September 26, 201312 yr I think I should clarify. The Trimble CTD only happened when trying to edit a flight plan or working on the procedures and their waypoints. At some point, the gauge just gave up on me. That's from some years ago, so maybe I'll try again to rule out that I just saw the menu related CTDs in FSX which could be cured with the uiautomation file. I don't know if I ran it back then. Well, now I have the RXP which of course comes with the downside of older data (as the Trimble runs via Navigraph, so you can keep it current) but also offers vertical guidance. I've also replaced the original weather radar and added the CS. So I'm flying a bit of a mixed setup which still is very good and enjoyable. When it comes to the character, the very cramped cockpit actually makes it better for me. For example, I see the more open Duke cockpit as a downside, atmospherically. ^_^ Guess that's why I also like the Carenado JetProp, it's not very roomy up-front. Surely not perfect VFR planes, eh? The Orbx Lancair also 'suffers' from this character trait. I like it!
September 26, 201312 yr Thanks LeeL, I copied the 4 aircraft files from fs9 aircraft folder to fsx simobjects/aircraft folder, Copied Digital Aviation file from fs9 exe to fsx exe Copied all files with PA ref from fs9 effects to fsx effects Copied all files with PA ref from fs9 gauges to fsx gauges. could not find any other folders with PA ref in them I then started up fsx, checked that all the versions/variants were in the options list of available aircraft. Then I chose one of them and told fsx to Fly Now. FSX ran through the procedure of asking me to accept the software from the gauge/sounds etc and I said yes to them all and it started to load the aircraft and then stopped and up came the message Microsoft Flight Simulator has a problem and the program must close. I tried it once more with a different variant of the PA-31 and got the same result. It did not ask me to ok the gauges/sound the second time so it must have accepted them into the system. Thanks ou toppie
September 26, 201312 yr The only thing stopping me from using the Trimble GPS were those occasional CTDs it caused. There also was a problem with adding STARs but one could work around it. Other than that, I think the unique gauge (they could have used a default GPS instead) just shows how much care the devs took in trying to develop a detailed plane. By this, it still gets flown and I can't say the same for much more recent ones. Yes, I had the exact same situation. The Trimble unit crashed almost every time I tried adding a STAR. I searched the internet far and wide for a fix and saw other users having the same issue, but no solution. Chris Chris Bremmer
September 26, 201312 yr Yeah, a shame, especially after I've gotten used to navigating that single line display. But maybe I'll try again.
September 26, 201312 yr Hi gents, If memory serves my correctly, I had a problem long ago when trying to use the FS9 version in FSX. I ended up purchasing the FSX version and the problem was solved. It's been so long, however I believe the FS9 version is not compatible in FSX like some other products are. I remember getting it through simmarket and using the FS9 version purchase info to get a discount as that's where I got the FS9 version from. Hope this helps. Best, Jeff
September 26, 201312 yr Author The cramped cockpit that some have mentioned I have discovered has one big advantage for a simulation flyer, and that is that in the VC everything you need to see is right in front of you, even if you don't have TrackIR. The more I fly this plane the more impressed I am. For example, the sounds; after you turn on the the battery, and then when you turn on the invertor and the HSI and ADI start to come to life, and when the engins spool up. Since I bought this plane earlier this week, it's the only one I have flown. My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel Sims: MSFS2020 Preferred Aircraft Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049
September 26, 201312 yr Here's a really nice video of it... Wish I knew if it would work with the VRInsight hardware I own. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
September 26, 201312 yr Thanks LeeL,I copied the 4 aircraft files from fs9 aircraft folder to fsx simobjects/aircraft folder,Copied Digital Aviation file from fs9 exe to fsx exe Copied all files with PA ref from fs9 effects to fsx effectsCopied all files with PA ref from fs9 gauges to fsx gauges.could not find any other folders with PA ref in them Did you copy all the files required from the FSX sound, texture, gauges and modules folder? That is required cheers
September 27, 201312 yr You know what I enjoyed about that video? The smoothness! Some people believe that a small plane is always moving about it's different axis, and that us pilots are always making small corrections to compensate. That's the wrong assumption. As a GA pilot (the full size), I've flown many flights, in which the ground appears to move by, just as smoothly as in the video. Depending on conditions and time of day, the flight may evolve to more tubulent conditions. But in the meantime, it's just pure smooth. Usually smoother than other forms of ground transportation. My wife has often stated that we seem to be standing still. In reality, the ground is passing by, at about 200 mph.
September 27, 201312 yr Thanks for reminding me of this bird. I gotta pull it out of the back hangar now. Cheers Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
September 27, 201312 yr The Cheyenne was maybe even my favorite in the earlier days of FSX, but it went by the wayside when things like the Duke came out. Loved it's cockpit, but thought it's Trimble was a royal pain to work with the mouse. It probably was the most fps-friendly payware aircraft I've ever seen. On the other hand, I really didn't like the feel of it's flight model. Smoothness wasn't the problem, it was the way the airplane felt almost autocoordinated, hardly any response to differential thrust, and a very noticeable point the nose and go sensation. I like the Duke's and Turboprop Duke's characteristics and feel so much better, but I do occasionally miss the more sophisticated, almost airliner-like atmosphere of the Cheyenne's cockpit and it's beefy sounds.
September 30, 201312 yr Hi All, Reading you comments I realized that I have a boxed version of DA Cheyenne. I loved the plane. Since I last flew her I've upgraded my computer and now I use FSX on w7 64 bit. My questions: 1. Is it compatible with W7 64 bit system? 2. There were an offical patch called v 4.0. I downloaded from the DA site a couple of years ago. It was a major upgrade to the boxed version. Is it available somwhere? How could I upgrade my old boxed version? Appreciate your help, Cheers Tamas Kovacsics "Fun and satisfaction both in real world and sim aviation"
October 7, 201312 yr Hi LeeL, I copied the gauges and effects items pertaining to the PA31 from the fs9 gauges and effects folders into the gauges and effects folders for fsx. The sound, textures and modules files are in the aircraft folders which I have copied from the fs9 aircraft folder to the fsx simobjects/airplane folder. I cannot find any other folders in fs9 with references to the DA PA31T. To onduty. My boxed version for fs9 works very well on W764bit. I have been in contact with Aerosoft support and they tell me they will NOT do an exchange disc programme for the PA31T fs9 only version for people like you and me who have bought the fs9 version. Nor will they make it possible for us to buy the fsx download only. So, in effect it means we have to buy the fs9 version AGAIN if we want the fsx version. I am now looking for an alternative twin turboprop for fsx as I consider the Aerosoft attitude to be unacceptably inflexible. The official v4.0 patch is still available for the fs9 version on the Aerosoft web site. Just go to their site, register your copy of the boxed version and then they will let you download the patch. Cheers ou toppie
October 7, 201312 yr ou toppie can you help me understanding the issue? I've bought a FSX version back then. Must really be from some years ago. But it was a FSX version and not the FS9 one with a patch applied. Or do I mix things up now?
