FS 9.95 never looked so good.

I don't have UT. Only the 3d lights with EVO.

I combine both. I use UT with only major roads and also a patch which sets major roads to only highways, freeways and interstates, so I get maximum lights and autogen.

  • Well I am assuming the thread title is a typo! Nobody got beyond here as far as I know! Good idea for a thread, I happened to pop some screens while looking through aircraft for the Best Freeware A

  • What happened to this thread? I am more into moving pics with sound (not music) than stills now but hey let's see some pics.

  • Here's some old screenshots from around last year. Unfortunately, I go through FS phases due to real life commitments and I'm happy to report that I've been actively flying FS9 for the past few weeks

Looks more like UT 3D night lights than default imho....

Just my .02 :)

The 3D lights are from my Evo project  and are embedded in the autogen (i.e. do not displace houses and trees), I was curious about the nighttime ground textures because I haven't been able to find a texturewhich suits me and I have only just started development on Evo night time textures (very tough to get a good look!).

Cheers,

Sascha

IMHO the default or UT night textures are too bright and have too many of those light spots on the ground. It should be much more subtle, and let your autogen lights provide whats needed for night lighting. Also, roads outside of cities shouldn't be lit at all (its only in the Benelux and some larger urban areas) but that's probably not going to be possible considering the limitations of FS2004 texture pool. :)

Sadly you are right there!

What I want to do when I've finished the seasons is make a night lighting set to fit my autogen light placement (roughly at least), I have done a test city set. It looks awesome but is very timeconsuming as I really have to handpaint each texture.

If you have the model file for the lamp posts you placed as autogen on your textures,, you could use an additional texture at the base of this model to imitate the lighting of the lamp on the ground. This way you would not have to draw each and every single light onto the ground.

That is a very good idea, I'll follow up on that! At least for faster systems that should work out.

There is an option in UT you can enable which gives you much darker ground textures so your 3d lights would pop out.

Not enough cockpit shots?

I was leafing through the hangar, and took the Carenado Baron for a spin in the rain.

The reflections and light, together with the rain battering the windows, made for an involving outing

It's a beautifully crafted VC.

Probably best to click through to the 1900px wide upload to see.

EDIT: Umm it's not a Baron, is it... that other Beech, been sitting on my desktop for a while.

Nice VC shot.  I had no idea Carenado included the rain fx on the windows.  I always disable the tint and rarely fly ifr in the rain.  I'm going to check it out with some rainy weather.

Dawn over San Francisco Bay, combination of UT for major roads and Evo.

Evo_2.5_8.jpg

The UT lights are the golden ones e.g. the straight row in front of the bright patch below the airplane. The others are Evo. UT residential roads are disabled. I find that this combination gives the most convincing result, also fewest autogen displaced.

The sun rays are part of my custom sun textures.

Those are good looking lights... but there's NO WAY the water is going to be that blue under those conditions!  :o

My probably last flight with the Bonanza this northern "summer" season, just flying a loop above my home country (Saxony, Ore Mountains).

P.S. No ENB, no SweetFX. I like my sim, though.

Very pretty, Harald.

Since we're talking lights, I do like your last couple, for the lights.
