare to the Duke? I read some reviews that it uses non-standard controls so it's tougher to use with hardware. September 23, 201312 yr Their long awaited CRJ700/900 just went in to beta Regards Nice. I wonder if they can simulate the ridiculously cramped interior into the sim? The CRJ is one sexy plane but man I hate riding in one. Matt Wilson

For what it's worth - I bought the Cheyenne after I got the duke and didn't find it lacking despite its vintage. As much as I liked the duke, I think I ended up flying the Cheyenne more. I don't know what it is - but that Cheyenne has something special. I would highly recommend getting the plane - one of the gems of FSX.
September 23, 201312 yr Author I read some reviews that it uses non-standard controls so it's tougher to use with hardware. I have Saitek yoke/dual throttles and pedals. Everything works with the hardware - black levers linked to torque, blue levers linked to propeller pitch. The right hand (red) levers are not linked to the fuel control - I just mouse on them and set the fuel to the proper level, when I get to the right point on the checklist. Not generally a major drawback, since on most flights you only set the fuel at engine start and then at cutoff at the end of the flight. Not that much differerent than with the PMDG J41. That's good to hear. I wonder if it works with the VRInsight MCP Combo. The Dukes have a specific Linda profile. If it uses standard FSX commands it would work. Looks like a beautiful VC and I loved the engine sounds in the youtube vids I saw. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane.
