No vsync: tearing spoils it all right now

Featured Replies

Not having any v-sync issues here. gtx780 + 331.82 drivers* locked at 40fps/vsync on

Seems to be those with 500 level cards that are having the issues.

Anyone reported this on the P3D boards?

Anyone reported this on the P3D boards?

I have a 780 and having the problem? I've yet to find a true"fullscreen" there is a fullscreen but all it does is blacks out my other monitor and resizes the main monitor. It is still windowed mode. Not sure why they done that. Better use of three or 4 monitors with external hardware and not displaying a VC I reckon but not all of us have or require that capability

I had issues with mouseclicks not working.

The mouse cursor appeared, but was blinking over the clickspots.

To make mouseclickswork I had to disable Win 7 Aero.

I found out, since one of the earlier Eagle Dynaics DCS world versions had the same issue.

So when Aero must on for Vsync to work, but off to make mouseclicks consistent - what to choose then ?

Otherwise I get decent FPS and alot more autogen than with FSX.

Overall I think P3D V2 is a great step in the right direction, though a bit unpolished for this initial release.

There seems to be confusion. Windows has two displays modes - windowed and full-screen.

In windowed mode the Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) manages all the windows on the monitor. In full-screen mode the DWM is disabled and the application can write directly to the monitor.

Lockheed Martin found there were advantages in running Prepar3d V2.0 entirely in windowed mode. What it offers is a window that covers the full area of the monitor with no borders. It looks just like as if it were running in full-screen mode.

Not true.

Its full screen that LOOKS like full screen but as far as the OS is concerned its a window.

I'll tell 'im.  Giving me misinformation. <_<

He told me that the sim is on one monitor, full screen. The second monitor is blacked out and a pop up GPS can be simple dragged across to it. Now to me, that is full screen and if that's how it works then it's all I ask. Whatever Windows wants to call it.

I know that FSX always disables Windows Aero when it is run. Does Prepar3D do the same? This is my crazy guess at the cause of the issue.

It is my understanding that Windows Aero normally applies vsync to Windows and all the application windows. However, because FSX disabled Aero, the only way to get vsync to work in windowed mode with FSX was to manually reanable Aero after FSX had opened.

This was changed in Windows 8 however. There is no longer an "Aero," and from my experience using FSX in Windows 8, vsync functions normally in windowed mode under Windows 8 because it no longer disables the fancy visual theme. Now, take note that (as mgh explained) Prepar3D 2.0 is always running in windowed mode, even if it looks full screen.

Some are reporting vsync works fine in P3D 2.0, while others are saying it is a no go... Perhaps those whose vsync does not work are running Windows 7? Someone speculated that only people with certain GPUs had no vsync, but maybe it is OS based instead. If your vsync isnt working and you have it enabled inside of P3D, make sure Windows Aero is enabled.

Just my speculation!

I have Win 7; you better believe that I'll be trying out enabling Aero right promptly, as I do have it disabled.

That, I can most definitely not do.  I am unable to drag a 2d popup to either of my other two monitors while P3D is 'full screen'.

My issue thus far with the mouseclicks has been with Aero disabled.

Back, with happy news:  Enabling Aero on my Win 7 desktop did indeed restore vsync!  In fact, I do believe it also improved performance - I was able to hold a steady locked 30fps while touring around the default starting area in the F-22, with autogen 1 notch from full right, and LOD set to high, shadows in cockpit only.  Also, I noticed that menus and popup screens load and draw much smoother while Aero is enabled.

However, the mouse bug that I reported before - it was instantly present.  It's strange though, not the same at all as the similar no-click mouse bug present in various recent FSX addons; the cursor still changes when over a switch, but when you click, the cursor blinks and doesn't affect the switch.  Even stranger, in the F-22, the mfd buttons and all toggle switches will show this behavior and not work, but the row of buttons right under the hud still work!  Pressing ALT+ENTER to take me back to a normal windowed mode restores all mouse functionality, but pressing ALT+ENTER to take me back to 'full screen' again causes it.

Two steps forward, one back. ^_^

When we get all these teething pains licked, it'll be quite the thing.  I am amazed at the combination of massive autogen and yet utter smoothness present.

Maybe some software that you have in your system interferes with the mouse cursor (maybe the one from mouse/keyboard manufacturer). Just a wild guess.

FSX is no different here, if you want to have vsync in windowed mode, you must enable Aero on win7. For some reason, that is a must for all software.

All these issues need to be presented to LM over at their forum with all your hardware specs and series of events leading up to problems...don't moan if you haven't done anything about it, if you have then I respect your actions.

I think people will have to learn again that there is actually an active developer behind this sim. Unlike Microsoft.

I was planning on posting the mouse issue there, but I thought that it might be prudent to update my AMD driver first.  Slightly hesitant, since the one I'm running works very well in FSX.

Seems to fix the mouse issue, haven't had it since.

That said, FPS are now lower than they were, by a great deal.  Went from 30 - 40 fps to 20 - 30fps with the same settings. Two steps forward, three steps back!

Set the frames to unlimited, and then spent an hour flying around anyways.  One of the things that this sim has going for it are just how bloody smooth it all is, at least for me it is, as long as I can keep the frame rate over 20 fps.  I've never experienced FSX like that, even when flying with double or triple the framerate.

Then the whople affair is a waste of time for me. I fly, as Ron said, fullscreen with the second monitor black (not showing windows desktop) and this then allows me to drag across my GPS and any other instruments from within FSX.  In the case of the Majestic Q400 this includes the PFD, ND, ATC and the CDU. So are you saying this is not possible?

Yes you can.. Undock (right click on it, choose undock) the new window and drag it on over.. It's simple

Or put whatever else on the secondary monitors. Only minor issue is sometimes the taskbar won't get hidden on one.. No biggie
