October 29, 201312 yr Maybe it has something to do with Windows 8? I tried your suggestion creating a .bat file, but it doesn't seem this Aero Re-start works in Windows 8 I think it has something to do with nvidiainspector settings. I have the same problem, but if I ommit nvidiainspector settings it works. I tested it by making a copy of prepar3d.exe (or fsx.exe) as prepar3d2.exe and copying the prepar3d.cfg to prepar3d2.cfg in appdata/roaming/lockheed martin/prepar3d. When I go in fullscreen mode in this way (and therefore without a nvidiainspector profile) the shadowplay icon shows up fine.
October 29, 201312 yr If that's the case, we have to find out how to fix it, because Nvidia Inspector is a must for every FS user. Thx for your find. Alexis Mefano
October 29, 201312 yr I tried Nvidia's shadowplay yesterday, too. But I couldn't get it to work properly. I tried the manual mode, started fsx, used alt+F9 and it showed the green dot. I did my flight and at the end I used alt+F9 again. It showed the store arrow so I quit FSX. So I checked the Folder where the video should be stored at. I had a couple of files in it. Some were under 10 seconds long, one was 6 minutes but it wasn't constantly at all. But it showed the record dot the whole time! I don't have WIN AERO enabled, run FSX in full screen and DX9 mode. I really hope it has something to do with the beta status. I would be interested how the ones where it works well did set this up. Regards Tobias Beck
October 29, 201312 yr Did some experimenting and researching. Worked fine with Nvidia Inspector, DX10 preview and Full Screen mode. Did not work in DX9 nor window mode. Found out by searching the internet ShadowPlay does not work with Nvidia Notebook GPUs, and it only works in full screen mode. Reference my earlier post about Farming Simulator 2013 (FS2013), ShadowPlay does not work with OpenGL based games, it only works with DirectX based games. So, FS2013 must be not be DirectX based. October 29, 201312 yr You might want to change the Alt+F9 to something else if you're running manual mode, because Alt opens/hides the menu in FS. Just go to the preferences under Shadowplay and change the hotkey to something else that's not in use. Did some testing and found that my 1920x1200 looked a bit squashed because it got resized to 1920x1080. So I guess it's best to switch to 1920x1080 resolution if you're normally running resolutions above that. I also tried with/without vsync and locked/unlimited fps and no matter what I used there was a noticable stutter about once every second. However, when I imported the 60fps clip into Premiere Pro and lowered the framerate to 30 and turned on frame blending, the rendered file (using a youtube preset) was really smooth and had no tearing or stutters. I didn't notice any performance impact at all even with the high quality option and the video quality is great! It works fine for me in fullscreen FS9, P3D 1.4 and FSX dx10. Thanks a lot Nvidia!

I wanted to record a takeoff in the NGX just to see how it looked. I pressed Alt+F9 after setting up to start the Manual Recording mode. I then did the takeoff and after about 5 mins in the air I pressed Alt+F9 again to stop manual recording, and then once again to save it. However, when I go to the folder I see multiple videos, the longest only being just over 1 minute even though I was recording for at least 5 minutes, the others were as little as 1 second. It's very strange, I haven't tried saving just the shadow video yet as I wanted to do it manually. Is anyone else having this problem? And is it only a problem with manual recording? I will try other games and see if it's just FSX cuasing issues with saving. Otherwise this is a great thing from Nvidia. Raymond Jones
October 29, 201312 yr I also tried with/without vsync and locked/unlimited fps and no matter what I used there was a noticable stutter about once every second. This was when I played the recordings in VLC player. I read that MPC (media player classic) works better, so I tried and sure thing, there is very little to no stutter in MPC. Also tried uploading a test clip to Youtube but that stuttered horribly. Tried the same clip with Vimeo and worked perfectly, buttery smooth. I've had it with Youtube  I'll edit together something and post an link later.
October 30, 201312 yr As I have never made an FSX video (but considered it heavily) I used Shadow Play today. I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong because I press ALT F9 and sometimes it stops recording by itself. At the end of the flight I had maybe 4 files with one being six minutes long. (1.08 GB on the 6 minute video) So far, in the NGX: Not all of the sounds play (No MKR, no NAV Ident) External view seems to stop the recording Video seems a bit washed out as far as video quality I'll try again and see if I can get it to run. If so I'll post the sample. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
October 30, 201312 yr Author I'd upload to Vimeo too, but not long ago they stated in their terms to not upload gaming videos as "they are not creative". Idiots. Hmm.. btw, yes I also noticed that after recording, I open my video up in bsplayer and it's stuttering.. there's a delay in the sound as a result. I took your advice and tried WMP and yeh, it's working great! There's a good chance re-saving the file via Vegas (using the "Internet Quality 1080p" preset @ 30 fps) will fix this. Will try it out and report back. I didn't experience the problem described above where the recording stops when moving to external view.. maybe you pressed the hot-key accidentally? make sure to change SP mode to Manual ONLY. I also cleared all my fsx mappings so I mapped SP capture to F8 instead of the default "ALT+F9". F9 is already taken by TIR so it only make things unnecessarily complicated. Video quality is rather satisfying.
October 30, 201312 yr So far, in the NGX: Not all of the sounds play (No MKR, no NAV Ident) External view seems to stop the recording Video seems a bit washed out as far as video quality Interesting about external view. This could be the problem I was having where it was outputting multiple seperate videos, as if it had stopped recording, rather than record for the full time until I stopped it manually. I did switch to external view multiple times, and it does seem like whatever was recorded after changing views is missing. Quite strange as the default change view key doesn't pose any conflict with shadowplay's recording hotkeys. I wonder if this is specific to the NGX since nobody else seems to have issues here. In regards to some sounds missing, I know the NGX specifically uses a number of external sounds outside the sim, and ShadowPlay is currently only able to record one input channel, that being in-game. October 30, 201312 yr Author Hmm yes, but if the process is projecting sound through the fsx.exe process it should work. What you're saying is true if indeed, the sound runs on a separate process. I updated my previous post btw. Ahhh yes !! I fixed the playback in bsplayer! If you're using this player, go to video rendering and change to the default entry, which is "internal renderer overlay". Similar option might work in VLC as well. Then, the video will display correctly without any stutters! Before that something seemed wrong because the file opened and supposedly ran @ 120 fps. This fixed it, it's now showing @ 60 fps and and there are no stutters or sound delays! Edit: hmm bsplayer will work correctly but disable Aero, meh. :\ At least the video works perfectly in Vegas.
October 30, 201312 yr Submitting video (first ever) to YouTube @ this link: (Removed due to poor quality) During the recording I turned on MKR and the NAV ID. Nothing. Can not hear it in the play back. I can confirm that switching to external kills the recording in FSX. All in all, for a beta, it's working pretty well. I also found that watching the file looks better, IMO, in Win Media Player than GOM. Edit: It's pretty putrid. Have to find out how to get a higher resolution than 360. If anyone can let me know I'll do a new video. adi518, I'll be looking out for your vid! "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
October 30, 201312 yr Author Your video is still not ready.. I'm uploading one too, will post it tomorrow... meanwhile, I'm searching for a website that's capable of 60fps.
October 30, 201312 yr Author Here's the video I made...one thing I immediately noticed is how YT upload didn't warp the colors like it used to do before.. I guess it's somehow related to the capture quality of SP. Change to 1080p before you watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPlPi2skGs8 Silky smooth...
