October 8, 201312 yr Thanks to AirDailyX I see Lockheed Martin has released some preliminary data on Version 2 of Prepar3D. To summarise DX11 is supported and finally modern graphics, and cards, are supported as are multithreads/cores. http://www.prepar3d.com/news/2013/10/4507/ I guess this is what us FS9's have been really waiting for. Check it out.

October 8, 201312 yr Author Say What? ???????????????????????? Heh, Heh. Well instead of FSX and X Plane I should have said.

Check it out. How is the release of new features by LM, "thanks to AirDailyX" ? If it's anything like the completely incorrect reporting that AirDailyX did, that the Aerosoft Thessaloniki project was suspended, (when the developer was actually working 50+ hours per week to get it completed), I doubt it........
October 8, 201312 yr Heh, Heh. Well instead of FSX and X Plane I should have said. As a FS9er, I'm not really going to migrate to anything else. I'm old enough now to be satisfied with what I have. Well, age and the wallet too! Actually, I recently retired and moved from Dallas, TX to Blairsville, GA - a small town in the mountains of NE Georgia. I went without my computer and flightsim for a couple of weeks or so. Guess what? I really didn't miss it. I found out that there was actually life out there without it. When I finally got everything set back up and returned to simming, I found it to be practically "new" to me again. I (and my new neighbors) were fascinated with what I already had. Since I'm not seeking for the "holy grail" of FS9 anymore, I can actually ignore those that post and then attack anyone with a differing viewpoint or who don't totally agree with them. It doesn't matter. There's actually a life out there without them. Here's to retirement and realizing flight simming is just a hobby, not a life. gwillmot
October 8, 201312 yr One of the joys of being a Grumpy Old Man, is that each week starts with a new slate, as you can't remember much about last week! I guess this is what us FS9's have been really waiting for. For sure I wasn't about to abandon my favoured sim for something that couldn't take advantage of the latest tech in the hugely expensive computer I'd be forced to buy for it!(I'm so smug about sticking with FS9 and having saved 2 generations of computer upgrades) We'll see how it shakes out, it certainly looks very promising. But the thought of doing this all over again from scratch... :(
October 8, 201312 yr realizing flight simming is just a hobby, not a life. Amen, Amen. Happy retirement! Regards, Joe Esposito
October 8, 201312 yr I will get it for VFR (and whatever tubes may be available for it) and DX11 effects. It won't replace my FS9 or FSX (no PMDG for P3D V2 and limited 3rd party support compared to FSX). I think it would be pretty neat to have all 3 sims. All three will give us something unique. Those screen shots look fantastic. There seems to be a subtle but very nice looking bloom. Water, volumetric clouds and shadows looks awesome. Definitely something to look forward to. Nature Boy
October 8, 201312 yr Do you think that V2 will still be sold only for learning and practicing real world flying, or how will you eventually prove that? Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
October 8, 201312 yr I don't think the EULA has changed. So it should be no different than the current P3D, unless I missed something. Nature Boy
October 8, 201312 yr Something just occurred to me about P3d in general. Even though LM may be targeting the training sector as its prime market, doesn't LM benefit greatly be selling copies of P3d to a wider audience? The flight sim community is quite a diverse and finicky lot. If a product is good, people will shout its praises. If a product has flaws, people will point them out. This only makes for a better overall product.
October 9, 201312 yr I don't think the EULA has changed. So it should be no different than the current P3D, unless I missed something. So I don't even think about changing over. I wonder if all P3D users are in fact pilots or learn to fly. By the way, it's imho not a question of age if someone wants/doesn't want to change. But this But the thought of doing this all over again from scratch... is really a reason. Regards Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
October 9, 201312 yr Author is really a reason. I agree Harald. BUT having recently upgraded my computer with a view to running XPlane/FSX the ability to now really run P3D under DX11 with the A2A Cub and Cessna 172R - real flying, low and slow, with FSGRW weather - would be close to the ultimate, wouldn't it? Keep beloved FS9 for airliners/airports/scenery etc but P3D running ORBX' PNW and related airports plus the A2A aircraft really would be "as real as it gets." Ummmm !
October 9, 201312 yr Anybody could explain the difference licences of P3D? I understand if you are a commercial developer you have to pay 9,95 per month. Also, seems that if you are student pilot you pay 49,95. About the rest the price is 199,99 which seems too much priced...
October 9, 201312 yr I cannot believe that guys still do not or cannot understand the licences!!! SOOO much has been written & posted about it on possibly every FS forum. Basically, if you want to fly... buy the academic version. If you want to play games, dont!!! That's it in a nutshell. More time & energy has been written about this than time spent actually 'flying' the simulator. Guys, get a life, it's only a flipping hobby (& game.) & no... Homeland defence will not come knocking on your door if you buy P3D! You statesiders are so paranoid about this lot. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
