All quiet on the Avsim front(page), X-Plane releases not worth mentioning?

Recommended Posts

It's only a pet peeve because so many of the threads end up with the same arguments, made by the same people. Obviously, I'd be more 'hands off' as mod. Then I can enjoy the battles whist staying neutral. Lol.

I pride myself on being impartial when it comes to sims, that's why I don't do comparison threads. But a mod should never lead the discussion, just keep it 'nice' so no one says anything upsetting to another.

Now I return to my crypt for recuperation so I may walk amongst the living tomorrow.

Thanks for clarifying that one Jess.

How about it Tom, could we have Jess as a mod for this forum?

If the X-Plane Developers submit news then its posted, these habits take time and inclination to develop and we encourage their submission , the problem is the number of submissions about these releases is fairly limited, not only by the scale of production but by habit, companies who develop aircraft and scenery for both platforms do send release info , often those who produce only for XP dont.

Then the question is, why do publishers send their news to all the other websites and not to AVSIM ?

Aerosoft, FlightSim, SimFlight, Key.aero, PCFlightsimnews, etc... they all received the press release about the Saab.

The same happens with the awesome new version of the Carenado C208 (and this is not the same publisher). It's announced everywhere since a few days. I didn't see it on the AVSIM front page.

Good question.

Obviously the XA admin didn't like his stay here at Avsim... So he decided to not issue a press release here.

Or maybe he simply forgot?

Gentlemen

Nothing was forgotten and there are no issues between Cameron and AVSIM.

Once we get through some of the support tickets people have submitted (it is a study level add on after all...and people will have difficulties flying it), then press releases will start happening.

Good news, Goran. And let me be absolutely clear about one thing, no assumption on my behalf about a conspiracy of any sort.

No problems, Torfi

I respect the way AVSIM is run and I don't expect Tom Allensworth to change the rules after doing the same thing for many years.

Just treat AVSIM like Tom's house.  Respect the house, the rules and his way of living in it and everything will be fine.

Happy Flying!

Just to correct myself, Cameron is the publisher and not the author. And, he knows how to get news published on AVSIM.

Indeed I do, and I've never once had an issue with it. You all are very prompt each and every time.

Then the question is, why do publishers send their news to all the other websites and not to AVSIM ?

Over the last year a lot of these guys have become WAY more proactive in digging for news instead of news coming to them, especially with X-Plane. I can assure you that I did not target any of those and they did it on their own will. We usually iron out issues first before hitting those venues, but some of them are also on the newsletter list. I'm actually surprised Flightsim.com posted anything without formal submittal. Things seem to be changing there.

Re Cameron sending news, there are times personalities get in the way of good judgement, perhaps this is one of those cases.

I don't believe I've really ever dealt with you since I usually chat with Robert or Tom (both friends), but in the future it would be great if you wouldn't insinuate these kinds of things. I really enjoy the friendship that Tom Allensworth and I have. Even as a "what if" these are potentially damaging words.

Rest assured, Avsim is doing as they always have (and how I'd prefer them to be). There's no bad blood anywhere here, and as we always do, we'll submit the news when we're ready for the extra influx. It's been a long last few weeks leading up to release.

I'll volunteer as a moderator for the x plane forum

Jessica, I'd disagree, only because you're not an X-Plane advocate. I say this since I believe you would need to be for credibility's sake. Going through recent forum posts is grotesque! Legitimate X-Plane entries are frequently challenged by the same old detractors, abetted by some born again "other-simulator" faithfuls who apparently have seen the light (non HDR). What on Earth would motivate someone who has been very vocal and supportive of X-Plane in the past, to come out and put them on trial? Having said this, I've also noticed some X-Plane enthusiasts more than willing to stir up a ruckus by starting borderline threads.

Anyways, whoever Avsim appoints as the X-Plane moderator will need to have a thick skin for sure and no doubt have X-Plane tattooed on their chest (or elsewhere).

Well. I'd have to disagree with almost all you said, and for several reasons.

Firstly, to say I'm not an XPX advocate is odd. I have Avsim's only X Plane blog, I use XPX at least once a week and at the last flight sim show PC pilot exhibited at, I spent two solid days explaining, demonstrating and showing off XPX to over 1500 people. Its fair to say I'm not a single sim advocate.

As for the the job of a moderator, I think you misunderstand that to. The best moderators should be impartial. That last thing you need is someone whose position is one sided. That's a sure fire way to stifle legitimate debate. Now looking at your own language in the out above, its incendiary, likely to draw attention from those who do agree with your point of view and there's no real need for it. Just because it's posted in the x plane forum doesn't make it 'ok'. Yo could make your point without such 'passionate' language.

As for 'as you put it' posts from the 'same old detractors'. To be fair, whilst I know who your talking about, of late posts here have been well mannered and quite interesting. No one's shouted at anyone, no posts have been reported or deleted and to date, no 'risk of closure' notices have been added to any threads. Instead we've had good discussions regarding torque amongst other things, with good data coming out and a good sense of decorum.

As for the moderator themselves, well my volunteering was mostly made in jest to try and lighten the mood of the thread. But I disagree that the x plane mod should be a full on XPX supporter, and I've mentioned my reasons for this above. Impartiality and a light touch is far more important than a steel boot and a fixed position. A moderators job is to allow free discussion but keep it clean, not take a side steer the discussion in one direction. But if a mod is as impartial as I suggest, then one thing I agree with is that that'll need a thick skin.

Best wishes,

Jess B

Just imagine me as a moderator

I can't  even moderate myself - it's terrible!  Last night I had an argument with myself regarding the FF 777. For one I was beeing troll and saying bad things about it, while at the same time the aircraft is a nice add-on... How can I be so stupid, and, at the same time, so honest on my oppinions, I said to myself.

Thanksfully our imaginary simmer friend found the way to calm our temper, and we wen't to bed (there are actually 3 beds, because my wife refuses to share it with them... ) dreaming about a sim platform allowing for both FSX and X-Plane to merge, and with future plans to incorporate DCS and ELITE as well, all in 64 bit, with nights like in X-Plane, days like in FSX with the best add-ons, AI like in ...
