Angle of Attack 777 Training

Featured Replies

Angle of Attach Training has been a very good value for my money.  It is much more enjoyable for me than setting and reading a manual and is also much more relevant.  Being able to see the animated illustrations while the narrator explains the procedure or system is a great advantage.

I know many people just enjoy getting all of the information right out of the manuals, and I enjoy reading them also, but AoA gives me a valuable added dimension to the learning that I don't find in the manuals.

You don't go to college by just reading the books.  You need to listen to the lectures, graphic displays and teacher explanations in order to get a full education.

This is what AoA is.  For me, it completes the education.

Everyone surely does not see it that way, because everyone learns differently, but I enjoy it very much and feel that I get a lot out of it.

Chris is a instrument pilot and Nick is a commercial airline pilot, who is rated on the 737NG. I believe there are more airline pilots on the AoA team, at least as consultants.

Although every carrier does things differently, you can be confident that you are getting some pretty high quality information from Angle of Attack.

I think i might be in that boat. Learning for instance how the Hydralics is working from the Manual of the NGX did not do it for me. I have seen the video 3 times from AOA repeating over the years remembering and understanding the concept. Off course the Manual is a great supply and priceless .

Soo ,  i might just spent the AOA video on the 777 as well.

Chris is.  There are a few episodes of his free stuff broadcast while he's flying a plane (Bonanza, I think).

And for what it's worth, being a pilot only means you have a license to fly.  it has little to no bearing on actual knowledge of various planes.  Granted, I'm more inclined to believe someone with a rating than I would believe someone who doesn't fly the thing, but you'd be surprised at how many people just glide through their initial for the plane and forget a bunch of what's not operationally necessary (not that you can blame them - the brain tends to remember that anyway).

Nick Collett has a type rating and is already employed as 1st Officer in an airline.

I paid for the MD-11 and now I have my new computer, I'm being asked to PAY AGAIN to redownload my ALREADY PAID FOR files.

Just want to echo what Kyle has already said: just because they're a pilot, doesn't necessarily mean they know much from a systems point of view. I'm a RW A320 FO and have flown with many Captains who don't even know their own aircraft!

Please don't ask me any atpl questions... refer to the question bank!

haha - thank you!

You won't believe how many responses or PMs I get telling me how insensitive it is for me to assert that pilots don't know anything.  It's not that I think they know nothing, it's that I don't see their license as proof they know everything.  Of course, this being a forum, things must be black and white, right?

I mean, let's be real here...how many people remember more than 75% of their initial training's content once they hit their new plane?  Yet you go to any forum and you have some dude saying "well, my brother's best friend's dad's cousin flew 777s ten years ago, before he moved to the 737 to fly a better line, and he says the [insert relatively obscure system/behavior] is inaccurate!  Because he flew it, it must be true!"

Glad someone sees what I'm talking about!

We spend most of our spare time going through the QRH, learning the PROCEDURES, not in-depth systems knowledge (God help anyone on the bus) - thats what the Engineers are there for!

Yes, the FSX gods have many brothers/sisters/dad's/dad's-in-law/best-friends-grannies that apparently informed them that they know everything... sadly, it is not the case.

I asked my Dad about ETOPS the other day, recently retired 777 capt. I got a blank stare...

IMO, these video learning programs are just a lazy way to learn something. I saw some preview videos at YT and I must say it looks very nice, but nothing more than you can learn from manuals you got for free with the aircraft addon itself.

It works for me. I'm fine with reading, it's just that it takes a while cos I tend to drift away at some parts and I'd have to reread whole paragraphs, or even pages at times.  The videos help me understand faster, and well, if you have the money, and would rather watch a video then read, then by all means go ahead. Nothing wrong with that ^_^

READ THE MANUALS.

Indeed nothing wrong with that. I think it's a lazy way because someone digested everything for you and presented in "more friendly" way, but I don't think it's a bad way as it depends how well program is made. After all, the money can be saved for a next addon if one spend enough effort to read manuals.

Some people make the mistake though, that once they watch the videos that the manuals can be disposed of. I find that using both just makes the information stay in your head longer.

Yep!...That's the idea.  "Lazy" meaning easier. Glad you clarified that.

I have purchased almost everything that Angle of Attack has to offer.  I enjoy their programs very much, yet I also have the Captain's manuals for both the MD-11 and 737NGX, and I'm trying desperately to purchase the Captain's package for the 777.  I also have Captain Mike Ray's book on the 737NG.

For me, having both the Angle of Attack presentation and the manuals (including Cpt. Mike Ray's) is essential to bring full enjoyment to the PMDG simulations.

Hi All,

Just to throw in few thoughts...

I have bought their MD-11, 737NGX Captains package & 777 training (flights only) and IMHO it was money well spent. 737NGX got a lot of nice extra tips and stuff which I can use with the T7 training as well (like setting up ezca, doing walkarounds etc). I made a decision just to buy the flight environment of the T7 training, thats just me.

Anyway, I do feel that the T7 could have few more flights, maybe they are doing that in the background. I understand people are asking more and more for their money, ETOPS and PFPX and stuff, but then again, they are teaching you how to fly and not really how to do all the other stuff.. You can find videos from youtube regarding ETOPS & PFPX planning. There is also some nice PDF documents in relation to the ETOPS as well you can find from the web...

All in all, I can say Im happy what I have learnt with their videos.

Cheers

Perhaps, but why not provide PFPX stuff for the 777 when it was for the 737? They set an expectation with the first product and didn't follow up with the second; and it's arguably far more important for the 777.

Sorry to hear that. They announced it, explained it and you had several weeks to download all the content of the MD 11 program. A great series of lessons by the way.

Update, Chris has now resolved the situation.
