October 22, 201312 yr It's likely because we're so use to having to constantly tweak FSX for every percentage point we can get. With FSX a tweak that increases performance by 6% is pretty significant for most. I'll admit that this is a mindset that I'm having a hard time getting past. Personally . . . I'll be thrilled if Prepar3d preforms anywhere near as well as MS Flight. The funny thing is, I suspect all the tweaking and "chasing your tail" that goes on with FSX has actually prolonged it's life. If FSX ran great out of the gates, no upgrades to hardware were needed every year, and there wasn't always a "what if" moment around the corner in regards to performance then people would of gotten bored with it by now. Instead the white whale keeps swimming and we keep hunting it.

This is perhaps true for many here, but i suspect that most users (including me) would MUCH rather just be able to run a flightsim (at acceptable FPS and settings) without having to constantly tweak the darn thing. The main reason for FSX's longevity is that it is still the best thing we have (with the largest 3rd party support) . . . but FSX's reign may be about to end. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
October 22, 201312 yr Moderator Nonsense! Not me! More nonsense! -_- I'd say the glass is overflowing, dripping down your elbow, catching the thigh by running into your midrift, making you look like you were day dreaming a pleasant thought a minute or so too long, but running the other way too, rounding down 45 degrees on your knees, falling down your calf and filling your shoes! We never dreamed of having it this good! Kind regards, Well. Stephen - *some* of us are more understated than others! Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 22, 201312 yr On the contrary, I've been around a long time and, if memory serves, the months leading up to a new FS release were usually joyful exuberant celebrations as high expectations fed off of already high expectations that everyone's pet issues with the previous sim would be addressed. When the product arrived, this was almost always followed by a crash of disappointment, poorly tested software tweaks, arguments, and other nastiness when these expectations were not completely met (or if they were... at a high performance price). I think the community has learned some lessons from the past and the guarded enthusiasm for P3D is a good thing. Personally, I'm keeping the glass "half-empty" in the hopes that I can make it at least half-full after release day  .

I don't think I ever said anyone preferred FSX to be a tweak-fest. That'd be silly. I'm just saying subconsciously, it's kept a lot of people chasing what's over the rainbow because it's such a tweak-fest.

November 6, 201312 yr Sound advice Blackrat ... I for one intend to soldier on with 1.4 until all the dust has settled ...
November 6, 201312 yr Am I the only one keeping my high expectations for this? I mean, in the past, most people got their expectations stomped on because Microsoft kept releasing a flawed product that was under-tested and poorly developed, but we should keep in mind that P3D is NOT a Microsoft product. It is by a government-contracted company which specializes in aviation and aerospace technology. Not to mention their target market isn't consumers, it's professionals, and that market is far less forgiving when it comes to software such as this. Remember, they are selling this for a lot of money to a lot of different people, all of whom expect it work and to work (very) well, so LM has to raise the bar, whereas Microsoft could release any old crap and be no worse off. LM has more invested in this, so I think this time it's safe to assume that they'll release a superior product. Maybe not in terms of graphics, which for us average Joe's is a shame, but this is supposed to be a training aid, not a game, so even if it doesn't look as nice, at least it'll be more reliable than MSFS was... ...But to cover my behind, I'll add that we'll have to wait and see.
